Wow! Congress just can't seem to get it right. Prices of fuel aren't high enough, so let's tack on another $.10 per gallon because we have a $9Billon short fall. NOTE TO CONGRESS! STOP SPENDING OUR MONEY... Story From the story: quote:
Despite calls from the presidential campaign trail for a Memorial Day-to-Labor Day tax freeze, lawmakers quickly concluded — with a prod from the construction industry — that having $9 billion less to spend on highways could create a pre-election specter of thousands of lost jobs. AND THEN if that doesn't get your blood boiling maybe THISwill. Do as they say but not as they do. Being powerfull has it's purks no doubt! And because I don't want to seem all negative. There may be a bit of some good news: Read here and also be sure to click on the attachments available for more info.

Mmm, the actual drilling won't happen for a while, but you have to remember that half the price right now has to do with rampant speculation, which is more a mental thing than a carved-in-stone thing. The *psychological* ramifications of opening up drilling offshore may have a rather marked impact on prices as a result. (This is what they mean when they say "market forces" and wriggle their fingers mysteriously.) And, frankly, even if we do have to wait, I would rather things get better than worse in 3 to 5 years anyway, wouldn't you?

You DO realize that the whole gas tax holiday was nothing more than a political ploy, don't you? Wasn't memorial day back in May? Did you think the tax holiday was going to be retro-ed? You DO realize that I'm not just some naive nitwit backwoods liberal expecting the government to bail us out of every thing don't you? But... BUT! What I do expect is that they cut spending instead of raising taxes to meet this $9 Billion uhh.. "SHORTFALL!" Evangel70, I've got no ought against you but try to be a little less condescending? And then if you would kindly answer the D.A.W.S.N.A.W.D. (do as we say not as we do)Story about the nitwit dimmocrats and the Denver area gas tax holiday that the conventioneers get? And again, it isn't all bad news. The dollar is up slightly and oil has gone down almost $20 bucks in the last week or so!!!

Yeah, here in Denver everyone's still livid about the thought (even though the gas tax holiday thing has been cancelled now because the city council threw a fit). Huge news story. hehehe

From the original FoxNews article - quote:
Depriving the 52-year-old Highway Trust Fund of $9 billion at a time when it is heading into the red doomed the notion of a gas tax holiday in Congress. Just three years ago, that trust fund enjoyed a surplus of $10 billion. Even without a tax freeze, the fund is projected to finish 2009 with a deficit of $3 billion. Lawmakers Could Consider Gas Tax Hike I wonder if the location of this year's Republican Convention might have helped in some bipartisan way? I-35W Mississippi River bridge It is short-sighted in the extreme not to maintain our infrastructure. That is what the gas tax does, maintain our infrastructure.

Which to those who know basic economics, will simply be passed down to the consumer. Too bad they can't come up with a "greenie" tax and tax them on all their hot air.

It's more fair to say, who is in a position to create a crisis? Who has close ties? Hmm. Ever heard of Occam's Razor - well, the simple answer is usually the truth. Notice we have a banking crisis too? The Bush family has quite a history in banking debacles - strange.

I suppose it would be imprudent of me to remind those complaining about the gas prices that it was the republicans, name one Phil Gramm, who pushed for deregulation of energy speculation. They let a man who's wife was a lobbyist for Enron write the legislation that's now known as the Enron Loophole. This same man was, and obstensively still is, McCain's ecconomic advisor. Of course because he's a republican that means it's ok to cheat the system like he has. Silly me to have forgotten.

When your political ideology is based on covetness and scapegoatisms, common sence goes out the window. Our goverment should be about infrastructure. That is big. Unfortunately our government is defined, I think, really well by how it runs its schools. Today, its not about education that is the driving force behind schools....its keeping the jobs of teachers. Same way with politicians...its not about the USA or good government...its about re-election. Let me state for the "record". The government did not cause this rise in gas prices. The government is not the cure. What we need is..more oil. What we need is to discover other energy sources...that make sence. Europe has been paying much more for gas for years. Ya think fuel prices are bad now....wait for winter. When you look to the government for solutions, you get government solutions. Don't blame the government...blame yourself.

Cut spending on Nukes, we gotta enough to blow us all up 10 times. If we could spend less on prostitutes, mistress's, golf courses, alcohol, meals, gold toilets, etc. WE would probaly have some money left to spend on infrastructure.

Here's a question to those who advocate nuclear power. What do you do with the toxic waste? Now I'm nominally in favor of new nuclear plants, but only if a sufficiently safe means of waste disposal can be developed.

I will agree that cutting spending on this infrastructure in your area would probably be a good thing. Have you ever heard the term "squeal like a pig?" This is just like a liberal. If you're so concerned, what is your electic bill every month? Oink Oink POOH Bear I didn't say cut spending on infrastructure... although if you ask the folks of the great state of Minnesota about the pork that went to build a bike trail, they may argue it a bit more. $8B in pork clogs U.S. infrastructure plans

Europe is also a smaller country than the United States so the analogy is faulty based on that alone. Since when is Europe a country? Look at the cost of gas and other goods in those countries that have socialized medicine? It isn't free and it isn't good. But this is not the thread to discuss this issue. We have a democratic congress that is more concerned about a political agenda than helping the poor they suppposedly love. And our poor have been so dumbed-down by our educational system and their hacks in the media, they believe in their lies.
