I don't know what stella would say, but I'd think twice a day (instead of your mouthwash).

Okay. Morning and evening sounds good. I did do it this morning, and since I have no breaks in my tongue right now, it was no big deal. Thank you!

I concur that twice is fine. I promise it won't hurt you. If you had your tongue pierced I would tell you rinse every time you ate or smoked, and that's a lot more than twice! (Not that you smoke or eat a lot, I'm just sayin'...)

Ouch. Biting your tongue hurts worse than getting it pierced. Promise.

Abiyah, my mother (age 76) has constant trouble with her tongue since having sinus surgery. They dx'd Geographic Tongue and gave her mouthwash that cost $79.00 WITH insurance. She also has the cracks, etc. One doctor mentioned Vit. B and another said allergy to the metals and linings used in her mouth. You know, I used that nighttime Crest and remember a sweet taste at night. I used it only at bedtime. Too expensive right now.

Well, I haven't had sinus surgery. I wonder why they think that caused it? It is interesting to me, too, that she was told the vitamin Bs. I have to admit: no doctor told me that. I was having a hard time with my allergies, because I am allergic to three common foods I enjoy and didn't want to give up, especially since they only bothered me at times, and there was no warning when they would bother me. The foods are mainly some tomatoes, some walnuts, and some bananas. Upon eating one tomato while out of town, I came within one minute from going to the emergency room in Centralia, WA, when I suddenly could tell I was improving. In frustration, I prayed about wanting relief, and right after the prayer, vitamin Bs could not have been more vivid to me in my thoughts if the words had dropped out of the ceiling, in flashing red lights, right in my lap. I thought I was just being weird but bought some anyway, and there was a marked improvement within less than 36 hours. Then, I knew I wasn't nuts. And as long as I take the Bs every third day or so, I have no problems, but the cracks seem to be permanent. They only break open if I forget the Bs. Now, about the Crest. Stella, when I was a dental assistant, we really pushed Crest. What do you know that I don't know. And if you need to PM it, to be safe, please PM it.

I did read the other day (though I'm trying to recall exactly where) that even just rinsing your mouth out with water (as a mouthwash) helped.

ORIGINAL: dianetavegia Abiyah, Mother had (elective surgery) a sinus lift. She had cadavar bone implanted alongside marrow from her hip and in her third surgery, they put in cadavar tissue on the roof of her mouth. She has a metal plate and metal mesh plus metal pins to hold in her false teeth (permanent now). They'd used a rubber liner on her old teeth while waiting for her to heal and her face and throat swelled up. That's when all this tongue problem started. That sounds like a latex allergy. I hope they get all that straightened out soon! I'll pray for your mom.

ORIGINAL: stellaluna Oh...I was mostly being melodramatic. I've used Crest toothpaste my entire life and I haven't had a cavity since age 12, so it must work pretty well. But the mouth rinse...I think it's just too strong. There were the problems I had with it and I've read about other problems online: claims that it stains teeth, numbs your mouth and alters taste. That sort of thing makes me wary of their mouth rinses. Oddly, I have never used these mouth washes full strength -- I always added them to water, about 1 part mouth wash to 10 parts warm water, then used them in my gum irrigator. If they are effecting me while that weakened, that will be amazing. Wow. Agapetos, since being told about this, I am using just water in my gum irrigator, and it's not so bad. I am doing the salt water before using it but thinking about using it afterward. I don't know if that will make a difference. Wow, Diane. That reads like major surgery! That's one gutsy woman. The foods I mentioned do the same thing to me. Often, my tongue would swell so badly that I could not talk without biting it. It was bad. Worse, sometimes I would get those foods without even knowing it -- especially the walnuts. As Stella wrote, that sounds like a latex allergy. In fact, I react so similarly that at first, I was told I had that, but I don't.

I've used salt water many times for hygienic and healing reasons. It does help keep your breath fresh. I would not be drinking it due to high blood pressure though.

My BP would be *helped* by drinking it, as it's low!

Mine is low, too, and I'm trying to keep it here. Is that a problem, Manda? My children are like that, too.
