stellaluna -> Snow Cone/Shaved Ice Challenge (6/6/2008 5:04:01 PM)

In honor of the summer, I say we all challenge ourselves to try as many flavors of snow cones and/or shaved ice as possible.

My husband and I have been eating snow cones like crazy during the past few days of heat wave, so I'll start. So far I've eaten:

* daiquiri
* tiger's blood
* Hawaiian
* sour cherry

I think I liked the daiquiri best so far. Anyone else?

There is a little business in my area called Sno Biz that sells shaved ice. They have flavors that I would never even think to put on ice but they are good. My favorite is strawberry and cream.

The only place I can get it around here is at fairs or the boardwalk. The fairs are usually limited to lemon, cherry, and blue. The boardwalk is for tourists until Labor Day. We have lots of Italian Ice places here.

ETA: This is my favorite. It just happens to be the turnaround point on my bicycle route along the oceanfront. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

My favorite at our little snow cone stand here in town is Purple Rain. Its grape and coconut. YUMMY! I also like Strawberry Daquiri. I'm boring, I usually stick to what I know![8D]

Much to my dismay, I've discovered there are no snowcones here. [sm=crystreams.gif][sm=icon_smile_faint.gif][sm=popsigh.gif]

My favorites are half coconut-half banana, wedding cake, and dreamcicle. So have one of those for me, ok? [:(]

No snow cone stand? I think you can get one of those Snoopy ones for about $15. [:D]

Tonight I had blue coconut. Now my mouth is blue. [&:]

I love snow cones! Before the summer's over, I'll attempt to get something other than my beloved Black Cherry, but I can't commit to any promises. [;)]

They sell snow cones at my work to raise money for the annual company picnic. So far I've had blue raspberry and strawberry.

Miss Giggles -> RE: Snow Cone/Shaved Ice Challenge (6/9/2008 9:41:38 PM)

Umm, my sister had a snoopy snow cone machine, they are a lot of work for that little bit of ice. [:D]

stellaluna -> RE: Snow Cone/Shaved Ice Challenge (6/13/2008 11:11:17 PM)

I had a peach snow cone tonight. It was yummy!

Kat_D -> RE: Snow Cone/Shaved Ice Challenge (6/13/2008 11:41:39 PM)

While at the San Diego Zoo on Wednesday, I thought of this thread and we got Snow Cones. My friend and I had Cherry (I know...boring, but it's my favorite) and her little boys had Bubblegum flavor!

stellaluna -> RE: Snow Cone/Shaved Ice Challenge (6/15/2008 7:47:55 PM)

My husband had a toxic waste snow cone a couple of days ago that was bubblegum flavored and...something else we couldn't figure out. He liked it, but I thought it was gross. (It was blue and green with some yellow jelly stuff on top. [:'(]

I had a strawberry daiquiri on Friday and pina colada today. [:)]

Grace-N-Mercy -> RE: Snow Cone/Shaved Ice Challenge (6/16/2008 12:46:08 AM)

OOh, snow cones!! My son and I used to get these all the time, but I can't find a stand anywhere nearby. I can try to crush some ice in the blender, but I don't have any cool flavors. Guess I'll just have to search out a stand somewhere.

stellaluna -> RE: Snow Cone/Shaved Ice Challenge (6/23/2008 9:30:24 AM)

We found two more stands over the weekend, but didn't try them. I think some supermarkets sell snow cone syrup for making them at home.

I had a pineapple snow cone on Saturday and it was delicious! I might have to get that flavor again...

stellaluna -> RE: Snow Cone/Shaved Ice Challenge (6/27/2008 8:07:49 PM)

Last night I had a cherry lime snow cone and it was fab...although some lime-y parts were a bit sour. [sm=sidesmile.gif]

stellaluna -> RE: Snow Cone/Shaved Ice Challenge (7/1/2008 4:14:08 PM)

I finally found a flavor I don't like: watermelon. It sounded so good...but it was so...not. [:'(]

furrypurrykitty -> RE: Snow Cone/Shaved Ice Challenge (7/1/2008 9:58:27 PM)

I went to Goodwill over the weekend and found a snow cone maker for $2! It works perfectly and just needed a little cleaning up. I went to Wal-Mart and got a couple of bottles of the syrup (cherry and tangerine) and saw the identical machine there for about $25, so I am feeling pleased about finding such a bargain. I took the machine and syrups to a friend's for a cookout Saturday, and people seemed to enjoy the snow cones, especially since the day was rather warm.

stellaluna -> RE: Snow Cone/Shaved Ice Challenge (7/2/2008 12:36:05 PM)

That sounds awesome! We'll be over this evening. [:D]

furrypurrykitty -> RE: Snow Cone/Shaved Ice Challenge (7/2/2008 11:57:39 PM)

OK...bring some blue raspberry syrup, wouldja please? [;)]

SweetLittleErin -> RE: Snow Cone/Shaved Ice Challenge (7/3/2008 11:51:22 AM)

Last night I ventured out of my "comfort zone" and tried a new flavor. Lemon Ice Box Pie...it had a cream flavoring along with the lemon. I wasnt impressed, the cream had little to no flavor, and the lemon wasnt very lemony. But now I know....

stellaluna -> RE: Snow Cone/Shaved Ice Challenge (7/20/2008 11:13:48 AM)

I had cherry cola last night and even though the brown color worried me, it tasted really good. [:)]

Sophie11 -> RE: Snow Cone/Shaved Ice Challenge (7/21/2008 5:11:34 PM)

Wow, I never knew there were so many flavors of snow cones! I need to look around more! I have one of those small snow cone makers you get from Wal-Mart but the only flavors I've found are your average cherry, strawberry, lime, blue raspberry etc. I did find a peach one though and it is my favorite so far!
