Well, I tried a little bit at it, Daniel, and was unsuccessful thus far.

How embarrassing! I, the L5 FAN LADY, did not have A Little Taste of Heaven even on my iTunes or WMP!!!

I righted that immediately!

In iTunes, go to Edit >> Preferences >> Advanced >> Importing. On the "Import Using" drop down menu, pick "MP3 Encoder." Then select whatever bitrate you like.

As for songs that have already been imported in AAC, once this setting is in place, it's easy to convert them to mp3.

1. Click on the first song in the album with your mouse.
2. Press the shift key and the down arrow until you've selected the album.
3. Right-click in the songs list and select "Convert Selection to mp3" from the drop-down menu.

Then, to delete the old mp3, click them once and press the delete button.

So should I keep all my music in iTunes as MP3s? Or as both MP3 and AAC? Man, that would mean ALOT of songs in my iTunes!

Will this make my MP3 player take them then?

I think it would be best to keep them as mp3s. And yes, if you do that, your mp3 player will take them, then.

It doesn't give me the option to "convert to MP3."

All MP3s are not created equal! Dinana has no problem doing whatever she needs to do on hers. Mine, on the other hand, drives both of us crazy!

Does it say "Convert to AAC"?

If so, that means that you haven't done what I said in the earlier post, to set importing to mp3 as your default. The one has to precede the other.

I am now in the process of converting all my albums to MP3. I have about 500 songs, not sure how many albums that is, plus a few single songs. Imagine if Adam had to do that. He would be doing that all day!

Now, does this automatically convert the songs in my playlists, or do I have to make new playlists or what? Seeing I deleted all the AACs......

EDIT: It DOES delete my playlists!!!

Rule of Thumb:
Universal standards trump proprietary standards every time.

In other words, don't use RealPlayer, WMP, iTunes, etc. formats, because MP3 works on all these platforms and more.

Ok, I have all my songs (I think) converted to MP3 format, except I have a few that are "protected" and wouldn't convert. What's the deal with that?

Go to itunes.

In right hand corner, click edit then preferences.

Next, click advanced then importing

drop down menu beside import using, choose mp3 encoder

Click ok

In your itunes library, right-click beside the song title then choose convert to mp3

This usually works.

If it does not, dump the songs to a blank disc and then import them back to itunes. They are now imported as mp3 files.

Good luck.

Hey I posted this in post #9.....but Daniel Mount got all the credit ....same info in his post #26....17 posts later...so I'm not gonna tell you how to copy protected files...maybe Daniel will

I just loaded the latest version of iTunes.

That new way to view the music is pretty cool.

(I don't think it was on the last version)

What about this Genius thing? I was afraid to turn it on.

The Genius function doesn't work well with Southern Gospel.....now with most secular music, it's pretty awesome. I really like the playlists that Genius builds and the recommendations for purchase are pretty good too. I think Apple did a wise move by adding the Genius function.

The Genius thing is pretty cool, but it needs some work.

You turn it on, then you select a song and hit Genius and it makes a playlist based on that song.

The problem is that is doesn't recognize about half the songs in my library...

Maybe the next version will be better.

I lost all kinds of typed-in data one time after upgrading from WMP 10 to WMP 11. That's why I switched to iTunes.

Oh yeah....be sure to change the 'Setting' option to custom and select the highest bitrate possible (320).

I have heard that this is bogus. I have been told that CD quality is like 128 and that anything over that is just overkill, since it's above the source quality. How true this is, I dont know. I have just been told that all it does it makes the file bigger with no quality enhancement.

It's probably some silly copyright issue. I heard on the radio, that the "copyright" police are trying to make is so that you can't a CD that you OWN and make any copies of it. I haven't heard what became of this, but it's silly. If I buy a CD, as far as I'm concerned, I can convert it, copy it, or do anything I like, as long as it is for my own personal use.
I have taken all of my CD's of all genre's and converted them to mp3. That way I have them all at my finger tips. I have about 300 songs on my .mp3 player right now.

Since others have recommended different players, the Sandisk m250 .mp3 player is awesome. I used to have the 1gb version, and now have upgraded to the 2. I love it.
