I'm debating doing South Beach again. I tried it when Jacob was 2 months old, but it was too soon into our nursing relationship. I seriously almost fainted during the middle of the night from the lack of carbs after only the 2nd day. Now that he's 6 months old, I'm debating about trying again.

Stacy, try Robert Ullrey's podcasts, I like his music a lot. I have listened to the indie tracks and didn't really like them. Do you know where to find all the other podcasts? They're on the C25 K website.

I do know where to get them, thanks. Just haven't done it yet. The only other hitch is that I need actual mp3's since I don't have a real ipod. I've thought about making my own too- DH has some video/audio editing software that would probably make it easy to create a track and just insert myself saying "walk now" "run now".

ha ha ... I found a site to give me sound effects for walk vs run sound. Chime Up and Chime Down.

I finished my first playlist. but I didn't have my ipod at work to put it on it. So now I'm gonna see if I have the same music on my home computer and can re-create it.

There are podcast for actual ipods, and mp3s for standard mp3 players, just on the C25K website, they both look like one link. Make sure you click where it says mp3 and you should get there. I got confused at first there too.

I did the Adkins (sp) Diet in 2004. I lost 60lbs total while on it. Then I got prego with my dd and gained it all back. My cycles are all messed up when I am heavy, so loosing weight was the only way I could get prego. I want to start dieting again because I would like another child but my will power is low right now. I know I can do it. I just have to commit myself!!!

It is hard too when hubby loves food and loves to cook!!!

Robin - if you did well on Atkins you should check out South Beach. It's a similar yet healthier version of the diet.

I just got two new toys/tools today. They're really for my birthday in Sept, but I started using them already. One is a heart rate monitor so I can gauge how hard I'm working, and the other is a special measuring tape that will make it easier for me to measure myself.

I know I pushed myself a lot harder during my workout because of the monitor. It's a Timex and I was able to set it for 5 different zones. I spent most of my time in middle/aerobic zone, zone 3, but I did get into zone 4, threshold, several different times. Zone 4 is set to be 80%-90% of my maximum rate.

Does anyone else use a monitor? I've seen formulas to figure your maximum rate based on age, but Timex had me do exercises and figure it that way. That came out to a higher rate than the age calculation did. I split the difference between the two.

I've used heart rate monitors for years. I'm so used to them that I get all bent out of shape if I get to the gym w/o mine, esp spin class.

Sounds good, remember heart rate ranges are an estimate but usually close enough to get a good handle on it. Keeping a log helps too.

I want a heart rate monitor. I think that, and a GPS/Pedometer, are going on my Christmas list.

On the Weight Watcher's board, almost everyone uses Polar monitors. They were more expensive than the Timex, and the ones in my price range required you to send them in to have the battery changed. Plus, I liked the look of the Timex. I counted my heart rate myself a couple of times and it was right where it should be.

I have a polar one too. Yes you do have to have the watch battery sent in but they last for several years without it starting to go low. The garmin's for outdoors, the polar I use inside.

I stepped on the scale this morning for a midweek "reality check" and it hadn't budged from Sunday. AF should be coming any day now and I've added in a serving of whole grains once a day this week, so I'm trying to figure out which has me stalled out. Should I stick with the whole grains until after AF passes or should I go ahead and cut them down.

Another question. With all the extra veggies and extra fiber in my diet I've been having some... um... well... gas issues. Any advice on how to cut down on that problem but still get enough fiber to keep things "moving?"

I don't believe you should cut whole grains unless you have a medical reason to do so.

The only reason I say that is because there is a new trend of many people jumping on a gluten free / no grains diet because they have heard it's healthier.

Did you try yogurt or activia? It helps a little. Lots of water is supposed to help too. I bought some digestive enzymes but I haven't taken them too long to notice a difference.

Someone recommended to me a product called Digestive Advantage. It seems to help. The box says you have to take it every day, but I just take it a couple of times a week.

I've had gas issues my whole adult life, so I don't know how to help there. Sorry.

Keep at it, and wait until AF comes. I bet she makes things better. I typically gain 3-5 lbs when getting ready to start.

I stopped having gas problems when I started eating fruits and veggies. I don't believe a fiber or vitamin suppliment is wise, so I intentionally eat loads of veggies and a few fruits each day. Because of the fruits and veggies, I "go" 2-3x per day and that's how I got the gas to stop.

You can cut out whole grains if you want as long as you are getting proper nutrients and calories. It won't hurt your body.

I'd wait till AF is finished before cutting out the whole grains, though, if you want to cut them. You won't have an accurate picture of what's going on with the whole grains if you"experiment" while AF is in the works.

Veggies and Fruits help me too, it's actually the only way I can not have the gas problem... Oh, and I can't eat tons of popcorn.

oy, look how far this thread has fallen!!

How is everyone doing? Still doing C25k??

I was considering registering for a 5K run in November....to have a goal to work towards.
I was reading on the website

quote:

Included in $25 Fee:

* Chip Timing of all events
* Pasta Dinner and Expo on Saturday
* Water and first aid on course
* Post Race refreshments and awards
* Long sleeve technical T-shirt guaranteed for the first 1200 registrants, cotton T-shirts available for all other participants.
* Medals to Marathon and Half Marathon finishers
* Showers available on site
* Post event massage

When I saw the last item, there was no question...I'm going for it!!! LOL

I did my weights on Sunday, took yesterday off and I am doing lower body tonight (squats and lunges). If I have time to do a short cardio session (obviously before the lunges and squats) then I'll do that too.

I weighed myself but I know not to expect any changes in scale weight for at least 8-12 weeks with weight training.

That's a cool 5k! Usually you just get a tshirt and maybe a bagel or donuts. I am cleaning out the fridge/freezer too.

I'm trying not to be discouraged now. On official weigh in day, I was down .75 pounds but yesterday I was back up that .75. I just have to remind myself that AF is here and it's going to wreak havoc with my system for a week or two. I've never really followed my weight closely enough to take note of how AF affects me, so this is definitely a learning experience for me.

I was thinking this thread needed to be moved up as well.

I ran my week 6 run 3 last night. I couldn't do it. I got so discouraged I didn't even finish the thing. I'll try again tomorrow night.
I keep telling myself that I'm doing so much better than I was 2 months ago when I could barely run for 2 min at a time. And I'm still getting my 20 minutes of cardio, even if it's not a full run. I'm not one who really wants to go run a marathon, or even do a 5 or 10k, but I do want to be able to get out of the house and go running for 15-20 min to get my heartrate up. And THAT ... I've accomplished.

So I feel good about myself.

My eating is OK. I'm trying something new this week. I bought some Cliff bars to eat on my way home from work. Give me some protein in the afternoon ... just enough to get through the run until dinner time. And that way I won't be so tempted to run to the vending machine at work if I know I have something to eat on the way home.

TMI paragraph that I have to get off my chest....
Let me tell you, not having a BM really changes your weight. I believe I suffer from IBS and am trying to find the trigger foods. Well, with that IBS comes constipation sometimes. I didn't have a BM for 3 days last week and I was so annoyed when my scale was 3 lbs higher yesterday morning. I finally had mine yesterday and this morning I was back down where I need to be. phew!!!

Anyway. Probably TMI.

You aren't the only one that has the tmi problem. Gave up the pop (again) , most of the junk food and will make it a priority to try to cook stuff. Its so hard to figure out what the problem is because of all the different ingredients and different names for things. Those diet foods are the absolute worst with all the artificial sugars - most of those causing bloating for many people. it could be wheat, corn, artificial sugars, low fiber, milk and those ingredients are in almost everything they sell.
