Hey Mike! I can't believe you omitted Michael Jackson's Thriller video. Pure Halloween especially with Vincent Price's narration.

Probably because Thriller and all of Michael Jackson's music is Pop/R&B, not Classic Rock.

I love the sound of the kick in the intro here.

Excellent! I hadn't heard No Time To Loose in many years. 707's I Could Be Good For You is one of my favorites.

Here's a change of pace: a fun song from The Cure--Friday I'm In Love

Bauhaus--Ziggy Stardust. I may actually like this cover better than Bowie's original. The guitar rocks a lot more, at any rate.
Duran Duran--Rio
Human League--Don't You Want Me. I detested this song when it was popular, because I was a musical purist and this had no real instruments. Now I really like it--strange.

Now you're talking Steve, but classic rock though, Duran Duran even?

I lump all that stuff into the classic rock category, but I'm not sure that everyone would agree.

Okie dokie, however I tend to think of classic rock being those artists who were around in the late 60's up 'til the late 70'/early 80's instead.

Yeah, I have to agree. If Duran Duran is Classic Rock, then so is Taco and the Village People. C'mon.

Here's one with no argument that it's classic rock: Scorpions--Big City Nights

quote:

The big difference is that Duran Duran played their own instruments well. Check out the smokin' bass work on Rio. They did get bland a couple of years after that, though.

Roxanne is one of my favorite songs along with Message in a Bottle

Greetings,

Welcome: shemaromans

Thank you! I'm going to be more of a lurker but appreciate the welcome (and the many, many posts and links).

I don't know what classification that music was but I guess that would also include "the Cars" type stuff?

I didn't make it too far into the thread before getting too excited and posting. My contributions strayed from classic because of some of the tunes I saw on the first page and the word "video" in the title. Sticking to classic rock, though, makes this thread much better.

Here are a couple of songs that haunted my youth and made me despair the state of rock and roll in the 70s. Listen at your own risk. You have been warned.

One
Two

That's just very, very wrong...and scary that you remember them! :)

I did like a couple from Duran Duran

Duran Duran rides hand in hand with….these guys here

The Cure-Just Like Heaven

I remember I used to classify that type of music as being played at 78 but the tempo is 33 and a 1/3

Definitely weird …to say the least, but I did like did those

My repressed memory of them came to the surface. There is one other song "The Song That Shall Not Be Named," that my sister still tortures me with to this day. It has caused me Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. One hint--Minnie Ripperton screeched it.

Don't you know that that song makes people go on killing sprees?

Aldo Nova--FantasyLove the guitar solo on this one.
Red Rider--Lunatic FringeCool slide guitar solo.

I could post those in the great guitar solo thread, too.
