Anyone see this film? I have a hard time believing there is not a thread on it here already.

Saw it last night and enjoyed it a lot. Esp. that big plot twist in the middle.....

I saw it and was very disappointed. It could have been a good movie but it had way to much foul language. Way way to much. It just goes to show you how out of touch Hollywood is with the rest of the world. It also solidified my opinion that the movie "moguls" are more lucky than smart.

I liked the movie a lot. It is pretty good.

I liked that it was not the typical movie.

alias007 -> RE: Hancock (7/21/2008 6:43:35 PM)

I was disappointed with it. I really didn't like the twist. I thought it made the movie feel disjointed. I liked where it was going before the twist, but afterwards I felt like it lost steam.
I usually really enjoy Will Smith films, but this one wasn't one of my favorites. I aslo agree that the profanity was a bit over the top; especially hearing it come from children's mouths several times.
On the positive side; I thought Jason Bateman did an excellent job in the movie.

Ironically, I watched it last night too, and did a search and couldn't find a thread about it.

The first 20-30 minutes were entertaining, but just like with Iron Man, I began to lose interest half way through.

I enjoyed it. It's a mess, but not a bad one, though yes the language issue is very much there (not up there with something like The Big Lebowski, but a bit more then I've noticed in most other movies lately).

Katie-Scarlet -> RE: Hancock (7/28/2008 4:52:40 AM)

Just watched this movie and while I had an its alright movie attitude I found the twist to make it more entertaining and even though I'm not a romantic movie watcher by first choice ( I have to be really bored and have nothing else) I truly enjoyed the romanticism the ending brought.

Warning if you haven't seen the movie SPOILER ALERT! BIG ONE! DO NOT READ FURTHER

On a side note the whole thing with them being immortal as long as they don't stay near each other. How cruel is it to make them in a pair to always seek each other out....unless they are trying to say that Love makes one weak. Or that Love is so strong that even when faced with it making you mortal one would do anything to have it.

So who loved who more her for always trying to stay away from him so that he could live ( or I guess they both could live) or him for not caring and wanting to be with her anyway and seeking her out over and over (although the last time was a fluke) even though he knew their time would be limited.

The movie showed what can happen to change a person who is on a destructive path if just one person believes in them. Most times there is something eating away at that person that has brought them to that place. He thought he was alone and that no one cared about him because he must have been a jerk, so he became one. Until someone cared.

Good movie!

loveleee -> RE: Hancock (7/28/2008 12:46:15 PM)

We watched it Saturday. I liked that it was different but thats all. I guess I had my hopes up to high. The foul language was a big turn off. Why cant movie people tone down (or completely elliminate ) the bad words??? I guess thats only a fantasy

Mr.musicman -> RE: Hancock (8/2/2008 10:17:55 PM)

hated it! i want to see a good action/comedy and i saw this i was so disappointed.

1love1God1way -> RE: Hancock (8/6/2008 12:44:43 PM)

I was really disappointed with this movie as well.

I sniffed out the "twist" right away, aside from the ridiculous notion of the distance between them/immortality kind of thing. Stooooopid.

And really. . . the movie wasn't very funny. at all.

In the words of Tommy Boy. . ."It's Herbie Hancock."

Not that that has anything to do with my review, but I just like that quote.

janlallen -> RE: Hancock (8/8/2008 7:26:03 PM)

Is he a doubting Thomas? A superhero? I guess this film is trying to get across that point. Next-time you go for a walk remember me. It fits in the dramedy field. Sort of funny and awkard. "I though kind of liked it."

ObviousLee -> RE: Hancock (8/9/2008 2:47:09 PM)

I saw it involuntarily. Basically, I hated it. I have to confess to not liking Will Smith nor his movies in general. He actually reminds me of someone I went to school with. His typecast is basically very juvenile. His cocky (I'm going to wup your......) is carried into any movie I've ever seen with him. I shutter at the thought of seeing the Muhummad Ali movie. The kicker I think was when he knocked out an Alien being, who later showed signs of a creature who could have ripped him to shreds in the movie Independence Day. The ID movie of course was a parody of sorts, but it was disappointing to see the usual Will Smith verbage cross-over into that particular movie. Hancock of course was designed for his cocky role. Basically, he played an albeit heroic moron who needed guidance from far more intelligent beings.

There was also the usual tinge of subtle racism. As heroic, strong, humorous (generally speaking), as he was; the White man got the White lady. I'm sure this was shaded by many due to his highly hyped starring role. There was also of course the run-in with the Asian gang where Mr. Hancock made the usual emasculating comment insinuating that Asian males are not compatible with females (whether playing the roles of geeks or gang members).

It's a walk remember? Its kind of liked manifested. I'll remember that. A great story told. Fits in the dramedy field. Sort of funny and awkard. I enjoy virtual reality of this film.
