I was watching the Teen Choice Awards last night, and was seeing Mariah Carey singing a song called, "Touch My Body." The lyrics of that song was ungodly, let alone the way she was dressing.

I was thinking, "How these teens consider stars like her role models? They are sure not godly or promote traditional values.


What do you think?

You already know the answer, Gayle. It's because "the world" doesn't look at things through a Christian filter. You've known this for years. It ain't gonna change either, so ya may as well get used to it.

yup...they sure don't!!!! One thing my mom reminds me often though is that you can't expect non-Christians to live like they are Christians.

I let my 13-year-old daughter watch part of the show last night, but made her change the channel when I realized what was REALLY going on! As soon as I saw that Gossip Girl was a major nominee, I could tell this definitely wasn't for teens!

Gossip Girl openly espouses and encourages teen sex, drug use, and drinking, and is suggested for adults only by many parent tv reviewers. How ANY parent could let their kids watch this show is beyond me. But apparently enough do to make it a hit with teens.

Another issue is that R-rated movies like Superbad are nominated, when 99% of the kids in the audience can't even rent the movie from Blockbuster unless an adult gets it for them! It's ridiculous!

I'll tell ya this, I'll be avoiding the show's three major sponsors from now on: JC Penney, Neutrogena, and Dr. Pepper.

I think it's got a lot to do with the fact that most parents just don't care what their kids watch or listen to. If the parents cared more about their kids and were more involved in what they're interested in, they would realize what's going into their heads and put a stop to it.

No, it's not right for Mariah Carey, Gossip Girl, and Superbad to be so popular among teens. But I think the parents are to be blamed more than the Teen Choice Awards itself.

I watched it with my son the other night. We watched it because of the Jonas brothers- don't tell my son's friends that he likes the Jonas brothers [:D]- I was also watching and listening to my son's opinions in most of them and yes...he thinks Mariah should not be there because she's old!!! Most teens (at least the ones I know) think Mariah tries to be one of the younger girls around. In regards with the other things...I looked back during the time that I was a teen and there were a lot of songs that I had no idea what they were but we're singing them. One of them, and I hate to admit it, was Afternoon Delight. I even remember Donna Summers songs and the way she sang them but no grown ups were saying anything then. Even movies- we did not have PG 13. I think, as much as we think our teens are clueless...most of them are more aware than we were when we were teens with the songs, the movies and TV shows. And I agree with Princess it's more with the parents not with the awards. In regards with the role models, most of these teens don't look at them as their role models-- they're teenagers. Did most of us look at our teen idols as role models then (in my case Donny Osmond, Leif Garrett and Shaun Cassidy) I did not, I just thought they were cute [;)]

Yet, many wonder, "why is this generation going to hell?"

It's when movies such as this begin being promoted as something to watch. When the contents of the movie is nothing more than swearing, sex, offensiveness, sex, swearing, sex, swearing, vulgarity, swearing, oh, and more sex.

These are the standards society is promoting that our teenagers live up to. To engage in premarital sex, drunkenness, vulgarity, swearing, etc.

Television is such a vast wasteland, yet I am having to research much in preparation for tomorrow's business meeting. What these kids are listening today is disgusting I cannot stand what is now being marketed to our youth. They take it hook, line, and sinker, and we ask what is wrong with our churches when we go down to this level.

But this is nothing new though. Like I posted before....there were things that I used to listen when I was a teen that was just dumb, it wasn't dumb then to me. Think back in the 50's when Elvis first came out and how most parents thought Elvis was disgusting. Even when Sinatra first came out, my Dad used to tell us that most of the grown ups from his youth, used to tell them 'how can you listen to this kind of music'?
