I am just finishing having a nice birthday. I worked all day...and had a lot of nice "Happy Birthdays" from co-workers (and a box of chocolates). My family and I then did some grocery shopping at Costco, purchased my favorite take-out Chinese foods, and watched Antiques Roadshow. It was a nice peaceful evening. My family wanted to take me out to dinner, but, it was so much nicer just coming home. Hope everyone else has had nice days!!

Garcy, our kids don't have study hall. That is nice yours do. My Mom and I were talking about that today. Here it's almost as if they push a study halls especially for athletes, band kids and ANY kid that has after school activities. It was stressed over and over at the parent meeting last spring that if a kid one study hall per semeaster, the maximum allowed a school year, they will, with careful planning and scheduling, they will STILL graduate with more then enough credits fro graduation as long as they are making passing grades in those classes. My nephew in Minnesota doesn't get study halls either. Blessings, Garsy

I wish our kids had study hall. We did and we all graduated with enough credits. My kids are so bogged down, and they are only allowed one sport or activity at a time. I don't think that is too much. Plus, I think it is the quality of education rather than the quantity. I mean some schools go by the number of hours you actually attended school. That is how one of my friend's daughters graduated an entire semester early.

In Noah's school, if you play a sport, you have a study hall instead of gym during that season. Noah's new backpack came today. It was nice to see his face light up, especially when he noticed his initials on it. I'm glad we decided to get him that. He's been such a huge help to me and took Brian's accident very hard. The school has told us not to worry about paying them. We'll work out what we can pay and when after we know how much we have coming in and when. It wouldn't surprise me if they tell us not to pay this year, which seems awkward to me, since I'm on the BOE and the tuition committee and both of those decide those things. But I know what they would offer to anyone else in the same situation. I'm just not sure if we should take a free ride, KWIM?

Happy Birthday Julia! That is very cool about your daughter Mbee! Here every student has seminar (what they call study hall) for about 25 minutes each day. You are assigned a teacher as a freshman and stay in that teacher's seminar until you graduate. I wish they had a full block for seminar, but maybe they don't do it that way because of the block scheduling. Donna, I'm glad Noah liked the new backpack! Don't worry about the tuition right now; in a month of two you'll hopefully have a better feel for your finances. I'm sure you would feel fine about someone else in your situation getting a break on tuition. It's midnight here; hubby is not home yet. He did a side job after work today. At 11:30 he called and said they were 30 minutes to an hour from leaving. Power has to be on at this school by morning. I hope he's not too tired tomorrow. Dee

Maybe they figure they are taking care of their own, Donna. Maybe they see this as a way to give back for all you have done serving on the BOE and not even having a child in the school til this past year. EVERYONE in my house is STILL up. There is some big meteor shower happening over night tonight and EVERYONE wanted to see it. I'm tired, I don't think I'm going to make it, but I have to so I can get the gang in bed when it's done! Or I think they've seen enough! Blessings, Garsy

Did they see any? I saw one on the way home from the game and that was at midnight the day before. They PEAK at 2am, but you can see them for several days before and after and all night long, you just have to be more patient. The best shooting star I ever saw was in the late evening. It exploded and we all saw it. I was awfully young and nothing in the sky since has ever compared to that sight. I remember one night we went outside for the December ones. You couldn't count them all. Absolutely beautiful. Poppa and BigBee were outside and I couldn't sleep because of their exclamations so I got a YOUNG DeeDee up and we went out wrapped in blankets and FROZE. Came to find out that the men folk got dressed first, while we ladies were jammied.

I was thinking the other day about how difficult it would be for you this year if you had to take care of yourself, the baby, Brian, your little ones, and homeschool. I know that you can do whatever God gives you the strength to do, but, it is nice that a way has been provided that will help you this year when your energy level is going to be sorely tested. quote:

It was the middle of the night and the next thing we know our neighbor (who pretty well knew that the homeschoolers would be outside) was in our back yard with us. It was a lot of fun.

