BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. - Conan O'Brien will take over the "Tonight" show next June — and what happens to deposed host Jay Leno after that is anybody's guess.

Leno's last show will be Friday, May 29, and O'Brien will start the following Monday, June 1, NBC executives told a Television Critics Association meeting Monday.

NBC is angling to keep Leno with NBC Universal but the late-night king has indicated he's ready to jump ship. Eager NBC competitors, including other networks and syndicators, are prepared to help him make the leap.

I like Leno. I'm sure someone will give him another show.

Talon3 -> RE: Leno's last `Tonight' is May 29; O'Brien in June 1 (7/22/2008 4:00:02 PM)

I must say that I will continue to watch Leno if/when he goes somewhere else when I am up that late. I just don't like Conan all that much.

kohls356 -> RE: Leno's last `Tonight' is May 29; O'Brien in June 1 (7/22/2008 4:41:37 PM)

I don't like Conan so I won't watch the Tonight show after Leno leaves.

amybreit -> RE: Leno's last `Tonight' is May 29; O'Brien in June 1 (7/24/2008 10:29:36 AM)

Same here! I don't think O'Brien is all that funny & I usually like Leno's humor (especially "headlines").

lexie -> RE: Leno's last `Tonight' is May 29; O'Brien in June 1 (7/24/2008 10:54:53 AM)

I've been saying that May 29 is also my last Tonight Show. Leno is the only late night host I like.

I've heard that ABC has publicly announced that they will give him a show if he likes.

uncabeeil -> RE: Leno's last `Tonight' is May 29; O'Brien in June 1 (7/24/2008 12:23:33 PM)

My last tonight Show was Johnny's last Tonight Show. Leno could do the show for a thousand years and never be as good as Johnny.

I, too, like Jay Leno. I don't hate Conan, but his humor is so juvenile it gets old soon. I will follow Jay to ABC or FOX, whichever gives him his show. The decision to replace him will come back to bite NBC in the butt.

I'm surprised they're replacing Leno. I know he has lost some of his "hipster" cred but he seemed to be a good middle of the road host.

There will never be another Johnny. Nobody, noway, nohow.

I like Craig Ferguson myself. He isn't for everybody but if he's your style you'll be hooked. He appears to be gaining in popularity (when they showed him on The Tonight Show very briefly, literally less than five seconds, during a segment on the Montreal comedy festival the crowd cheered). Craig won't be the anchor of anyone's late night lineup (way too quirky) but he's solid in the 12:30 slot and should deliver a consistent audience for a long time to come.

I like Craig. I was so impressed at the monologue he gave after his father's funeral, and I have enjoyed following his journey to citizenship. I have gotten a little tired of his skits, but still love his interviews.

You have to have a real appreciation for the absurdly silly to enjoy his skits, many of which have very little connection to who is being spoofed.

You gotta love "Prince Charles" though.

He gave a really good speech in Fanuel Hall the morning of July 4 this year about his becoming a citizen and ideals of America. I wish his banter later that evening while MC'ing the Boston Pops would have been as intelligent.

I'm not too tired to watch them. My favorite, I think, is" Murder She Wrote."

Nodding my head firmly in agreement!!

One of the treats I had growing up was getting to stay up & watch The Tonight Show on Friday nights when Joan Embry from the San Diego Zoo would bring animals on.

I really like Jay. I think he's funny & witty.

Conan is to sophmoric for me. I won't be watching

I'm a Craig Ferguson fan. I too folllwed his journey to citizenship. What impressed me is how determined he was about becoming a citizen.

Oh my goodness, the one the other night was great, when they could stop laughing. [:D]

"Has there been a murder?!?!?!?!". Love it.

I don't like Conan either, so I'll go where Jay goes - or I'll go to bed! :o)

HisFish -> RE: Leno's last `Tonight' is May 29; O'Brien in June 1 (8/6/2008 6:34:32 PM)

Anybody but letterman is fine with me, except for Chevy chase's ill advised foray into late night.

I'm on withdrawal I guess its not even on because of the Olympics? They should have had someone there interviewing the athletes. It would have been funny.
