I was wondering there for a moment because of your blog address and for a moment I thought it was someone I knew here.

What a day! We picked up Mai yesterday (drove 2 1/2 hours each way to do it!) and she's here. Yay!

Tip for anyone else considering a foreign exchange student: Babel Fish. Sometimes the translations are goofy, but it's way better than babbling on in a language your students doesn't understand.

Jen, praying that things work out with the job, and with getting everywhere you need to be today.

My cars are conspiring against me. There's no other explanation for it.

I start out for work in my car, and as soon as I get it over 50 mph it starts sounding like it's gonna rattle apart. So I turn myself around and go get the other car. I'm driving along, minding my own business, when it starts squirting antifreeze from somewhere. It's a real slow leak (I'm thinking pressure cap, 'cause the green stuff is on the top of the radiator), so I stopped a couple of times to top it off and just came on in to work.

I am almost afraid to go home and try to start the truck.

Praying about the job, Jen.

Jesse is going to be Moses in the kids' play this Sunday. This will be his last one, since he moves up to youth group in August. He is bumming a bit because he really enjoys doing these plays. I think I am going to see if there's a theater group that we might be able to get him into. For now, we have to deal with the beard that keeps migrating up Moses' face.

I have been blessed by being able to go to a pool that has shade this week and learned some more things about the people who left.

They are still bad mouthing us to other churches in the area and they did not just think our rabbi acted inappropriately, but they think he has an actual behavioral disorder. None of the former elders are doctors so I do not know how they came up with that assessment, but they convinced themselves it's true.

When we left our last place we left on excellent terms-their pastor and his wife like our rabbi and his wife immensely. The folks that split are looking for a bigger place to rent. Guess where?

That's right, the place we all were when they decided to leave. Now I realize that part of it is for practical reasons, but given their past behavior, I also feel that part of the reason they want to be there is to see if they can poison our relationship with that church. That would be an added benefit to them.

Supposedly the reason why the double minded couple decided to remain with the other congregation was because people here were distant, cold and unfriendly. I know for a fact this was not true since I made an effort to speak with the wife of that couple every time they attended.

The wife is good friends with our tam leader and told her the above. This made our tam leader upset with our congregation as a whole.

Our tam leader had a store and the woman who worked with her in the store said she noticed a change in our tam leader and that she seems distant now. These past two weeks the tam leader and the double minded couple are on vacation-they take this trip every summer. So it remains to be seen whether our tam leader will return to our congregation for good or attend the other place.

LOL, I am not sure if I should point out that you misspelled 'competency'

I do sometimes wonder, except in general, I think they are simply not organized enough to give fair warning! In any case, I figure since I actually did get my resume turned in on time, I have a leg up on those people who weren't able to.

Oh, and thank you all for praying, and I got everywhere I needed to get. I'm all worn out now, though!

I'm glad you got all your stuff done, Jen. Still praying you get the job and that certain attitudes get adjusted.

Jen - praying for the job situation!! Glad you got everywhere you needed to go! Praying you got some rest last night!

Annie - nice pictures! It looks like you had a fun camping trip (sometimes the "disasters" are the best part)!

Cindy - praying for your vehicles & Moses' beard! I am very excited because dd was struggling with having to move up to youth, but they have now decided to keep 5th grade in with the kids!!! I thought it was TOO young when they started doing 5th & 6th grade with the Jr. High! They would break off for lessons etc.. but there IS a vast difference between a 5th grader & an 8th grader!

We have our last tour today! It's about 1 1/2 hours away, so we are meeting at a parking lot to make sure all the "unaccompanied" boys have a ride. It should be a fun tour! I'll be glad when the part that I'm in charge of is over!! A leaves tomorrow morning & the dog we are watching leaves either tomorrow night or Sunday. It'll be nice to get back to normal - even though I'll miss both of them!! Better go get my shower now! Hope everyone has a good day!

Zoe,

We were told that she knows no English, but she is actually getting long rather well. Well, rather well considering our expectations were so low. But I'm pretty good at charades, and we have Babel Fish on the computer when we're home and dd is getting excellent practice at her Japanese!

Cindy, I think you should separate the cars, you know, make it more difficult for them to communicate and so foil their evil plans...

Seriously though, I will be praying for your transportation trials. I hate those kinds of trials!

Ellie-Mae, It sounds like you and Rebekah are both feeling/sleeping better? I mean it takes a sharp mind to come up with a competency test on the fly like that.

Narnia,

Sorry to hear that the whisper campaign is on-going...

Amy,

Enjoy your quieter-than-usual day!

And blessings to everyone else too!

Shadow: that is really odd. How is she supposed to attend American schools? My father "works" for an agency that places exchange students and they have to pass an English proficiency test to come. This summer and last summer I am going to be spending 2 weeks tutoring one child that didn't pass with a high enough school. Last year he wasn't too bad.

Zoe,

It's only a summer exchange. In Japan they only get 6 weeks off for the summer. She spent one week preparing to come to the US. She is with us for 4 weeks only. When she gets back to Japan she will have 1 week before her school starts.

Here is a picture of Mai.

