Also, shouldn't it be necessary to prove that the white person has slavery-involved ancestry before you can garnish their wages for slavery? Most of my white ancestors didn't even get here until WWI. When the US Gov't paid the Japanese from WW2 they used all Americans money, like they do for most everything else. Why do you think your wages are gonna be garnished? LOL.

ORIGINAL: SonInMe1 Would MLK be satisfied with an apology? I don't think so, but things were very different back in MLK's days. The fight the Black people have now is no where near what the Black people had in his day. We definitely do not have the same struggles. Any one who says otherwise is completely naive. The freedoms that Black people have is almost the same as eveyone else! quote:
Life lesson number 4005...talk is cheap. Saying you are sorry means nothing if you continue to do what you apologise for....OOOOOOPPPPSSSS, thats right, slavery was done away with 150 years ago....Jim Crow laws, 40 some years ago....hmmmm just what is THIS Congress apologising for? Foolishness. Pure Politics. I am all for self-actualization, but I think the psychological impact of slavery still exists. I think for many black people, their understanding of the way the world works is white people have money and are in charge and black people don't have money and are not in charge.

It's quite ironic that those who are for people to "get over it" (like we just insulted black people, not enslaved them) justify people shooting other people in the back in another thread (you know who you are). Maybe Joe Horn should've have gotten over it or maybe our country should have just gotten over 9/11! The past is the past! Let bygones be bygones! Let's Matthew 6:14-15 that!

but I think the psychological impact of slavery still exists. Only through a matter of choice or mental illness. I can think of only one job a black person hasn't had and that is president..and that might change soon. There are extremely wealthy and powerful black people. The two biggest struggles blacks have today is the government..and themselves.

Sounds to me like the exact attitude the continues to foster racism. There is victimhood and there is choice. Let's certainly not look at our own actions and behaviors to see if there is something we personally are doing to continue the hate. let's just blame others and forgo any sense of personal responsibility.

You are seeing why there will never be a blending of peoples in this country...or even a peaceful co-existance. Some will just never allow it to be so and the rest are helpless to change that. There is no apology, no amount of reparations, that will ever make a difference. It's human nature to want to hold onto that anger, keep it hot, make threats and make people pay. And it's only submission to God that makes letting go of that anger, and the desire for vengance, possible. You'll never see that, this side of heaven!

Since the discussion is slavery, it's probably useful to point out that there are more people in slavery now than at any other time in human history. I hope those whose ancestors were enslaved are sympathetic to this fact. Also, I'm making Rice Crispy Treats for Tracydolls.

ORIGINAL: EStan Also, I'm making Rice Crispy Treats for Tracydolls. I'm offended by Rice Crispy Treats! Do you know how many poor, underpaid, underprivileged, enslaved Oriental people had to work those rice fields? And that goes for Rice-A-Roni, too! I apologize, on behalf of all us inhumane, evil, uncompassionate, fat, ugly, snotty, mean Americans, to the Orientals for abusing rice in those ways! Your check is in the mail!

Maybe Joe Horn should've have gotten over it or maybe our country should have just gotten over 9/11! Like "we" just insulted black people, not enslaved them? What's this "we" thing? I've never had a single slave, black or otherwise. None of my ancestors did either, as far as I know. Most of my white ancestors didn't get here until WWI anyway. So, why is any of this my fault? I'm part native. My people got run off their land and slaughtered in large numbers. I got over it. *shrug* I certainly don't blame the people alive today for that. Why? Because they didn't do it. Because they think it was a BAD THING as well. Because the point has been made, it's not going to happen again, and it's time for us all to get on with things. As long as people who were never slaves keep blaming people who never owned slaves and telling them that they're horrible people and should have to pay for something that happened before any of us were born and that everyone agrees was a BAD THING, there are going to be issues with getting along with each other. In a great stroke of irony, Barack Obama, who tracydolls sees as some sort of savior for the poor oppressed ex-slave black people, IS a descendent of slave owners through his mother, and his father was Kenyan so he can't also claim to have been a slave on that side of the family.

Well, this thread has gotten on quite a bit. The original intent was to discuss the inactivity of the Democrat led U.S. Congress in not taking up issues of a bit more import. at this time. This could have waited another 6 mos imho. I think it was merely an attempt to boost up one's record and just politics as usual, which to me means that honestly, it was pointless legislation and in fact! This was only a voice vote and as a point of fact, not all of the representatives were even present at the time. IE: This WAS AND IS POLITICAL GRANDSTANDING!
