I'm sure there is a lot of vocal talent on this board. Has anyone ever thought about doing a compilation recording together? In other words, we pick a song that is familiar (and either has copyright paid for recording or is public domain), someone provides the track, one of us sings a part and uploads it/emails the recording to another. That person sings their part and uploads it/emails it to another, etc.. until we have a quartet or trio recording done. Doesn't that sound fun? Requirements would be: *The ability to record yourself digitally with a decent quality *The ability to sing the right part So for example, if we wanted to do a quartet, I could record the tenor or lead. Probably could do the baritone but I'm not a "natural" baritone. What do you guys think?

That would be cool, but I have had a hard enough time finding singers to put a real quartet together. There' s no telling how hard it would be to pull this off. I can sing tenor or lead as well and even have professional demos to some original songs.

I would think that this would be easier as you don't have to find singers "locally". You can have a guy in TX record a part and a guy in Alaska to do another :) In fact, if you have access to recording equipment, we already have 2 of the 4 singers if we do a quartet ;) Hey PM me links to your songs, I'd love to hear them. Edit: Also for the sake of time, fun, and "proof of concept", we'll just try one song

I know we talked about doing that with the "Flawless Four" thing we had for a while, but nothing ended up coming of that at that time.

I suppose I could. :) I'm in the same boat as you two--I'm naturally inclined to tenor or lead, but I can sing the top three parts. I think my voice is at is most comfortable range on lead.

Ok, I can make a track haha. I'll use a hymn that is public domain. Any suggestions?

I sang with the Capstone Quartet in Alabama for a couple of years. I sang lead but also can sing baritone and some tenor. I could do tenor on "Old Rugged Cross" out of the hymnal.

Great suggestion Daniel. PastorMiked: Do you have access to recording equipment in order to record? Let's try this line up then: Daniel: Tenor PastorMiked: Lead Me: Baritone What range is comfortable for everyone?

I think most hymnals key it in B-flat. That's OK by me. (Singing out of the hymnal, I'd be taking the alto part.)

If you can send me the track I can record it at the church where I pastor. I assume you would want me to record first if I do lead? If needed,I can also sing the tenor line in the hymnal, whichever works best for everyone. email... michaelnkarie@yahoo.com

Sure man! I threw this track together..just one verse and chorus, but it should give us a pilot program for the idea :D As we say in software development, a "proof of concept" If you guys don't like it, let me know and I can make some changes. http://www.dofusta.com/ryan/st.mp3 The .mp3 format compressed it to death. The .wav was a better quality, just so large.

Then we can either post the mp3s ourself somewhere or email them to you to post, and the quartet members can listen to us on each part and decide from there which part each should sing. I could do mine tomorrow morning, I think.

If possible to send seperate files for each vocal that'd be ideal. That way I can mix them down properly. You may also want to consider saving off the voices pre-effects. That way I can mix the effects the same on all voices in the mixdown. If they already contain effects, we may get weird reverb differences between each voice though more than likely we can overcome it. I'm open for thoughts there. My email address is RTaulbee@Comporium.net or upload/link is fine. Either way.

OK, I'll do that. For now, I'll just record demo vocals on that one verse / chorus (as hopefully pastormiked can also do) so you and Matt can decide which one of us you want on lead and which one on tenor. Do you happen to have Audacity? http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ It's a free multi-track recorder and editor we could all use (so as to be on the same page). Alternatively, if you don't want to go that route, I think I could mix it down to a WAV file with your track in the right channel and my vocal is in the left channel.

I'm running an old version of Cool Edit Pro 2.0. As long as the tracks are individual tracks, I can get them lined up properly. However, it may be easier for us to share a common platform such as Audacity. I've never heard of it so I would like to check it out. I'll download it when I get home from work.

It has some features like reverb etc., not as many as probably some would, but it's free and really easy to use. :)

Daniel, I have the Audacity program. We actually use it at the radio station where I work too. I didn't think about using that. I'll just use our studio mic. It's a great program considering it's free...lots of features. I'll email one with lead and one with tenor to MaestroSC and he can handle it from there.

I'll email him the Audacity files I taped today. You have a radio station-quality studio mic? Wow. Mine is decent quality but nothing like that.