Yes we did see a few. I made the boys (Ethan and his friend) go to bed shortly after 2, because all they wanted to do is stay up to play video games. They were asleep before I came up with Zoe 15 minutes later. Ty came to bed about 2:45 and Brian and Aryn nearly fell asleep wrapped up in blankets in the backyard! They came in at about 3. I don't know the total they ended up seeing but they were happy I allowed the kids to stay up! Everyone slept in this morning too! I don't think anyone was up before 9 AM. I didn't get up til nearly 10:30! Blessings, Garsy

Hi Everybody! Today was registration for school. I had been wondering when I was going to get Jake's stuff in the mail and even called the district last week, but nothing. Today I called my ex husband because Jake spent the night there and told him that I needed Jake for registration. Apparently, somehow addresses got mixed up or something and all registration papers went to my ex husband's house and they didn't tell me they had them. But then again, they may have thought so did I. So I looked like an idiot trying to get them all filled out and get three million other things done while I was there. Jake needed a new gym uniform, pictures, hot lunch, to get his schedule, and then a very brief look at where his classes are. He didn't get his locker today so we can't bring his stuff til we get it. I can't wait because these backpacks have been sitting in my livingroom full of supplies since we got back from vacation. I also had to register the girls, but they got their forms so I don't understand why Jake didn't get his. All of the kids are linked by phone number so the only way I wouldn't get Jake's things is if his phone number was listed different. But we took care of it and hopefully this mistake will not happen again. AND I am going to keep a close watch on it. Then we got home and a few days ago, we started pulling tile up off of the basement floor. This house was flooded during the rains in early June and the tile just had to go. You know how you start something and you don't want to stop until you are finished? Well, I got there today. I didn't do the entire basement, but I got half done. My hands are all blistered and bruised because I had to pull the tiles up one by one, and if I hold my hands still, they shake, BUT we are ready to prep half of the basement and we are going to use that basement floor paint instead. That way if we ever get flooded again, it won't be so bad. Those tiles were so gross. Ewwww. I hope everybody is having a good day today. We should be hearing about our exchange student by next week. At least I hope so because we are going to have to go buy him a bed.

School starts in less than two weeks. I will have one week to get BigBee ready - clothes wise. Unfortunately, after 14 years, he is barely ready to CARE, clothes-wise. I still have to do DeeDee's pants and she needs to find a dress or two. We won the jersey auction at the game so we need to go back out, or have it shipped. Gas is $16. Shipping is unknown. But, it just so happens that we have an Aeropostale coupon from the game, so if we wait until Saturday and then drive out with DeeDee maybe she will find a shirt she doesn't need. And a dress or two. I am such a mommy-wimp.

One week from today, at this time ALL of my kids will be in school. In fact Ty will half way through his 3rd hour class! Yea! AND . . . I got the phone call to come in for an interview on FRIDAY!!!! Nothing like waiting til the last possible minute but hey! I would have taken whatever time slot the would have given me! 11:10 Friday morning! I am so confident this time around! Ty has Freshmen Orientation tomorrow all day! We drop him off at 8:30 and pick him up at around 2 PM. He should get his revised schedule then. I went through all of Zoe's clothes yesterday and I've already been through Ty's so today it's Aryn's. I'm so thankful that she is pretty much happy with wearing what we can afford to buy her. She did say that this year she wants more jeans. This is a complete change from last year when all she wanted was elastic waist/ yoga style pants! I'll take care of Ethan's mess tomorrow. That kid is SO tough on clothes! I did manage to come up with a second pair of shoes for Zoe too so now we don't have to buy her a pair of gym shoes! Got to run to the store. We need bread!! Blessings, Garsy

Garcy, that is great. Donna, don't feel bad about "taking a free ride" you really aren't. You give your time and you do tithe and donate so you are doing enough to accept a bit of help during this time of need for you. Let them help you. If they didn't want to, they would never have brought it up. You will one day be able to help someone else in some way and would you expect them to say no to your help? Even if it is just cleaning for them because they are ill, or cooking or something like that. You would do it for someone else, so let someone else help you. It is all good. Today has been stressful. Kali had a friend over today and Jake tried so hard to be good and help out, but he also turned into a huge boss and things got out of hand. I am just ready to cry. I just had my mortgage sold. I knew that was going to happen, but I am happy because my new company lets you do payments every other week which is better on the checking account, plus it pays your loan off earlier than your term. In my case, if we only pay what we have to, we will be paid off 7 years earlier and save 60K. But I do plan on making an extra payment a year above that so we can shave it off even more. The downside to that is we have to have our sept payment by the first, then on the 5th of sept, they take out half of our oct payment. So we are going to be extra poor until November. Plus our August pmt hasn't been made yet because our first lender didn't know where to have us send it since she was in the process of selling it and the original bank that was going to take it didn't because we are in a FEMA area and was worried about damage. So anyway this is getting a bit too stressful and I just can't wait til all this stuff catches up. I figure by November, we should be back to normal. Anyway, this is just one of those days I guess. I hope everyone else is doing well.

