ORIGINAL: peculiar_lady2 although I liked the idea of teaching through living it out, one thing I do not agree with is their pushing of this idea on young adults that kids are not a good thing to have or that they are a burden. On younger teens, yes I agree...but on young adults who happen to still be teens (adults, in college, away from home, etc)? NO...I do not agree with it. I think that the show is about that working with children isn't all fun and games. Of course, there's going to be really happy moments. But theres gonna be a lot of downsides as well. Most of these teen couples thought it would be easy when they first started, because the babies were "cute" and they thought it was going to be easy. It's a reality check. Taking care of children is hard work. But it's all worth it. But I believe this show is just a BIG reality check to the teens.

I think the idea of allowing teens real time experiences is a good one, although the show was not very realistic. For example, how many teens would live in a hundred thousand dollar plus home and drive a brand new car on a minimum wage job, while caring for a baby/child/tween/teen/elder? Not all teens can have it that lucky or fortunate. I disagreed with showing the teens cohabitating/sleeping together, because so many people watch and are influenced by the media, I think that it sent a bad mixxed message.

But I believe this show is just a BIG reality check to the teens. yes taking care of babies/kids might be ahrd at times, but honestly, it has never been THAT hard for me. In this setting they were dealing with other people's kids. Even though I am a mom of five, I still don't want to or like dealing with other people's kids....I like my own. The participants had no time to mentally prepare for the babies....just one day they were pregnant and the next day they had a baby....not a newborn either...some of those babies were nearly a year old, some already eating table food, some crawling everywhere. There's a reason god designed this process to take a while...and there's a reason newborn babies don't do much beyond eating, sleeping, and pooping (and wanting to be held all the time). It's a process that grows with you. I get comments all the time from people that they couldn't handle having five kids, but it's not like God dropped all of them down on us all at once....we have grown and changed with our family through the years. These young adults didn't get the time to do that in this type of scenario. Like I said...I don't like the message that it seems to send to YOUNG ADULTS that having kids is bad....I don't agree!!!! For younger teens that aren't adult age yet, yes I completely agree that it needs to be done (and some school programs show this through those "babies" the schools send home with the kids for a few weeks). I just don't think the age they are hitting with this show is what I agree with. Yes these might still be teens, but they are ADULT teens.....nearly 20's or already 20's. anyway, no one has to agree with me on this, it's just my take on the whole thing. I enjoyed watching the show every week, but I don't like some of the messages that were sent with it (including the sleeping together one, or the non-reality pay and house, etc)

I agree with you Sarah!! I was 19 (almost 20) when I got married and I got pregnant right after my 21st birthday. Our 2 year anniversary is tomorrow, I will be 22 on Sept 2, and I have a wonderful 7 week old son. I am a young adult mom and I love it!! We could have waited until we were older to get married and have kids. Maybe then we would have had our student loans paid off, nicer cars (or at least cars that work) and more money so Chris would have to work such long hours, but I am so in love with my husband, my little boy is a joy, and I am HAPPY!! The teens on this show were given nice cars, huge houses, and easy jobs. That is not reality. Because they aren't really parents they didn't have to go through 9 months of pregnancy (with morning sickness, back pain, and all of the other things that can come with it,) labor, sleepless nights with a newborn, or any of that tough stuff. But, they also didn't get to experience holding their baby for the first time and feeling that indescribable love or seeing their baby smile at them and knowing that their baby depends on them, trusts them, loves them more than anyone else in the world. Being a parent can be hard sometimes, and I know I am still a new mom and have a lot more hard times to come, but it is such an incredible experience. Having kids is not a bad thing, it is a blessing!!

About the "follow-up" ... I'm not really surprised that none of the couples stayed together ... you could see how strained the relationships were becoming over the course of the show. I did cry, however, when I saw that the one elderly lady had died (the wife of the cycling photographer)

I was simply offering my opinion! But I agree with that whole statement! Having kids isn't bad and I know the show portrayed it as that. And that's pretty awesome that you have 5 kids! How old are they??

When you take a hard look at the couples chosen for this series, it seemed well focused on upper middle class young people that seem to have everything & still have the idea (well, the girls) that they could do kids too & obviously had no concept of it at all. I honestly hope no one had the idea in making this show that it was a generalized view of teens today around the country because it is not true. I know many that do fit this mold but, it certainly is not all of them. kd

I thought it was supposed to be live. The only thing live was the write-ins on the Internet, well maybe. It was quite disappointing. Way too fast. kd

I agree, they did too much in one hour. And I missed last week because I was camping, and I thought there would be the re-run last night. :( I love old people. Bummer. In the end, I still think that it pushes kids toward abortions. It shows how much work it is, so when they do get pregnant, they will just abort. Because it is too much work. They should have focused on the value of life too, not just how hard it is. I could not believe that girl was 13 when she got pregnant, and thought she was going to go so far with a high school diploma. And were were the teenage Dads in all of this drama?
