Rev 11:19 (ESV) 19Then God’s temple in heaven was opened, and the ark of his covenant was seen within his temple. There were flashes of lightning, rumblings,£ peals of thunder, an earthquake, and heavy hail.

What is the signifigance of this?

"And the sanctuary (temple) of God in heaven was opened, and the ark of His covenant was seen in His sanctuary (temple), and there followed lightnings, and voices, and thunders, and an earthquake, and great hail.[Rev. 11:19]-When we see the church again, it will be in the New Jerusalem, and we are told definitely that there is no temple there. Here there is a temple in heaven. The temple which Moses made was made after the pattern in heaven. “And the sanctuary (temple) of God in heaven was opened” means that God is dealing now with Israel.
“Was opened” indicates worship and access to God. All of this points to the nation Israel, for the church has no temple. The measuring of the temple on earth and the opening of the temple in heaven declare the prominence of Israel in this section. The next chapter will substantiate this.
“And the ark of His covenant was seen in His sanctuary (temple)” reminds us that we are dealing with a covenant-making and covenant-keeping God. He is going to keep the covenant He has made with Israel, and He will make a New Covenant with them at this time—that is, the Law will be written in their hearts instead of on cold tablets of stone (see Jer. 31:31–34; Heb. 8:8–13).
“Lightnings, and voices, and thunders, and an earthquake, and great hail” speak of judgment yet to come."

Uhm...... Harrison Ford was never lowered into a pit of asps in Egypt and DIDN'T kill an entire battallion of Nazis with both hands tied behind his back? Ooh! I know! Karen Allen never lived in Napal?!

But seriously, folks. The definition of Apocolyptic literature (according to Dwight Pentecost) is that it is someone writing down a vision as it happened that is also largely eschatalogical in nature. So, if I remember correctly, Revelation 11:19 is just after the blowing of the seventh trumpet. Within a working eschatological timeframe, this would be the beginning of the physical return of Christ. The fanfare has blown, the temple is opened, and Jesus begins his march to the earth.

As for the ark of the Covenant itself, God had Moses build it to (A) carry the physical prescence of God and (B) to symbolize the covenant with Israel. Since the ark of the covenant disappeared sometime before the Roman invasion of Israel in AD70, it is possible that God took it to preserve it as the sign of the eternal covenant with Israel. But it is also possible that God took it to heaven because Jesus is the sign of the New Covenant, and the ark would be used like a ouija board if it was still around on earth somewheres. Just my opinion...

If this would be true the History channel or Discovery would be over like wet blanket.

The Noah's Ark page is interesting reading.

I've heard of this guy... I've also heard people say that it was a total hoax. Question (A) If he found it, why does he have to have an artist make a poor-quality drawing of it instead of, say, taking a picture? Question (B) why does the Knesset say that the ark of the covenant is lost to the pages of history if it was truly found in the 1980's?

there is a lot to read thru before you get to the part where he explains (and shows the 2 photographs) that even tho all the other pics came out fine, his camera worked just fine, and even tho he had plenty of lighting, and a good shot, his camera would not focus when he tried to take a pic of the ark.
Also: when a team of men went into the cave later on, to try and move the ark (true story) all of them were taken to the hospital to be treated for some disease that suddenly came upon them.

I always took this verse to be speaking of Christ and not the physical ark of the covenant containing the commandments.

The seventh trumpet gives us a glimpse of eternity just prior to revealing His faithfulness to the Church in Chapter 12. I believe the glimpse of eternity is concluded with a vision of Christ and His faithfulness before the final (bowl) judgments after which He is coming -- again.

After all, we are speaking of the Revelation of Jesus Christ -- not the revelation of the ark.
