For this entry I'm going to go through a few famous or influential people I wish would just GO AWAY! Lets set some ground rules: I do not wish any harm on these people, I hope they live happy lives. I merely hope that I never hear from or about them again as they live their happy lives. And really, thats it. well also, its solely my opinion. If you don't agree, don't worry. Its not like anyone listens to me anyway. So here we go. Britney Spears Why do people care about someone of so little talent? And she isn't exactly a beauty queen. Other pop princeses, like Christina Agillera, can at least sing very well. Paris Hilton has no discernable talent (aside from political ads apparently) but she knows she has no talent and sticks to things she knows like reality shows where she only has to be herself. She's fairly decent at that. Britney on the other hand keeps forcing her junk on the public. On a serious note I do wish Britney well in conquering her inner demons and raising her children. And she can do that better without the glare of popularity and fame in her eyes. Ann Coulter I could have selected many political commentators on both sides of the spectrum but no one matches Ann for her lack of cleverness and creativity and her classless hatred of all things not Ann approved. "John Edwards is gay". Ha Ha Ha Ann, you're killing me. And you are apparently wrong about that BTW. And just like clockwork she says something non funny, non clever but very hateful and the news shows all have her on so she can give a ridiculous explanation as to what she meant. The one good thing about Ms. Coulter is that her popularity is a sure sign of how wretched our culture is right now. Maury Povich If you aren't a daytime TV watcher (IOW you have a regular yet non teaching job) you probably haven't had the "pleasure" of watching Povich's parade of paternity tests, she males and general depravity. What this man does is disgusting and he preys on the misery of broken depraved lives, giving them a forum where they can embarass themselves and all of us as we see how low our culture has become. Steve Wilkos deserves a dishonorable mention here for his show of berating child molesters and abusers for ratings (not a problem in and of itself), all the while not giving them a chance to prove their innocence or any semblance of a fair hearing (and that's the bad thing). John Edwards A good looking empty suit who pretends to care about the poor while getting $400 hair cuts. Its not his political positions that annoy me (we are better as a nation if we hear all opinions), its his lack of ability to express those opinions inspirationally, the utter lack of anything original in his positions and his frequent displays of a lack of intergrity, condemning us for our excess while being guilty of the same excesses himself. This adultery scandal is only icing on the cake. I do wish Elizabeth Edwards well, this stress certainly does not help her in her fight against her cancer. Please note that Edwards' "indiscretion" took place while Elizabeth's cancer was in remission. IOW: he's just low, not the lowest of the low. Joel Osteen OK, this one might get me in trouble. Unlike the others, he seems an affable chap. I dislike the others but not him. His wife on the other hand seems to be quite the fireplug judging from this civil suit against her (an airplane incident, you'll find it with a search for Victoria Osteen or in the "current events" forum here, it should be mentioned that by all accounts Joel behaved well during the incident). Anyway, I could have chosen a number of TV preachers (turn on TBN or Daystar right now, chances are you'll be watching a preacher that I'd rather would disappear in a tremendous Word of Faith rapture) but Osteen is a challenge and a different beast. My beef with Osteen is his positive, life success theology. I think preachers need to be harder on their flock, I don't like "feel good Christianity" from the pulpit. I won't say his doctrine is false (don't know enough about the specifics), I just disagree with the emphasis. Look at the last Super Bowl, the two coaches were Tom Coughlin and Bill Belichick. These guys are the opposite of cuddly and affirming, they are two first class jerks to their team. And their teams responded. The church needs a kick in the butt, not a pick me up. Tell you what, I won't wish Osteen goes away, I'll be happy with an occupation switch. He can be a motivational speaker with a Christian twist instead of a preacher, admit he has more in common with Tony Robbins than Billy Graham and I'll be happy. So there you have it. Perhaps I'll add to this as time goes on. Have a great week and see you next time.
