Hi JimboFletch and Magdaleine,
Glad you visited again. Pity that Jimbo can't remember anything of his outer space adventure.
Unlike me ... I'll remember yesterday for a long long time. And I'll be reminded of it often, I bet.
Yesterday evening my wife said I should take her somewhere expensive for her birthday. So I took her to the gas station ...
And that's how the argument started ... followed by silent treatment.

Joking aside ... the price of gas here in the UK is ridiculous.
Just filled the tank and it cost me £1.21 per litre. I can't work out how much this is in US $ but I know one thing: when I fill up the tank with gas it costs me more than the overall value of the car.

In Canada our gas was up to $1.40/litre. It's gone down to $1.32. The Canadian dollar is about on par with the American but I too don't know the exchange rate with the pound.

or

So I'm paying about $2 a litre or about $7 a US gallon.
Would it be cheaper to fly my car to the US, fill it with gas, then fly it back to the UK?

I knew gas was pricey in Europe. Do you use other forms of transportation when you can? At least in the UK you have more mass transit options and things are much closer to each other. Here in the Canadian prairies things are so far apart that, unless you live in the city centre, it's very hard to get around much without having your own vehicle. It's seven hours to the closest city that's the same size and fourteen hours to the second closest.

Public transport (trains and buses) are not that frequent (especially buses)and can be very expensive. Depending of course on where you are - some cities like Edinburgh in Scotland have very good public transport. Buses every 10 minutes on main routes into Edinburgh centre.
Cost is a problem - a train journey of say 50 miles can cost up to £20 at peak-time i.e. in the morning to get you to work. If you have to commute to work by train it can be very expensive.
I took the bus the other day - it cost £1.45 for a journey of just 1 mile. Of course I could have walked - but I was in a hurry and the bus just happened to arrive as I got to the bus stop.
The car is now more of a necessity rather than a luxury. Especially in country areas where public transport can be poor.
Gas is pricey because of taxation. About 65% of the price we pay is tax.

I visited Edinburgh in the late 70s. Enjoyed the castle and the nearby park. I also spent about a month in Greenock in the fall of 1972 and made a brief visit to Glascow. I remember the Firth of Clyde from the first visit and the Firth of Forth from the second.
I thoroughly loved the country and the people in Scotland. I'd go back often and long if I could afford to do so.

I love Scotland a lot. I try and visit as often as I can. I drove all the way round up to John O'Groats (furthest point North in the UK) some years ago. Visiting small towns and cities like Perth and Dundee, as well as Glasgow and Aberdeen.
Plenty of whisky too. Spent a holiday visiting small distilleries and sampling the different brands. All in the name of research of course!
Last time I was there (April) I visited a kilt and tartan cloth factory. They can make you a kilt the colour (tartan) of your clan if you give them your surname. Or even a tie the tartan colour of your clan.
Which reminds me: aren't women difficult to understand? My wife bought me two ties for my birthday. As we were going out that evening I thought I'd please her and wear one of the ties.
As soon as she saw it she said: What's wrong with the other one?

Thanx for visiting my Blog. I try to add to it from time to time.
Sorry to hear about the problems you had with the photocopier at work (your blog). Don't you just hate it when machines just start thinking for themselves rather than do what you want them to. Like my computer for instance. It tells me off when I've done something wrong.
The other day just as I was logging off it just froze. Neither mouse nor keyboard would react. A frozen screen with nothing reacting to any input device. I was in a hurry, so I just pulled the plug off. I thought - no electricity, that should sort it.
When I switched it on the next day it complained because I had not logged off properly. No apologies for it freezing on me in the first place !!!
Does it rain a lot where you live? Here in the UK we've had a very wet summer. We now have webbed feet and we quack as we waddle down the street.
