ORIGINAL: dozermom67 Amazing how that, after going to doctor after doctor after doctor (and spending money we didn't have!), I am figuring this out "on my own." I prayed and prayed for healing (not knowing exactly what I was dealing with at the time), and instead the Lord led me to the knowledge I needed to be healed. I SO look forward to feeling "human" again! dozermom Are you saying that you're putting yourself on this restrictive diet without having any medical supervision? Does your doctor even know that you are doing this?

I checked out the book "Body Ecology" from my local library and got a lot of information and I think it had recipes in it as well. If you can find someone who can give you some kefir grains you can make your own much cheaper. If you live in my area (Tulsa) I'll get some to you. It's much cheaper that way. I did the yeast cleanse a little over a year ago and it's definitely worth it.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. I'm tired of spending money that we can't afford to doctors who keep putting me on this or that which doesn't work. More money down the drain that could be used to pay our bills or for things the kids need, and I still felt miserable physically. There's nothing wrong with the "diet" I'm on - lots of good, fresh veggies, fresh fruits, no sugars or starchy stuff, lean meats, yogurt, no junk food, no sodas. I'm beginning to feel better than I have in years. I'm taking my daily vitamins and getting in exercise. Even my aches and pains are "letting up" some. I'm not doing this to lose weight, but to get myself healthy (although I have lost a few pounds this week). It's about only eating stuff that's good for me.

I have to say that I'm very concerned about the fact you're not doing this under supervision of any kind although I can understand your frustration at doctors not being able to treat you. I will say only that I'd urge you to look at eating some grains, they are not all bad, and do not have to be prepared in an unhealthy way. I'd also suggest that you check your salt intake ~ while too much salt is harmful to us, too little salt can be equally harmful. Finally, you may want to check what ingredients are in your vitamin pills. Ensure that you're not taking too much of one thing in at a time (eg iron) ~ it can be easily done if you're taking different tablets each day. I do hope that this helps you sort your problems out quickly.

I use salt, but not an over abundance. I'm taking a good multi-vitamin and then just depending upon my food for the rest.

Do any of you have any good bean recipes? Something quick and easy, not a lot of "added stuff." Kidney beans, black beans, garbanzo beans, black eyed peas, and so on. Even the canned ones (I rinse them before anyway). What kind of seasonings do you like on these? I have a good black bean salsa or "Texas Caviar," but have to eliminate the corn in it for now. I could eat this until the cows come home. LOL. I'm going to pick up some hummus today as well. I especially love the garlic kind, although my husband would complain...

Most of the recipes that I have include grains of some sort ~ either rice, barley or spelt or a combination of these. You may want to look into the book 'Magic Beans: 150 Delicious Recipes Featuring Nature's Low-fat, Nutrient Rich, Disease-fighting Powerhouse' by Patti Bazel Geil.

Hummus is incredibly easy to make if you have a decent blender. Dump in about 2 cans of chickpeas/garbanzo beans (drain 1 can), add garlic, some salt, lemon juice, and olive oil to taste (we use quite a bit of olive oil), and blend until you get a texture you like.

Thanks for this! I bought some hummus and went through so quick! That would get expensive. I'll definitely be making my own and experimenting with it. Yum!

You should try and get hold of some unrefined coconut oil too. You can cook with it, bake with it and apply it to your skin. It has antifungal properties and can be helpful in dealing with infections such as you seem to be experiencing.

And you can use coconut flour for baking--especially things like muffins--without any adverse effects. You can google "coconut flour recipes" and pull up a few and modify to eliminate anything you can't have. I never use sugar, and some recipes use part coconut flour and part wheat flour---I don't do that. I do have friends who swallow a spoonful of coconut oil every day for the health benefits. Even if you don't cook with it, using it as an after-shower moisturizer is great---and you absorb a LOT of things through your skin. But be careful with it if you're underweight. One of the compounds in coconut oil (one of the l. acids) supports the thyroid and can cause weight loss.

I started to use it towards the end of last year. In March my TSH (thyroid function test) wasn't working as well as it had been (this happens every couple of years though) and my last blood test showed it still wasn't working despite increase in meds and because of that, I've gained weight! But as monamie said, do be careful if you're underweight. If you can't find coconut flour (and I've never been able to) you may want to consider trying making things from ground almonds. Apparently you can make some fairly good tasting 'bread' from it.

You don't have to worry about me being "underweight"....I have plenty of padding! (too much) "Underweight" for me would be "wishful shrinking!" LOL.

Did you ask what the actual readings are? Many doctors disagree on what the "normal" range is, and many women go undiagnosed because of this. If you tell me the results, I can tell you just how "normal" they are!

If you tell me the results, I can tell you just how "normal" they are! To be honest I don't remember what the numbers were. I had two different doctors draw blood and check it independently, and both said it was normal. One was in January the other was March or April. If I happen onto the information I'll let you know though. Meanwhile, from the "die-off" symptoms of the yeast and all I've read about I know I'm on the right track with that anyway.

It says, Okay, I had mine tested...here are the results... T4 - 7.7 TSH - 2.14 T3 - 1.27 They said, "they are within normal range." So why do I have so many symptoms?! Should I get another opinion or what?

Well, if I am reading this right, your T4 appears normal, your TSH is borderline high (since the range is 0.3-3.0) and your T3 is low. Let me do some more checking and get back to you.

Any suggestions for helping relieve the yeast "die-off" symptoms? Sometimes it's miserable. I have been drinking lots of water, green tea, eating plenty of veggies for fiber, eating a small amount of grains (just the past couple of days - brown rice, oatmeal) to help flush out the toxins released by the dying yeast in my system. I also back off of my Yeast Away suppliment some when the die-off symptoms get really bad.
