So, Are there any movies you love that you love that make you cry?

it's a wonderful life-it doesn't fail. Everytime I cry
life is beautiful- an amazing story of a father's love for his son

That is all I can think of for now

Housekeeping directed by Bill Forsythe is sublime. It is about 2 sisters around the age of 12 who move in to live with their "crazy " Aunt Sophie - played by Christine Lhati after their mother's suicide. The sister's varying tolerance levels for their aunt causes them to grow apart. This growing apart is one of the saddest things I've ever seen on the screen.

Another would be the Deer Hunter when the one friend is voluntarily playing russian roulette with his friend in a last attempt to save him and his friend is killed.

Matthew's death in Anne of Green Gables.

The death of Bambi's mother would be another

That's a good one. Dances with Wolves too, though I have come to really dislike Kevin Costner, so it's hard to say that.

Saving Private Ryan, Schindler's list, Amazing Grace, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, Shadowlands, The Return of the King where Gandalf is describing Middle Earth's version of heaven to Pippen, as well as the scene where Frodo et. al. is leaving Middle Earth, that little scene at the end of Signs where all the things that caused Mel Gibson to lose his faith are the the very things that restore his faith again.

Ok, I'm basically a big gush ball.

One more with a funny story.

A few years ago, for some reason, my wife and I had rented a series of movies that were very emotionally intense, many of which seemed to be about children in danger or being harmed in some way, and we were getting emotionally drained from watching a series of movies like that ( in part I think because we were young parents).

We decided we wanted to watch something lighthearted for a change of pace, so we rented the Best Picture winner for that year that was billed as a 'life affirming comedy'.

Needless to say, by the end of Life Is Beautiful we contemplated giving up on watching movies all together!
