OH WISE COUNSELOR KERRLAW,

My relationship with George is just not doing well. He's been in my pantry since Christmas, lonely I'm sure, wondering why I am not attracted to him.

He's just not doing it for me.

He doesn't even come to my thoughts.

Every evening as I prepare meals for the family, George is far from my mind.

Just what am I supposed to cook in Mr. George, anyway???? Do you have a Mr. George?

Here's the story. My in-laws gave us a George Foreman many years ago. I'm not interested in keeping items I have no need for, so we returned it to the store.

About a year later, my FIL asked me if we had a George. I said we did , you gave it to us, but we returned it.

The in-laws must have forgotten this, because this last Christmas they gave us another George. This time, out of guilt, we thought we should probably keep it. I wanted to return it, but golly, it just seems so rude to return a gift a second time.

I've only used George once. The instructions said something about grilling sandwiches, so I grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch one day. They came out as squished cheese patties. Not appetizing at all. My family was not impressed. (I don't even like cheese sandwiches. ) I probably did something wrong, though, because I can't imagine anyone would like squished patty sandwiches.

So maybe I should give George another chance.

If so, I have amazed myself once again.

(And I'm glad that you feel comfortable here)

You are absolutely right! That is his name. You are good!

How you and Phosey both got that from the little clue I left, I just don't know. Maybe the glass thing helped.

To be honest, he's the only glass artist I know - and he's from Seattle so he's a "local". Oh, and while we're being honest, I did have to do a quick google search. I knew who you were talking about but I couldn't remember his exact name/spelling...

Cranky! I LOVE George!

I don't think you've put enough effort into this relationship. Give him another chance.

Returning a gift a second time makes me laugh! I wouldn't have the guts to return it the first time because I'd just KNOW they'd ask about it.

cranky - George is wonderful! I'll admit that I've only grilled hamburgers, but they are the easiest hamburgers ever. The only downside is that when my hamburger is done, I have to immediately clean up the grease because Miss Phoebe like to eat the grease then throw-up for the next hour all over the house...

We use ours for burgers, Steaks, hot dogs and I imagine if one were inclined it would be great for grilling Spam.

How does he do fish?

What do you do, CoeurdeLeon? Exactly how do you cook your fish in Mr. George?

If'n ya don't wanna keep George, you could always "regift" him... I know of a nice family in NC that would take George off your hands... and that way you didn't return it.

Question, please, for all you Georgers out there . . . are those grills teflon-coated?

Thank you for your brief answer!

Actually, it's quite interesting. Will you keep updates in your other thread?
In my toy thread?

Yes, I probably will . . . I've had a couple of other people ask me similar questions.

Oh, and btw, brevity is my friend . . . my very secret friend.

This is the one I have. I use the regular grill plates, spray them with a little non-stick spray (I know they're non-stick already, I do it anyway ) I preheat it, season my fish and slap 'em right on the plates. Takes a coupla minutes.

I've done tilapia and salmon. I agree that he does squish sandwiches but they're still pretty good. I've made super delicious omelets with the baking plate.

Yep. On mine they are also removable and dishwasher safe. I've never put them in the dishwasher though. I do spray mine anyway because non-oily foods can stick sometimes.

Thanks, Sam and Lioness!

I don't use non-stick cooking items; so if I ever get a Foreman grill, I'll either send it to James, Sam or Lioness (but definitely not Cranky).

Mine looks more like this.

It's a higher model number, though. (funny how the numbers are like bra sizes)

So you season the fish, put it on there, and how do you know the fish is cooked all the way through correctly? Is the fish good? Dry? Moist? (I don't really like to eat fish anyway. Does it remove the fish taste? )

Hamburgers--I usually just grill them in summer outside, or I cook them on our griddle in the kitchen in winter. It just doesn't occur to me to use the George.

How about steak--cutie man, how do you cook your steak on Mr. George?

I use Todd English Green Pans, too...
talk about easy clean-up !!

*teflon is supposedly okay unless you use really high temperatures and not worn or sratched up because cooks used incorrect utentsils and/or cooking methods*

I guesstimate and lift the lid and check it. Flaky and opaque? Done! Still tastes like fish, though.
Not dry but not as "wet" as I often think baked is.

Pretty much like I was going to grill it outside. Marinade it, let it get to room temp and place it on the George Foreman. Don't even have to turn it. It does cook much faster than a conventional grill so you have to watch it closely of it will get to done.

I don't know about anyone else, but "wet" fish just doesn't sound very appetizing to me!