Ethan and Ty and Ethan's friend N. had a bit of an issue today. It seems that N, lately, seems to only come over to play video games, and it really irks Ty to no end, and Ethan tends to allow things to continue even if he's being taken advantage of. Well it all came to a head today! And N. left taking our game with him supposedly. Well I also came to find out that Ty pushed him out the door after N. argued with Ethan. So I stepped out the door because our games are not suppose to leave our home without my permission and I find out that N. left the game on a chair on our front porch - another big no-no. I yelled down the street for Nick to come back and Ty gave him back his games that he had brought over. Well Nick is complaining now of his arm hurting where Ty pushed him - and apparently is heading home. GREAT I think - Now I'm going to have N. telling his Mom that Ty is a big bully (which he was) but N. and his mom have been known to blow things out of proportion before. So I get back in the house and have a conversation with Ty about the fact that he is getting older and he can run the risk of getting into MAJOR trouble over situations like this. So Ty steps out to talk to N. but N. is on his way home. Ty grabs the phone and calls N.'s mom to explain what happened and to apologize for losing his temper. SO. . . . because of all this - I'm laying out some new rules. #1 - If the game can't be played together it won't be played when friends are around. #2 - During the school year video games are completely off limits Monday through Thursday. #3 - At the first hint of discord and irritation - games are off and friends will be going home. And there are new computer time rules too but I haven't quite nailed those down yet. Brian got his classes figured out for this next term. He's going to have a class 4 days a week! That's going to be a killer on the gas usage but as always we'll figure it out some how. He also told me last night that they are mandating 10 hour days starting tonight to continue indefinitely. Now while the money is nice - It's a killer on Brian's need for sleep, and his study time once school starts. I didn't get through Aryn's closet like I wanted to today. Blah! I just didn't want to do it. That will be tomorrow mornings task I guess. I did get quite a bit of laundry washed tho! Blessings, Garsy

Ok, how do you handle this? I said I was going to take an exchange student. So I talked to the rep of the company we are going through and it is not AFS. She told me that my school district had a problem taking kids that were not AFS kids, but that it was really only the principal. The school board and the superintendant have already said yes, but the principal said no. But apparently this parent did get the principal to say yes to them. So I went through the application process and it asked how long you lived at your current address. I said 2 months, but it didn't have a spot for previous address, but to me it didn't matter because I have lived here for 21 years and have three kids who are and were enrolled in the schools here. The principal told the rep that since I obviously just moved into the community, that he would rather us not take a student and put them in the school until we were used to it. So anyone who knows me can guess the answer. I first told the rep exactly how long I have lived here. I then told him that when he called the principal back that he was going to let him know that since they already had one student, it would be discrimination towards us if they didn't let us. And I told him to remind the principal that the school board and superintendant are his bosses so he doesn't get to override them. Then I told him that since the principal's ONLY concern was the length of time in the community (he failed to ask where we moved from) that he blew it because he can't turn around and find another excuse when he is told that not only have I lived in this community and have kids in the school, and volunteer in the school, and have volunteered with the rec department, and had both my son and daughter in rec department activities, he can't wriggle his way out of this one. Apparently he sent an e:mail to the rep that he would work with me and my family. I don't know what that means, but it better mean that when this kid arrives at our airport, it is me and my family picking him up. You would think that if he were going to try to get out of it, he would do just 5 minutes of homework and find a better excuse. The entire system is linked by phone number so if he would have looked up my phone number, he would have seen that we have been here and that all three of my kids are in their public schools. I do hope the rest of this goes ok because I have three kids and they are all spaced apart just enough that I can make this principal's life not so good while my kids are there. AND I am not going to sit back and take him treating them differently. Both kids who were in school last year were honor students and chosen for different awards and always given compliments by their teachers. I don't expect things to change in that regard because they know that is what is expected of them and if things do change suddenly, I will know why. But if all goes well, in just a couple of weeks he will be here. YAY!!!!

I don't know what I would do Tracy. I'm off to my interview in a few minutes. This is mine! Please God! I need this! I mean Brian has never pressured me to have a job outside of the home and he isn't this time. This is for ME. I need this! I suppose I should go and brush my teeth before I walk out the door.
