Kerr, I just saw on the news about the 85 year old lady from Talbott that just got her GED. She was a determined lady. Wondering if by chance you knew her.

I missed that Santa.

Wonder where she will go to college?

You all ever have dreams you know it is to late in life to fulfill?
Thinking about that reunion has made me feel blue.
I dreamed of one day going to Hollywood, and being the embalmer of the stars.
Too late, I suppose. Now I am the cemeterian of the mediocre.

I don't know which line is funnier...

'embaler of the stars'

or

'cemeterian of the mediocre'

Either way that's the funniest thing I've read all day!

Kerrlaw, You can use it and you don't need to give me credit. The piece of apple pie is inspirational, I guess.

Thanks cranks.

blue is funny. I'm glad she posts here.

My cat Nicky was sleeping beside me here and I noticed that he was gone.

I found him in the other room, lying on the ottoman, intently watching The Biggest Loser.

Question for Kerrlaw and Friends:

Do you think a choir director should know how to read music?

yes. Anyone working in music must know how to read AND TRANSPOSE music.
I can not imagine otherwise.

I've never met one that could. Of course I'm from a little ways south or north or east or west of nowhereville so that may be the reason.

A WELCOME CHANGE OF TOPIC...

Oh Wise Counselor Kerrlaw and friends,

What's the dumbest thing you've ever bought?

Earth shoes.

I almost said Beta video recorders but, at the time, VHS and Beta were neck and neck. And now VHS is almost obsolete.

Earth shoes? Like these?

Seriously? How does a person direct the choir/musicians if they don't know how to read music? I'm just wondering how that would be possible.

I've heard that there are many multi-millionaires in Nashville that might disagree.

Small church with a called choir and they only sing the songs the Choir Director has memorized.
I've seen it in several small churches I've visited.

I guess it would depend on the size of the Church. Most churches I've been involved with have a membership of 300 or less so the choir will usually have 100 or less members and we always just open a book and let er rip. I guess the bigger the choir you might need to be able to read music. Our musicians can but usually our directors don't. I dont know if that makes a difference or not. I really don't know. Oh don't worry about the slobber, I went and got something to eat and I'm all better now.

You rephrased it and made me sound smarter.

I can see a small church doing whatever they could so that they could sing together. That makes sense.

However, in the other thread, there is a very large church with a large choir, and the director can't read music, and is fighting with the choir members and musicians. Sounds like a good set up for conflict to me.
