I love ebay as well. We have gotten and also sold a lot of stuff on there through the years.

I had to bid on one of the smurfs as well. If I win it, it will be a Christmas gift for my bil the PA.

ORIGINAL: WhiteRoseBlessings I've already got one auction all packaged and ready to ship tomorrow. I got the PayPal notification almost immediately after the auction closed! Aren't those just the BEST buyers??? YES the are! I've paid for things via PayPal, but it was fun to be on the other side of it.

I don't know about y'all . . . but there's something in the anonymity factor of the bidding process that just absolutely intrigues me. And the few things I have bought from eBay, I enjoyed the anonymity factor then as well . . . and it's always a weird thrill to win an auction. LOL When I had the estate auction a couple of years ago, I really didn't "enjoy" it as well as I think I could have . . . but then, given the circumstances, I don't know if I could have enjoyed it any more than I actually did. But I did have moments throughout the weekend (it was a 2-day auction) where I was able to actually get into the moment of things and watch ins and outs of the auction. And yeah, there were even about 3 or 4 items that I bought! I just couldn't help myself. It was probably all an emotion thing because I spent a year getting ready for the auction and deciding what to keep and what not to keep (and had I just kept the items in the first place, I wouldn't have had to buy the at the auction LOL). And THEN, I turned around and gave a couple of the things I bought at the auction to other people. Go figure.

I have sold a coat, a couple of mini vans, magazines, a couple of DVDs, a few baby items... We have done other stuff, but can't get my brain to work so I can remember. It is easier to remember stuff we have bought.

I bid on a Shar-Mar smurf (Papa smurf conducting), but didn't win. I couldn't stay on the comptuer toward the end of the auction. I wasn't going to, but saw I had money in my paypal account and figured ... if I win something, it'll be like it's free.

LOL! I like your way of thinking, Christine. YOU were actually the very first bidder I got on any of the auctions; I was pretty tickled about that. I wasn't 100% positive that it was you, but I was sure enough to feel confident about it. And, it occurred to me the other day that I need to upload my auctions at a better time than the middle of the night. My goal is to now upload them no later than 9pm or 10pm (EST) so that at least bidders from Pacific Time through Eastern Standard Time can bid on them during reasonable evening hours. There's not much I can do about people in other time zones, though.

I was the first??? Well I feel special then. Real hard-core ebay users will stay up all hours of the night to win, I've discovered.

Welcome to the threads, Stacey! And thanks for stopping by; I'm sure I'll have more toys that will need to be identified (not all of them made it the first round). Blessings, Sharon-Marie

Lessee, Pam . . . we're talking about "old" right? Well, some of these toys are very old . . . the oldest going back to the early 50's. Blogs . . . Back in April, I wrote a blog about these very toys: Click HERE if you want to read it. Mods and their smileys . . . are always welcomed in any of my threads. Seems to me that we're pretty much on topic.

Hey y'all! I thought I would take a moment and recap my first few auctions, which were comprised of Smurfs, Astrosniks and Garfield toys . . . all these auctions ended throughout last week. The Smurfs were the first auctions, and they were also all 7-Day auctions. I think that's too long, and have decided to do a combination of 3-Day and 5-Day auctions from now on. All the Smurfs (except, interestingly, Peewit - the human friend of Smurfs) sold. And there were a LOT of smurfs! I had 3 Astrosniks auctions, and two of them sold. The one that didn't sell was a shampoo bottle with a couple of cracks in the lid and lid cover (Astrosnik's head). I actually debated, before putting it up for auction, whether to throw it away or not. But since it didn't sell, that's exactly where it went. A bit less than half of the Garfield toys sold. Interestingly, all those auctions ended on a Saturday night. Too, retrospectively, I think I started those auctions a bit high (I was sleepy when I uploaded them). Between Smurfs, Astrosniks and Garfield, there were a total of 50 auctions, and from those, 37 of them sold, ranging in final bids from $1.29 - $40.00. The Abraham Lincoln Smurf was the highest selling of those auctions. There were 16 buyers of the 37 auctions (and an additional 17 bidders). There were a total of 97 bids placed among all the auctions . . . Abraham Lincoln had the highest number of bids: 8. Of the 16 buyers, 13 are from the United States, 1 is from from Argentina; 1 is from Australia and 1 is from The United Kingdom. It was split about half / half as to single-auction and mutiple-auction buyers. One buyer won 16 auctions, for a total of 37 toys. That was pretty neat; they were Christmas shopping for their son. Of the 37 auctions that did sell, there's a total of 65 toys and 2 tree ornaments. The buyers were very nice in their communications, and I found myself actually rooting for certain buyers and feeling a bit let-down if they lost their auction. It's been very interesting, and I think I'm getting into the groove of things. Good thing, too, since I have a long way to go before everything has been auctioned. Oh, Catherine . . . I've been thinking a lot about your question as to what I will do with the toys that don't sell. eBay gives a relisting option, where if an auction doesn't sell the first time, the seller can relist the same auction one more time; and if it then does sell, the seller will only be charged the initial insertion fee. My plan for the toys that don't initially sell is to relist them. If they don't sell after that, then I will combine some of those toys and create new auctions. If they don't sell after that, then I will give them away. And there y'all have it . . . my first week in auctioning the contents of my exploded toy factory.

Rach, I've been thinking about this question since you posted it . . . and the one thing that keeps coming back to me as THE most memorable is how it is no longer a big scary deal for me. Scary, as in two ways: (1) Falling on my face and other parts of my anatomy in selling these goofy things on eBay; (2) Having to relive some very painful memories from when CS took his life. Neither one of those aspects have been noticeably present during the past couple of months that I've been working on this project. Faint twinges of both, yes; full-blown actualities, no. The fact that this has basically been "just another project" is a huge, wonderful blessing from Our Lord, and I truly praise Him and thank Him for it. Thanks for asking!
