Oh cool; a gazebo birdfeeder; I think that's an awesome idea, Kath! Why does Linz not like it? Oh, btw . . . sometimes book stores will give you a discount if you buy a title in volume. Just thought I'd share that with you since you like to give the Fanny Farmer cookbook as gifts . . . you could perhaps keep a supply of them on hand for when you need to give one.

Kath, how about a lovely garden bench? Consider a rolling garden seat (for doing weeding, etc.). Gloves and a big garden hat (add a huge flower) and even an apron. A spiket or sprinkler is neat. Wind chimes. Door mat. Bird houses are great. Butterfly houses. Bat houses. A Field Guide is a wonderful idea. You can find one for their area and even find guides for identifying butterflies.

Oh, those boot cleaner things. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? They brush the mud off before you walk into the house...

That is the thing, but I was thinking of the cheaper big-box dept store ones. I may have to print these ideas out for shower / wedding gift ideas. So much better than a set of towels. The one I liked giving was the tri-pod to hold pots over a fire (and the attachable grill). We want one for ourselves and chose what we would get when they asked for a grill for a campfire.

Thank you all for the suggestions. Next time I'll know to think about places like linens and things to get something cool. I just never thought about it.

What do you feed your birds? We try to stick to the black seed, I think it's sunflower but it might be something else. Whenever Larry buys a mixed bag the stinkin' sparrows pick through it to eat what they want and scatter everything else on the ground.

Remember some birds only eat off the ground... I received an invitation yesterday for a baby shower tomorrow. Asking for an RSVP! Now, since I know that Deb's son's girlfriend is expecting and the invite had Deb's name for the return addy that Hanna must be the girlfriend. But, otherwise, I'd be clueless... I don't know if I am able to go or not. Seriously. I don't want to. We are picking DeeDee up at camp and she will be tired, but the family should have support from teh family. But, I'm not shopping today, so we will see what happens...

Poppa feels the same way about starlings... I'm going to the shower, but I'm not calling. It is at the park, and I wonder if they were waiting to see the forecast since there is no alternative site. I should hi-jack your thread - anyone with a great idea for a gift? Diapers Cereal and a bowl. My kids favorite foods (apricots and sweet taters) I hate the idea of teethers and such because they seem to need to be suited to the child and would rather let mom choose. My kids didn't use binkies or teethers or any 'soothy' things.

Nope - leaving now. DeeDee is two hours away... So, grab her and if she is up to it, stop on the way home. Other wise, leave early to shop. And, it is raining...

Because of very (VERY) low income, we have to buy the cheapest bird seed. I used to get the Songbird food for some perch feeders, Black oiled Sunflower for some and cheap seed for some tiny hanging feeders. I have 7 hanging feeders, one perch feeder and enough birdhouses for 13 'families'. I also have a squirrel feeder that holds corn.
