Can anyone tell me WHY it takes so LONG to get unemployment benefits? It's getting nasty around here!

It took me 6-7 months. Then again, I'm in CA and had to file in IN.

I also had to go via the post office because my internet isn't all that great. I'd fill out the forms online and the internet would crash on me.

Roberta, did you get one big check for all that time they missed?

Debilyn, I tell 'em that they better look again because if I find it, it's mine! They usually seem to find it after that.

Garsy, it sounds like you got a good deal.

Not sure of the actual cubic footage, but it is 6 feet long by 2.5 feet wide, and around 4 feet tall ... so yeah, it holds a LOT!!! We got it right after baby #3 arrived, as we just knew instinctively he wouldn't be the last, even though I was dx'd with stage 1 uterine cancer after he arrived. Good thing, too, as we have 1 girl, and 3 piggies (oops ... I mean boys who can easily out eat daddy) and boy #4 is due in 2 months.

As for the 'losing' things ... I'm tempted to do what I've heard about several times (through friends who love Messies Anonymous) ... and that is getting a huge barrel or something like that ... after kids have gone to bed (right before mom goes to bed) go around and EVERYTHING which wasn't put away goes in the barrel ... doesn't matter what it is (ie. toys, dad's car keys, etc) Hmm ... looking around the room, I'm VERY VERY VERY tempted to do that!

Better than I was doing back then ... the only reason it had been discovered after #3 arrived was I ended up with 17 weeks of post partum bleeding, which required a D&C to fix ... and the pathology report came back with that dx. The OB didn't want to discuss a hysterectomy at that point due to my age (I was 26 then) so he put me on a high amount of oral chemo meds for 6 months. One month after that, I became pregnant with #4, so my repeat biopsy had to wait until after #4 arrived. That biopsy showed that the number of abnormal cells had actually diminished (due to the 9 month long stream of progesterone from the pregnancy) ... however the OB at that point decided that "4 kids is more than enough for anyone" and started pushing me to have uterine ablation. I said no, that I wasn't willing to do that ... and unless things started going downhill again, I was going to just let my body do its own thing (including getting pregnant again). So all is relatively well ... I will have another biopsy in the fall (after baby #5 arrives) to see if there is any change, and go from there.

While I can understand his concern over your health that just seems presumptious.

Yeah .. I agree -- and I'm not too impressed with the receptionist at my chiropractor's office right now, either ... she made the comment last week that having more than two children is just completely irresponsible (and poor planning) ... she *told* me we *have* to stop having kids after this one ... um, excuse me???? Since when do you have any say over what I can and cannot do????? Aargh -- some people!!!

Anywho, seeing as this is the PPS thread, I guess we'd better get somewhat back on topic ... LOL. It has been excruciatingly hot around here lately (humidex over 100 each day for the past week), but the local outdoor pools don't open until public school is out for the summer, which is June 27th ... I'm SOOOO glad for our backyard pool right now!

It's a chat thread, we can talk about anything, it doesn't all have to be about school. If you've ever glanced at the homeschool chat thread they don't talk about homeschooling that often in it.

LOL ... I'm *always* in that thread ... I'm a homeschooling mom!! (I support PPS as well, since I know that homeschooling isn't for everyone, and I hate to see people end up feeling bad because people pick on them for whatever choice they made ... dd spent a couple of years in private school, and then all of 2 weeks in public school ... she is just one who does better at home)

Thanks for your support Kara! I've never been able to figure out why some folks think the same thing is best for all kids and all families.

My 4yo got surprised by a Webkinz in the mail today that she won from the local Christian radio station. They have a coloring contest, and randomly draw returned coloring sheets for daily prizes. Hubby and I also won an anniversary dinner. We haven't used it yet. It's at a place about 40 miles from here. Fortunately it's also where my parents live so we can drop kids off! Although they may be busy harvesting wheat in a while.

We don't go out much, so any place nice where I don't have to cook or clean up is good with me. I do like the place where we got our dinner for two from a lot.

It's to this place. We will probably try to go on a Saturday when they have their German buffet.

I wish we could go now, before my oldest gets home because I'll feel bad not taking her as she really likes to go there. Actually, maybe we could go Saturday. I don't think my folks will be cutting wheat then. Hmmmm. I don't know why I didn't think about that before. We only have until July 2, so....

Hi all,
Hope you are enjoying the start of summer. It's warm here, low 90's but there's a good breeze. My little mermaids are in the pool. This is their last week of school so they haven't had any homework. Actually I don't think they are doing much, just finishing up anything they missed. I posted about Jessica's grades, well she will be at the school next year, it seems that the letter they sent wasn't accurate, they have to have more than one problem to be kicked out of the school, since my dd doesn't have discipline or absents problems she is fine. We do have one issue. When dh went to talk to her English teacher he was told that if she made up the work she would be fine, she would pass. Jessica talked to her today and she told her that she did turn in everything but her grade would stay an F. So my Dh is going to get on her about that. I'll say this for him, he jumped in and has really taken this issue on. For him tha tis a major thing, he hates to have conflict with anyone.

Still no word on twins summer school, Dh was going to call special ed today but he got a call from a church about starting an intership with them, they also told him about some other churches that are looking for part-time worship pastors, so he was busy with that.

So onward we go.
Take care my friends

I'm so glad you got that clarified about Jessica, Kim. I'm sure everyone is relieved.

