WTG, Sue!

I'll be catching you soon! I can't wait to get back into "one-derland." On that note, Day Four of SB Phase One went very well. I was pleased this morning to discover that my cravings are starting to shift. I was heading to the grocery store to pick up a few things for work and this weekend. Instead of thinking of picking up a candy bar to munch on, I was suddenly struck by the idea of making my own "Cucumber sandwiches." I thought that it would be sooooo yummy to slice some cucumber, spread on some Laughing Cow cheese and sandwich it together. Now I can't wait for snack time to try it!

That's great, Kat. I'm finding that sweets don't taste as good to me either. We always keep a chocolate stash and I told hubby he's going to have to tell me when to buy more because I don't even look at it now.

My "treats" are spicy dishes. Since hubby can't eat peppers and spicy foods, I'm fixing dishes up to a certain point and then splitting some off for me to jazz up. I've also found that I can't eat as much at one sitting. I try to pay attention to my body and, when I feel comfortably full, I put the food away. I'll finish the meal later as a snack if I get hungry.

You ladies rock. I'm not doing so hot this week. We had company over Tuesday and Ryan made country fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy. We've been eating left overs all week. This whole moving into new house (no money left) transition phase is a little harder than I thought.

I've made it one week without a binge!!!

As a result, I'm down five pounds too!
This whole South Beach thing is much easier than I thought it would be. Next Monday, I get to start adding back healthy carbs and I'm not counting the minutes like I thought I would be. I've already got a plan too. I'm going to add an apple with cheese as an afternoon snack and then some sugar-free, fat-free pudding as a snack in the evening. If I still lose after a week of that, I'll add a couple of servings of whole grain bread or pasta a week the following week.

Ugh I need to get disciplined. None of my interview clothes fit. I am hoping not to have to wear any of them but now I have a whole closet full of nice clothes I need to get back into. I thought I'd have at least a year before I decided to go on any. Oh yeah I need to eat cheap but healthy too.

Congrats, Kat and Sue! I wish I had some good news to share. I GAINED 1 1/2 lbs., putting me back over the 200 lb. mark. I'm still having trouble with the carbs and this past weekend didn't help much either. We celebrated someone's birthday and I had cake and sugar free ice cream for two days in a row. I didn't even bother to track it on sparkpeople.

Well, I'm back on track and going to stay low carb the rest of this week if it's God's will and if I can do it. I'm tired of the sluggish and depressive feelings I get from eating too many carbs ans it's time to quit doing it. Yesterday, in my motivational book, I read that I should SLOWLY eat the first two bites of a comfort food, then give or throw the rest away, since most of the flavor sensation is in those first two bites. The book said that generally a person doesn't enjoy eating the food after the first two bites, instead, it makes them feel worse.

I think that's a good plan, Melissa. I'm thinking that just two bites might not trigger the same insulin response either. That's where I get into trouble. If I eat a serving of something that's high in certain kinds of carbs, I end up feeling like I need to binge in about an hour. Eating small amounts, making sure I balance carbs with protein, and adding extra fiber seem to help keep me on a more even keel.

And eating slowly helps savor the flavor (ooh .. sounds like the name of a cookbook) and when your body is receiving foods in slow amounts, you get satiated on less.

Actually, that would be a great cookbook. All recipies to make just a couple of bites of your favorite goodies!

Really flavorful foods. Not just diet foods, but foods with oomph to them so you don't need to eat a bunch.

Maybe the CW Ladies should all get together and create a cookbook.

Great idea!

The Two-Bite Brownie:

Sneak a corner off a piece of a lucious chocolate frosted fudge brownie and inhale it's aroma as you savor it SLOWLY!

Am I mean or what?

Start looking up recipes for ethnic foods- especially Indian and Middle Eastern. The flavors are so good and strong that the food is much more satisfying.

no thanks Stacy. I can't do Indian/Middle EAstern foods. I really don't like curry. I've tried multiple times, but just can't handle it.

I'm going to start back on weights again and do the spin class twice a week. Then I can be flexible on the other days.

My goggles broke so hopefully I remember to buy some soon since they are packing up the summer stuff here (and its in the 90s). Dick's Sporting goods puts the snowboards out on the day after labor day. LOL

I've made it a week and a day in Phase One of South Beach. I can definitely see the temptation to continue on Phase One longer than recommended. I'm actually a little nervous about starting to add back those good carbs. Maybe a healthy respect for them will do me good! I'm just going to stick with my plan whether I'm nervous or not!

Good for you! I am weary of skipping all carbs for two weeks (possible blood sugar issues) so i will just do phase II. When my insurance goes through I will be finding an internist to get the blood sugar tested again.

Well, I did do my C25K run last night, and I did a Turbo Jam video this morning, so I don't feel too bad now. If only I could just get my eating under control!

How do you like Turbo Jam? Is it fun? Challenging? Effective?
