Grace-N-Mercy -> RE: How visual are you? (7/23/2008 9:08:12 AM)

Hey, guys! Sorry, I didn't mean to abandon y'all. Maybe I shouldn't bring up such complex subjects when my brain is already full of t-Tests and z-Tests and other such stuff! [:D] I guess what I'm trying to find out is just how visual y'all are and if it's the same as or separate from being visually attracted to a female. Finding females visually attractive is just a given... I want to know if it goes further than that. quote:
ORIGINAL: Blazingson The talent you described of being able to accurately envision an image in ones mind would, I believe, fall into the category of "individual talent" and is probably equally common among women as well as men. Perhaps! But that's why I'm asking... I want to see if this is something that goes along with being a guy or if it's just an individual talent. quote:
ORIGINAL: APZR I believe it was rayofson who once said: Pictures are worth a thousand words.... men have the pictures, women have the words. [:D] LOL! I like this! Tell me more about these pictures. quote:
ORIGINAL: 9drtr How complex do you want it? In less than a second I visualized three blue cups, two of them mine and now broken and one my grandmother's and very complex indeed. Awesome! quote:
ORIGINAL: jn1010lf Hello Grace-N-Mercy Guys are visually wired. For example, even when I'm in public with my wife, I automatically see every woman within eye shot. It doesn't mean that I ogle or lust. It's just that way. Let me give you another example. I used to attend a church with a contemporary praise and worship team. This one lady was very appropriately dressed. But when her body got with the beat of the song, certain parts moved more than others. A guy couldn't help but see. So ladies. Make sure you consider the signals you want to send out and dress accordingly. Does your wife understand that you automatically see every woman, and that you're not lusting when you look? I hope that when I get married, I will always understand, but with some of the married guys who have made me uncomfortable over the years...... quote:
ORIGINAL: 19ramman85 And one more thing - something that I really didn't see mentioned; The Sexual Desire! This is another thing that makes me wonder @ times- "why do I even bother to look", because for most of us guys- we look, but we aren't desiring to have sex w/ them either! -charles This is reassuring. [:D] Though I wonder if this is a difference between Christians and non-Christians? quote:
ORIGINAL: BlackCapnHarlock Men are enticed by what looks good. No matter what we say, we are attracted to a woman's body first and her outward appearance. That is the initial lust that sparks interest. Any man who tells you other wise is deceiving himself and not being honest. How does this change when you become married? Or does it? Does this mean that a woman must keep her body in shape after marriage to continue attracting her husband because she's afraid he's going to be attracted to someone else? quote:
ORIGINAL: colliefan In terms of thinking, I am very visual. In reading the gospels, I put myself into the story. When I am reading the epistles, such as the ones to Timothy, I imagine that Paul has written the letter to me. In terms of directions, I am better if someone shows me how it is done than provides written directions, In driving I need landmarks (turn by blue barn). In terms of beauty, the eyes are the killer. Collie, when you're reading the stories, do you visualize the whole scene when you're reading the gospels? This is something I do also, especially with reading Beth Moore's studies. She sets the scene, and has us visualize everything, including the dust on Jesus' feet. quote:
ORIGINAL: OneJohn410 Hey Grace-N-Mercy, Are you deserting us out here, or did you get your question answered? I've never heard 'Oh, well guys are just sooooo visual, y'know?" The way I SEE it from my dictionary, it means guys are capable of being seen by the eye, or visible. I'd say your ex-boyfriend was able to pause for an appropriate length of time, and then agree with most things you considered to be true. That's one of those things we easily pass off as something else- and no, it's not just common sense, and no, you don't have words for it in your 'genderese'. Being visual, for one thing, means being ready to answer any of a couple hundred questions we can be asked from the female next to us. If we hesitate too long to answer it, she'll think we didn't hear her. Or she'll think we are not being very attentive to the things that she pays attention to. That's right, I'm saying that it initially has nothing whatsoever to do with beauty, or what attracts us. Also, this is a strange world, and we have to be ready to be the man, and protect those with us. We might be scoping for potential threats to your and our own well-being while you are gazing at God's beautiful creation. We may be checking out that beautiful car (for just a second), before returning to study the butterfly you are watching. We are looking for friends, we are looking to see if it's two couples appoaching us, or four guys, two with shoulder length blonde or brown or red hair. Someone tells me she doesn't look good in purple. I'm sorry, but I don't play that game. I'd ask you who told you that, or I'd just say beholder, darlin', beholder makes that call. Then if I was really visual that moment, I might add baby, you look good in any color. OneJohn410 What made me use that example is this. I think he really did see things that visually... that he could "see" that I didn't look good in purple (he disagreed with me on other things, though and there were many other examples that made me wonder if he was gifted in this way or just more verbal than other guys about what he saw). I have a friend who has a similar personality to his and she is very gifted with memory... she can meet someone 12 years later and remember minute details (this is SCARY! [:D]) Now, I truly do not look good in purple though it is my favorite color. It's just that my coloring is all wrong and there are other colors that make me look fabulous (if I do say so myself!) Now see, I don't fall for "You look good in any color" [:)] Seriously! I DON'T look good in every color and feel that he is placating when he says that. If I ask that question and he doesn't want to answer honestly, the best answer would be "I think you look better in this other color". quote:
ORIGINAL: makarizo I am very visual. I can close my eyes and see chord structures, and then later on go to the piano and play them. I can look at a work station that the person before me basically destroyed, and visualize .... and proceed to make it the best spot in the building. I can see the number 24 and an X and the number 13, and the number 312 just pops up outta nowhere. Now that's cool! My grandfather was the same way with math. He just "knew" the answers to things. We would try him, and he was right. [:D] quote:
ORIGINAL: DaveW BTW - did the OP abandon us? As to the whole "attraction" thing, I have this strange ability to see some small blip of movement on the horizon, or some shadow moving in the dark of night, and tell she is a woman before I can really see if it is even human. If it is a man or a dog or a cat or groundhog, I can't tell what it is unless I get much closer. If it is a woman, I can tell from a very long way away. I may not be able to tell if she is 8 or 80, but something registers as human female. It weirds me out sometimes. Kinda scary, huh? [:D] Glad to know that at least we're on your radar. [:D] It seems as though not everyone defines "visual" in quite the same way and that in many ways, guys & gals are the same in their abilities. We ladies know that you guys are "visual" meaning you will automatically look when you see a woman... that you're just "wired" that way moreso than women are. That's where I assumed it stopped, and that women see the details of the cup, or could visualize different colors and whether they "matched" or not. It's time for me to get back to Statistics... I wonder if there are any statistics on how visual you guys are? [:)]