This weekend is the church's men's rafting trip. Dh has gone several years. Ds1 joined him two years ago. THis was to be ds2's year to go. He said yes, he wanted to go, was looking forward to getting away with the guys, etc. So today's the day. Dh downloaded the packing list, only to discover tht the bus was leaving at 11:00, not 12:00. Somehow, this is my fault?! Of course, dh sees this at 10:30 so it's a mad dash to pack and get to the church. Ds2 suddenly decides he's not going. Dh blew up. Ds2 dug in his heels. Dh and ds1 left without him. So I'm left with a very contrary 13yo... Lovely.

Was the pressure of having to pack and leave too quickly just too much for DS2?

No. I had his clothes packed. Two black t-shirts, pair of jean shorts, socks& underwear. Not a clue. Ds1 was even begging ds2 to go. They told ds2 he didn't even have to go in the same raft.

His,

I am praying that he realizes that he is not punishing his father and brother but himself (and you with his attitude).

Narnia,

Sorry things are so BLAH with the congregational split. Right now our leaving our church has stirred up some stuff but at present NONE of it is being whispered. I was really expecting more phone calls than I have gotten. but then that is an answer to prayer because I did not feel like explaining myself over and over and over ya know.

The young soldier in the new church that is going to Iraq- he is not on the same track as Jerry. Jerry said he was going with an infantry unit and that they very likely would never cross paths. We can still pray for him. He is unsaved and needs a man og god to pull him under his wing and keep him safe.

I think I missed something. Exactly what was it that upset DS2 and made him not want to go in the first place?

Well, Brandon is grounded. Yesterday he was VERY late getting back from swim team. I had told him he could walk his friend home but he was later than he should have been, and when I called him, I heard a lot of beeping, which did not make sense to me, so I told him to get his bottom home. When he got here, he said that they had gotten out of swim team practice late and he also explained the phone thing. I believed him and let him continue with his plans for the day.

Today, at 9 (swim team gets out at EIGHT) when he was still not home, I called him and he said that he hadn't had time to come home after walking his friend home because they got out of swim team late again. Well, I called my stepmom (remember my sister is on the team) and she said that both yesterday and today they had gotten on ON TIME.

He refuses to tell me why he was late and keeps insisting that I have it all wrong. Nice try, buddy, but I have been pushed too far!

Grace has 16 jelly beans in her pocket. She has 8 red, 4 green, and 4 blue. What is the minimum number of jellybeans she must take out of her pocket to ensure she has one of each color?

a) 4
b)8
c)12
d)13
e)16
f) if Grace were a smart girl (we know she isn't because she stores her jellybeans in her pocket) she would have left the jellybeans in the box/bag so that she could see what color the jellybeans were.

Sorry- Trill is doing the Accuplacer practice test and is having some issues with the LOGIC behind the questions.

Jennifer--who knows. Phase of the moon? Alighnement of the stars? I mean, what sets your son off? What ticks me off is that we're out that $100. Ds2 said he'd pay it but he has no money. No chores=no allowance. Honestly I dont' know what to do with this kid.

Dang it, His, leave my cars alone!

Ya know, we could take Brandon and ds2 and lock them both in a room together. They could sit there and commiserate about how awful their lives are, how rotten their moms are, and how the world in general is out to get them. They might be in there forever, but at least Jen and His would get a break. We could even set up a cast iron frying pan to periodically drop out of the ceiling and beat them.

We are having issues here with getting dishes done. Erin is the problem child, as usual. She hates to do dishes, so tends to "forget" that it's her turn. Trouble with that is that if you don't do them on your day, you're automatically on them the next day. Not only does that give you twice as many dishes to do, but the sibling who follows you in the cycle gets the day off. You'd think that would be enough incentive to get the stinkin' things done, but no, there is a boatload of dishes from yesterday sitting in the sink . . . and on the counters . . . and on the table . . . and just about everywhere but the floor, which would probably have dishes on it if she had the slightest thought she could get away with it. She is going to be on dishes until she is 25 at the rate she's going.

Brandon just walked.

I honestly sat down and tried to listen to his complaints, but they were all baloney. He said I told him he couldn't do the Columbia Crossing...really? Then why have I emailed Grandma asking for ideas on training? He was mad I bought a cheese grater two years ago. He said I didn't pay enough attention to know what his hobbies were. I asked him which hobbies those were, but he couldn't list any. He was mad that he couldn't join the Channel Cats team because I can't drive him all over the northwest to meets...and said if I would let him get his driver's license when he turned 16 he'd be able to. Really? That isn't for another year, and you would still need a car and insurance and gas money! He said we treat him like a servant. Apparently chores=servitude? He said we walked all over him. Oh, is that what it's called when one person in the family gets the lion's share of time, energy and finances so he can do all sorts of fun things while his brother sits at home with nowhere to go and his mother works her rear end off?

Honestly, things that come out of his mouth are so NOT based in reality. I really wonder about him. How can he twist things the way he does? Why do people believe him?

Well, pray for his safety. He didn't take his phone and I have no idea where he is going. Probably to that girl's house but who knows how accomodating her parents will be.
