pstrdebi -> Kid's Say The Darndest Things!... (7/10/2008 10:21:00 AM)

I just came across a little journal that I was keeping as my kids were growing up... funny things they said or did.

Having 5 grown kids and now 6 grand-kids... I have heard a plethora (I love that word) of funny things from these kiddo's. Here is one:

Once when my kids were little, we were leaving church and getting into the car, and my then 9 year old son said, "mom, how can I give God something that I can't put in the offering plate?" I said, "what do you mean Donnie?" He went on to tell me that he wanted to give God his voice. So I told him, "Donnie, just offer up to God your voice. Tell Him, 'Lord I want to give You my voice.' He may not use it right now... but someday He will." After a minute of silence, my youngest daughter Megan, then 4 years old, said, "what are you talking about Donnie?" Donnie said, "Well, right now I just gave God my voice." Megan stood up, put her hands on her hips, and in her very best "valley girl" voice said, "Oh yeah, and like, he's still talking!"

How about you? What funnie's have your kids or grand-kids said or done lately or in the past?

How cute, debi! And BTW, I'm a 'word' person so I really enjoyed your 'plethora'!

One of our funnies from our son's growing up years is when he was learning to dress himself, learning about clothing appropriate for various seasons, etc. So he was learning about all the terminology---short sleeved, long sleeved, etc. Anyway, one day he got up and asked, "Can I wear short sleeved pants today?" Of course he meant shorts. But we still laugh over that.

For us, shorts will now always be short sleeved pants.

My 5 yr old grandson...

called his hampster...eat...no idea why.

He is..the center of attention and I don't know why he calls his "buns" this but...he calls them...dangerous.

He loves the food network...his gf? Racheal Ray.

He calls his dad...daddio.

My son, when he finished his first day of school, kindergarden, he comes home and says, dad I have a dirty joke to tell you. I am kinda wondering what joke he has heard...on the first day of school so I ask him to tell me. He says...

A white horse fell down in a mud puddle...a dirty joke......[;)]

My family tends to be..horizontally challenged, lets say and one 4th of July my brother was putting on a fireworks display. He had a table about 50 yards away where he had the fireworks and was lighting them off and walking back to see them.

Well one he lit didn't take and when he went to light it again, it was still burning so he ran away from the table to which my 7 yr old son says..

run, fat boy, run. I think he has his dad's sence of humor....[:D]

Years ago my sister had a huge problem getting all her kids ready for church on Sunday.
So one sunday her ds (was 4 or 5 at the time) during the service piped up and exclaimed, "I don't see what the big deal is. Every time we visit God is never Home!

Today my own son, boy I could write forever about him. This one story is more of a visual amd I will never forget it. I am an outdoors person, so we were walking around the pond early spring. He kicked a pine cone to reveal an earthworm and ask, "Momma What's that?" and repeated himself by saying, "This?" Pointing to the earthworm. I answered and said, "It's a worm!" I picked it up and placed it in his hand. He smiled until it squirmed and he let out a deep soul scream as he dropped it.
He walked away as he shuddered his whole body.
All I can say is he must take after his father, because I belong to ate the worm club! [:D]

Growing up in the country, my sister loves to harvest stuff, put up hay, berry picking, etc. but my bro/law grew up in the city. When they started a family they moved from the to a three acre 'spread' and except the house it was all lawn(grass)and brother/law dislikes yard work but for her and the boys sake(and the school district)he endured 'til the boys graduated high school. The grass was getting pretty tall and my bro/law was dreading the job and Josef, about three(he's 20 now) huffed, 'Ya' got to do what ya' got to do...' Talk about timing.

My oldest (boy) was agitated by the youngest (girl). We were at the supper table trying to have family conversation. She was making faces at him and he blew up. I told him to calm down and ignore her. She sits back and says, "He's like a remote control, he has lots of buttons to push." Even he joined the laughter.

Oh... these are great!

...short sleeved pants...
...daddio...

Crh737... I know that shudder... my grandson did it a few days ago! [:D]

... ya' gotta do... and remote control kids! HA!!!

Ok here's one... and I know someone inparticular will have a comment (come-on... you know who you are... I can take it! [:D])

When my two youngest were about 4 (Megan) and 5 (David).... we always liked telling secrets. Nothing specatcular... just a little game. But those two were always very competitive... so secrets were big to them. This particular time David came up to my ear to tell me a secret. Megan wanted to hear what it was...

... so she went to the other ear to listen!

