Earth shoes? Like these?

Closer to THIS.

Were they comfortable? The heels were lower than the toes, right? I don't think I would like that.

You rephrased it and made me sound smarter.

I can see a small church doing whatever they could so that they could sing together. That makes sense.

However, in the other thread, there is a very large church with a large choir, and the director can't read music, and is fighting with the choir members and musicians. Sounds like a good set up for conflict to me.
Fighting with choir members and musicians is never a good idea because your outnumber!

See what happens when we assume?

BTW: Mrs. Kerrlaw has a masters degree in reading and has never read a textbook.

The only books that I know her to have read are Old Bones the Wonder Horse, Mrs. Mike, and The Thorn Birds.

They were torture.

Remember this started with your question: What was the dumbest thing you have ever bought?

A couple of days of walking the hilly campus at UT and my calves were screaming like banshees - and I was in good shape.

I don't think that I ever wore them again, but strangely, I wish that I still had them.

I would be quite irritated if my music leader was arguing with me about the music I could read but he couldn't.

I'll bet Mrs. Kerrlaw could find you some earth shoes on ebay!

The dumbest thing I've ever spent money on is a piece of exercise equipment when I was in college. I was so excited about it, until it arrived and I saw how horridly cheap it was. I returned it, so at least I wasn't out the money.

Mr. Cranky and I were dating, and he thought it was hilarious.

I think we should all appreciate each other, and be happy to learn from each other.

(Apparently I don't need my own thread--I can just take over Kerrlaw's! Sorry for the multitude of posts. )

Cranky, seeing as how Kerr now has 1.25 threads of his very own, I think that you can balance things out by using this as your very own thread for .25 of the time.

I used to play in church orchestra. We also had a teen orchestra, handbell choirs, string quartet, and several choirs. The idea of a music director that can't read music is beyond belief. How could he / she get any respect, or get any work done?

Sort of like people who play by ear. They can play the melody, IF they have heard the song, but not the second or third parts. They don't know a fermata from the Staff, and their note timing is off. Music is mathmatical. Playing what you "feel" just throws every one else off. Being able to sing on key does not qualify you to be a music director ~~~END OF MUSIC RANT~~~

You guys are cracking me up today.

I like the t-shirts that just have a formata on the front. Only a musician would know it means "hold me."

Or I really like the ones that have a formata over a rest----it means "shut up". Funny.

Question for Kerrlaw and Friends:

Do you think a choir director should know how to read music?

I have no idea how someone can lead something if they don't have a basic understand of what they are leading...

Which of course is the reason that I am the soprano section leader and NOT the movement leader...

Before school started, two or three people told Mrs. Kerrlaw that she would be having a child in her class that was from a Wiccan family.

Turned out the child is from a vegan family.
