I have noticed as a general rule that threads do indeed disappear after 365 days of the last posting, but every once in a while a thread does escape the eraser though.

Well, page 2 vs page 32 - BIG difference. And it's still an active thread. What I'm talking about are those that haven't had a legitimate post in many months, and then someone goes in and says something nonsensical to get it back to the top - because they don't want to lose their posts.
