right now i am taking classes in Communications. But I am in a dilemma. I haven't formally applied, I am in the open university. I have my Bachelors degree and want to go back to get my masters. I have two choices:

1. Masters Degree in Communications, 45 credits to graduate, and still go for a certificate in Conflict Resolution which adds a another year, but I really want to be a certified mediator. this is also an on-campus program, so that means driving out there, parking for parking, walking in rainstorms.

2. Apply for the Masters Degree in Conflict completely online. tuition is the same as above (California state) but no commuting, no parking fee and the masters only requires 36 credits to graduate, but i still have to do observations for the certification.

my mother is urging me to go for the Ma in Comm because it is broader and I can always go into other fields, plus the in person contact with people.

I am liking the online idea, of getting the degree and making contacts online and joining the alumni. plus I do thing there are still opportunities to get a job afterwards. My undergrad was in Humanities and Writing and I have 7 years professional experience with two really good companies in Orlando.

so sorry for the novel, but I just pray for the holy spirit to guide me in this decision as to what is best for the Kingdom of God.

I'm currently finishing up my B.S. in Psychology. My masters will be in counseling with an emphasis on children.

Certificate in Corporate Communications.

Still trying to decide what to do next (am contemplating taking either Psychology or English classes online for a little while, and then completing my Masters Degree once the kids have all started school.)

That made me chuckle. Though I guess they are all related to space...

It was between semesters, I didn't have a job, I was bored...so I signed up for the Interior decorating course (self-study). It was a lot of fun. Very different than what I usually did, but a good outlet for my "creative" side. My instructor was surprised at how well I did in calculating the area of a room, or how much paint would be needed, or the cost of materials for a job. I did the 2 year course in about 6 months. I could have done it quicker but they had a limit on the number of lessons you could complete in a week.

I made my decision. I contacted a professional mediator about my dilemma, and she told me outright that I should get the Masters in Comm and get the certification on the side. I really prayed for the answers and God answered that prayer.

eaglelady - that is a good decision. My graduate degree is in Communications and it has opened up a few different opportunities for me including ones that weren't what I studied. It gives you a very good background and a lot of great skills that are easily transferrable and a lot of employers recognize that.

My major is writing. My minor is Biblical languages, which is a little more exciting.

I used to be an English lit major, but I switched when I was having bad dreams from all the depressing stuff I had to read. Writing is harder, but safer, and I don't regret it. I'm a writer by nature, anyway.

All that doesn't tell me what I'll actually do for a job when I graduate. The English department at my school really presses alternative certification to teach high school English, and it also requires writing majors to take some journalism classes.

I was an English lit. major, although I don't recall a single nightmare. Anyway, the teaching certification is a very good idea. I would also take as many CIS classes as you can fit in. Journalism doesn't pay much.

What does CIS stand for?

I don't think most English lit. majors have bad dreams; I wasn't supposed to be in English lit, anyway. I wrote one required paper (some skills assesment analysis) on how I should be a writing major, and I got full marks, yet I stayed in English lit. for almost two semesters.... I don't know what I was thinking. I do have way too strong an imagination, though, and I was reading Dr. Faustus and Tess of the d'Urbervilles....

Motion Graphics/Broadcast Design

Though if I didn't need to worry about money, I'd want to be a professional horse trainer and just do freelance video projects on the side.
But it's all good ;D

Wow!! That was my double major as well!

I couldn't find out how to be gainfully employed with either major, so I had to go to law school.

Followed that up with a Masters in Tax Law, because apparently I am a degree junkie!