One of my favorite stories from when my kids were little was from when we were home missionaries among Native Americans in South Dakota. Every summer we had to visit our supporting churches in order to raise our support. The problem with that was we had small children and all our supporting churches were on the east coast, about 2000 miles away. Another problem was that we were not very highly paid, and while I think we may have gotten a gas allowance for this yearly trek, there was no money for motels. So we had to get creative about how we went about travelling that many miles with little kids. One of the first things we learned was that if we travelled at night, they would sleep and we could get a long way. We also learned quickly that Kansas City, where my brother lived, was 12 hours away, and if we left after supper we would arrive at his house by breakfast time. One year, as we were beginning this trip, I was explaining to my kids what was going to happen. They had just been watching Peter Pan. I had no idea how much my telling them, "We're going to get in the van and ride all night until tomorrow, and then we'll be at Uncle Jimmy's house" sounded like "left at the first star and straight on until morning." But I found out when my daughter, then about three years old, asked, "Does Uncle Jimmy live at Never Land?"

Preschoolers don't have a monopoly on saying funny things. Just yesterday I was picking up a prescription for my daughter. Both she and my 13 year old son were with me. We'd had a longer wait than we should have and as we were leaving the pharmacist apologized, saying, "sorry for your wait." My son did a double take, and told us afterward what he had heard: "Sorry for your weight."

When my son was four, I washed his blanket, and put it in the dryer to dry. However, I forgot to put some downy in, so his "blankie" was full of static electricity. I took my son and his blanket into the closet, shut the door and showed him the "little lightnings" the blanket made. I then explained that I had forgot the downy so the static electricity was produced.

He pondered on that for a minute, and then said "When real lightning comes, does that mean that God forgot top add the downy?"

My sister overheard her little one (Rachael) say that she wanted to climb up to the top of the fir tree across the road from her house. When my sister asked her why she wanted to do such a thing, Rachael replied, "So I can get closer to God!"

Out of the mouths of babes......

My ds has very keen senses. He hates for me to change his pillow case or wash his quilt. He absolutely can't sleep on a different pillow than his own because they don't "Smell right"

We took 2 of our grandkids to church one Sunday while we were at their house babysitting them while their mom and dad went away for the weekend. We decided to visit a Pentacostal church and Taylor, our oldest granddaughter, then 9, wanted to stay in "big church" with us. About mid-way through the sermon, the pastor started getting "fired-up" and was preaching passionately. Taylor leaned over, and with that matter of fact California accent said, "He's got a micraphone, does he half to yell!"

My son Tommy and his cousin Hezekiah (both are 2) were playing inside a pop-up house at my mother in-law's house. They took turns popping their heads out of the windows and saying "Hi" to me.

Then out of the blue, Heze would pop his head out of the window and say, "chicken nugget".

So he was like, "Hi" and I would say "Hi" and then he'll say, "chicken nugget". He did this about 3 times in a row.

We're moving in a couple of weeks, so the talk around our house has been focused on moving, packing, preparing for the move, etc.

On the way to pick up my DH from work today, our son (5) blurts out, "We moving far, far, away...to Kansas...to see...JESUS!!!" It was TOO cute!!!! [:D]

When I was pregnant with my son and my daughter was about 18 months old, we were in my husband's pickup (with her carseat in the middle) running errands. We stop to pay a bill, husband gets out and trots up the steps right in front of the truck stumbling a bit. When he gets back into the truck, daughter looks at him and says, "Been walking long, DAD?????" (SHE WAS 18 MONTHS OLD) He looks at me, and I just bust out laughing....[8D]

When Megan, my baby (now 23) was about 4.... I told her to say grace before dinner. I was in a terrible mood and felt very whiny... nothing was going MY way... and to top it off, I didn't have any Pepsi for dinner! So when Megan said grace, she started off with the usual, but then started telling God how thankful she was for everything... like the "pictures on the plates." Kid's have a way of putting us in our place too! Needless to say, God spoke to me through that and I recognized things wern't too bad afterall... even without Pepsi!

I posted this somewhere else but I think it will fit here too.

Friday during my dd (almost 8) reading time, she came up to me and said "Mom, whoever wrote this book needs to be fired." I guess she didn't like the story!!!

pstrdebi -> RE: Kid's Say The Darndest Things!... (7/21/2008 6:38:20 PM)

Sometimes you don't even realize what your child is saying as a child... until they are grown. I was driving with my oldest daughter a few years ago (she's 30 now... yes, I was a child when I had her!) when she pointed out to her kids... "the crust of the moon." I asked her with a very quizzicle look, "why'd you call it that?" She looked at me with shock and said, "that's what you told me it was when I was a kid!" To which I replied... "no sweetie, I told you it was a crescent moon."

When she was little, I said one thing... but she heard "crust of the moon!"... and called it that all her life!!!

Too funny!!
