Hubby told me the other day, "It's not what you eat, it's how much you eat." Is there any logic to this?

I have been having a hard time with eating at night. Well I have had 1 good day. :) It is the beginning of my no snacking at night roll. I also added more calories to my daytime eating so that when I get home from work I am not starving. I think that helped so much.

I did run last night. Today I am doing weights at lunch. I will probably take a walk with my husband tonight after dinner.

I love my pilates class. It is a great stretch and they work on strenthing my core muscles. It does not look like is a workout, but it is harder than it looks.

I have a co-worker that I got to go to the gym with me at lunch. I am excited because it is good for everyone to go to the gym.

It's BOTH!!!

You can't eat nothing but oreos and do well. You're body lacks the required nutrients.
You can't eat nothing but lettuce and tomatoes with olive oil dressing. You lack teh required nutrients.

According to those who strictly count calories, technically you could get away with eating a few oreos and be under your daily caloric intake. But it's not healthy.

To properly lose weight, you need to consume the right amount of the right foods. You can allow yourself a small splurge occassionally, if you have the control to do that. But you need the right foods in the right amounts.

See that's the frustrating thing is that everyone's body is different.

Some people eat junk and are thin

Some people have to watch everything they eat.

Some people can just exercise and the weight drops off and some have to do both.

So you have to find out what works for you. But in general, treats are ok its up to you know how many your body can handle.

all or nothing sets you up for failure.

I was excited today when I got on the scale. I was down 2.2 lbs from last week. Granted last week was TOM, but hey, I feel so much better. I have also made it through day 2 of no snacking at night. I can do this.

Today is a busy day. They are doing a bbq at work, so I am going to have that for lunch. I am also going to do pilates at lunch and then after work I do my run. Pray for me, as I have not been able to do both things on one day yet.

Also the weather finally calmed down, so I am hoping my running will be better. I hate when it is too hot to be really doing anything.

I hope it's OK to just jump into this thread without reading all 581 posts.

I'm very glad this thread is here. I started weight watchers last month, but haven't liked their message boards as much as Crosswalk. I'll start by answering the original questions.
quote:

What is your ultimate goal for your body?
To be fit.
quote:

Do you have a plan to get there, or are you looking for one?
I'm using Weight Watchers and exercising.

quote:

Do you have a time line you're working in to be 'in shape' by?
It would be nice to be at goal a year from now, but I really just want to see continued progress for as long as it takes.

quote:

Do you have mini-goals set up along the way for yourself?

I started out at #207 ( Don't tell anybody) My short term goals are to 1. Lose the first #5. I hope to get there this weigh in.
2.Get under 200
3.Be able to work harder and longer at exercise and tone up. Making lots of progress in this area.

Once I get some more pounds off, I hope to be able to run and walk longer distances. Right now my knees give out long before I'm tired. I have a couple of home exercise machines and some exercise dvd's. My favorite is Leslie Sansome's Walk away your Waistline featuring the walk belt. Her voice can be annoying, but it's a good pace and she mixes things up enough that my knees can handle it.

Sue -- With WW are you able to chose your own food or do have to buy their meals?

Sue ... welcome! Good luck and hope you stay here for encouragment.

My mom is doing WW and really enjoys it.

Nicole ... I'm not Sue, but I know the answer. You choose your own food. They give you the tools to choose the right food, and you go from there.

I did run #3 of week 4 last night. I was so close to running all of it, but got exhausted by the end of the last 5 min run. I walked about 30 sec of it. I'm debating whether or not I deserve to continue to week 5, or if i need one more run on week 4.

Water is still an issue for me. I need water when I run, but can't carry it with me. I guess I need to super-hydrate myself before my run and hope I don't have to go potty while running. That makes the run sooooo uncomfortable.

Thanks christsstar for the info. I'd really like to be a part of a program (as I have no willpower to do anything on my own). I'll have to talk to hubby about it. I'd really like to do this workout program y'all are doing. It sounds great. It sounds like you can really start at your own pace. I like that. Only thing is I don't have an ipod. Does it work with an mp3 player too?