I planted two blackberry plants tonight. They'd been in the nice cool shady garage until a day or so ago. They were a little wilty this evening when I planted them, hopefully they'll be OK. I didn't want to wait any longer.

Summer school is from July 7th to August 14th. Monday through Thursday, 8-11:30. Knowing that, there is no way on God's green earth that I am driving him on the weeks we should have had him. I am simply not doing it. So...since J got to make the decision without us, we will be picking our 28 days of the summer without her input.

Pro list-
I won't have to deal with Nick much without Brian there.
We should get a good number of weekends.
One less kid to worry about if I get put on bedrest like I was last time at the end (high BP).
I'm not wasting gas money bringing him there OR having to find something to do with the other kids for 3.5 hours.

Sucks list-
Nick can't come to VBS.
Nick can't come to FOT at Ellie's.
Noah is going to be bored out of his mind without Nick here.
This isn't going to help Nick. Second grade is going to be unbelievably hard for him.
J gets what she wants, with no regard for anyone else, yet again.
By the time he's done with summer school, I'm at the tail end of pregnancy. Yay.
And last, but not least, no matter what days I pick, she's going to have a problem with them and Brian won't stand up to her, I'm sure.

Hey everyone!

Donna - Yep pick your days! J decided on summer school without your input - so it should be on HER time.

Well we got our unemployment benefits TODAY! THANK GOD! Twas very nice to know that we can at least make our most pressing bills again.

We spent ALL day in town today! Left home at about 7:30 or so and had Aryn to the Orthodontist by 8. They say she's down to 4 baby teeth now and as soon as the bottom two start wiggling loose they want to see her and at the very least get some spacers in! The Dr. doesn't think that's going to happen in the next 6 months but stranger things have happened where my kids are concerned. Then straight to the dentist where we spent the next hour and a half with Aryn and Ty both needing fillings. So an appointment in 6 months for Aryn and 5 months for the dentist for all of the kids.

After all that was done we were off to Walmart for grocery shopping while Brian went with his sister to get a tattoo. Sister - not Brian. Two hours in the grocery store - I bought the kids some lunch at the grocery so we ate in the car since Brian had called and was on his way back already. Then down to the library for about 2 hours (thank God I remembered the cooler to house all the frozen and refrigerated stuff). The little guys went to a library program and got to do a few cute crafts that count toward time read for the summer reading program!

Then we dropped Ty off at his friend's house so he could catch a ride to her birthday party. THEN FINALLY WE WENT HOME! Got here at about 3:30!

Brian is now headed out to pick Ty up from his friend's house and come back home!

I'm glad we don't have ANYTHING until 6:30 PM tomorrow night! Ethan has a soccer game to make up for the one they missed a couple weeks ago and his last game is Saturday, IF it doesn't rain. If it rains I don't know what the plan is!

Blessings,

Garsy

It's going to be. There's no reason for us to spend gas money, valuable time, and limited pregnant momma energy driving him back and forth to summer school when he can ride the bus from her house for free.

Plus, the court order says we get two weeks in July and two weeks in August chosen by us. We've always worked around her wishes too. So this year, we work around summer school and she can take it or leave it...and take us to court. Our current court order is on our side.

Yay for unemployment money!!!

I hope you get a chance to relax tomorrow...I got tired just reading that.

Kath, did you get severe weather again? I heard them mention your area being affected by the same system that came through our area. We had storm (tornado) sirens so I ended up in the basement. I am so unprepared for severe weather. I grabbed my purse, but no flashlight and no battery powered radio. My son had a flashlight, and a battery radio, but no reception on the radio. I went back up and got a plug in radio. I can't stand being down there not knowing what's going on.

Everything is OK here, but apparently the town ten or so miles east of us got hit. Also Manhattan, KS reportedly got hit by tornadoes. So I'm thankful to still have power and a roof.

The two kids here (10 and 4) decided to sleep in the basement, listening to the radio. If they are still doing storm coverage I'm sure that's comforting.

Earlier my son came out of his room and told me a tornado was headed this way. He'd been listening to the radio. I was skeptical since the TV was on and I hadn't heard anything, but I told him to get some clothes on if he thought one was coming. I figured coming out on the other side of a tornado in just underwear might be a little awkward. The sirens sounded shortly after that.

Probably wouldn't be the first time though...

I'm glad you're all okay. Do you feel panicky when you hear the siren or is it just normal around there? I can't imagine not feeling panicky.

I made up a calendar for the summer on Google and printed it. Then color coded our days blue and her days pink. We've got 12 days in July and 16 in August, so there's our 4 weeks. I couldn't get 14 in July unless she didn't have him a single weekend and I knew that wouldn't fly.

Talked to Brian about it and he agrees that the only changes to be made to that schedule are for family things that she knows about NOW (not 2 days before the event). Otherwise, there is no reason to change it. I was very fair and made sure neither of them go more than 11 days without him (which Brian does twice, and her longest is 9 days). We have the last weekend in June all the way through July 6th, to get in some decent time before summer school.

It could be worse!

It got to 10.50pm and I suddenly realised that J and X are going to need sports clothes for school tomorrow, so now I'm going to have to sit up until the load is done so that I can wash them and put them in the dryer before heading to bed.

Kylie-Hope that the laundry is drying quickly for you!

We spent the day out of town yesterday to celebrate my ds's birthday (a few days late). We had beautiful weather and a thankfully a safe journey.
