That is adorable Rachel! I'm a big fan of french seams for keeping edges tucked in and keeping fabric from fraying. First you sew the edges with WRONG sides together, then turn it inside out and sew along the same seam with the fabric right sides together. Even though you sew the seam twice, it doesn't really take much extra time. Here is a link with just about every seam finish you can imagine, and great pictures and directions.