Nicole, Christine already answered, but I thought I'd add that they have 2 different plans. In one you count the points of food and in the other you eat till you're full, but you need to pick items from that plan. You don't have to buy any special foods for either plan. I'm using points so I can eat anything I want in moderation. The point system is copyrighted by WW, but it's based on calories, fiber and fat content. I've tried on my own, but I need the accountability of facing the scale every week. I have a scale at home of course, but it's too easy to avoid it when I know I've been eating poorly.

Exactly! I really need to be a part of a group. I tend to become pretty obsessive about the scale though. I tend to want to weigh every day. I think once a week is a good way of tracking.

Once a week is better, but I'm obsessive as well and weigh every day. The diet program I am following is WW...just got the books in the mail from a friend. There's also a website I found that has points for quite a few things.

The running program I am doing is the Couch to 5K. I'm not sure if that's the exercise program you were referencing or not. I really really like it. Today was run 2 of week 7 for me. The podcasts I was using are the Christian Indies. I haven't been using anything for the last few runs as there are not intervals....it's 5 minutes of warm up....25 minutes of running....then 5 minutes of cool down. I just turn on the Message on my television (it's an XM music station) & set the various alarms on my cell phone.

You can do this, Sue. (((hugs))) I *wish* I only weighed 207, but I haven't been that size since middle school (give or take).

Nicole, that's what we're here for...accountability. It's hard to do things on your own...especially losing weight. DH has really gotten on board lately because he's gained some weight since our marriage too & his knees are really feeling it. We're both tired of being overweight!

This site is the be all and end all of c25K links, including links to the mp3's and podcasts.

I did run #2 of week 2 today! I really pushed my speed and didn't think I was gonna make it near the end, but I finished every interval. I'll decide after run #3 if I need to do another round of week 2 or not. There was a long-legged guy on the treadmill next to me loping along at 7mph- he made it look so easy.
I created a little spreadsheet for myself to track my time, distance, and calories for each run- I'm looking forward to seeing it add up. I'm still loving the Christian Indies tracks...its giving a whole new meaning to "worship God with your body".

Wow, thanks ladies. Now I just need to find where hubby left the mp3 player! I got on the scale this evening I have gained 10 lbs of the 18 that I had lost since having Mary. Saying I don't have the time to workout is baloney. I have the time.

Stopping by......

Had a couple bad days of no exercise and less than great eating. (not horrible, though)

I know it was a stress reaction to some things going on. I'm working on not do that to myself.

Anywho......even with the rain yesterday, I got in a walk. But it was at 10:45 last night. (took ds #1 with me)

Well I did not make it to day three of no snacking at night. I had a sandwich last night and then ate gold fish and then ate then and ate them. Ugh! I know now I have to take a certain amount and leave the rest in the cupboard.

But I did run last night, so I am excited that I am sticking to my exercise routine this week.

Today I am doing weights at lunch. Tonight I have dinner with my friend & tomorrow I have dinner out with a friend. Yikes!

I got into the chips last night. Weighed in at ww this morning and only lost 0.6#. I think I'd actually lost closer to 2 pounds, but salty chips made me retain some water. At least it's a loss. Maybe I'll get the total 5 pound loss next week.

At least you got lots of protein from the goldfish you ate.

I'm trying to be more reasonable about my exercise and food intake. I was getting overly restrictive and then binging. Even if I could lose weight that way, I'd never maintain it.

Plus, I'm making sure I get enough protein. Last night I made tacos with a little bit of burger, lots of spices, and tvp. The combination was very tasty and filling. I haven't had any cravings at all today. It's funny, I made regular tacos with very little spice the way my hubby likes them. I also made spicy tvp tacos. I let everyone know what was in each pan. My boys and a friend tried both and liked the tvp as much or better than the all beef version.
