Well, I'm under orders to rest today. I went on a 2 mile hike with dH and Nathan yesterday, and did a lot of cleaning. Today we were going to go to the zoo, since it is overcast, but I was having pain in my side and at the top of my abdomen. Nurse told me to cool it! So, dH spent the morning with Nathan at the park, and now I am hoping Nathan will go down for a nap, since he woke up very early this morning.

I have a cranky-bear-baby today. We were up almost all night, and now he has been cranky and crying most of the morning.

He's in his crib fussing right now so I can eat lunch.

I leave for Boston in the morning... I might be getting more excited by the minute LOL

Yolanda...have a great trip! Praying for safety in travel.

Hmm...we had a rough night last night too. ds2 (4 years old) had his birthday party yesterday evening/night, and all of the kiddos got to bed a little later than usual. Hubby and I were so exhausted that we went to bed much earlier than usual. Still not asleep yet, we heard ds2 sniffling and coughing. Hubby went in to check on him. He got up, blew his nose, and went back to bed. Hubby thought that it could be his pillowcase being washed in new detergent and stuff...so we took his pillow away and gave him another. He was still coughing. Then he started crying. We asked him why, and he wouldn't tell us for the longest time. Then he said that it was just too dark. We turned on some lights. He still cried. We asked him why and finally he said, "My stomach hurts." I held him for a while. He said he didn't have to go to the bathroom... So, I laid down with him. Poor child was crying in pain, "Ow, my stomach. It hurts, it hurts." It was making me crazy, wondering if it was something major or just a bad stomach ache or a virus or what. So, he's laying there, starts crying and says, "Oh no, I'm gonna throw up." I tried to get him out of the bed in time, but...he threw up on our bed, then all the way across the floor to the bathroom...and in the floor in there until he made it to the toilet. He sat down on our dd's potty seat while I cleaned up the room and cleaned him up. Dh went to get him some Coca-Cola to see if that would help. He took a few sips and then threw that up. I gave him some chewable Pepto-Bismol, and most of that came back up. :( I finally laid down to sleep around 1 AM...but didn't sleep much, kept wondering about him. He slept the rest of the night pretty well, and then hasn't had any trouble today... ???? Must have been something he ate, I guess. He had me scared though.

I'm very tired. Not looking forward to another long night, which I'm sure it will be because we have church tonight and usually do not get home until pretty late... So..........

Yolanda, hope you have a great time!! Sounds awesome! How long will you be gone?

Ruth -- rest up!

Hillary -- sounds like a rough night. Hope he's better today!

I'm attempting our yard sale again this weekend. I was going to have it a few weekends ago, but it rained. So we'll try this Friday and Saturday! Hopefully we do well! I have a ton of stuff it'll be nice to get it out of here.

Isabel is cracking me up. There is a mouse running around the kitchen, she can see it, and she's stomping her feet and whining and pointing to the kitchen, saying "ouf! ouf! ouf!" (mouse). LOL!!! She's so dramatic. She's acting like a damsel in distress.

Rachel, I wish I could see Isabel and the mouse!

Thanks guys, I'm looking forward to the trip. We leave tomorrow morning at 6:00am and come back sunday night at 8:00pm. It will be a good time, I'm looking forward to the Women of Faith conference and just having time away on my own for eating out, shopping, etc. without a baby in tow. Seems like hubby and i might need a little time on our own too.

I don't know what is wrong with Chase today, he is so not himself. He is whiney, clingy and easily upset. Normally he plays so well and is smiley and happy.

My parents didn't do a very good job censoring with us either. I had seen the entire "GodFather" trilogy before I was 7 years old...(that horse head in the bed...oh my heck..still messes with me...)
Justin and I have been struggling with this issue... there needs to be more censoring in our house to be sure. Gotta work on it.

Have fun, Yolanda!

My mom was fairly strict but inconsistent about censoring. She wouldn't let me watch The Simpsons or Ren & Stimpy when I was 13. I got to watch a couple Rated R movies when I was 13 like Arachniphobia and The People Under The Stairs, but I didn't get to watch Jason or Freddy Kruger till I was an adult.

Censoring -- my parents censored heavily when we were kiddos. I was NEVER allowed to watch Dirty Dancing, and all my other little 5 year old friends were, LOL. I remember seeing Mannequin, but my parents would watch some movies with us and fast forward through inappropriate parts (stop it and fast forward it, not just fast forward with it still playing). I watched Titanic with my mom when I was 17 and she still fast forwarded the inappropriate parts. We were allowed to watch some things like Schindler's List and Mississippi Burning, historical movies that were pretty disturbing. But that's totally different, and it was important that we learned about some horrible realities (when we were old enough to handle it, of course).

Bugs Bunny -- LOL, Zippy!! I have always been a huge fan of Looney Tunes. Some of them would be considered highly unacceptable and racist today!! Oh my goodness! Especially the WWII ones (some of those are really funny though, the ones that make fun of Hitler). I had no clue watching as a kid, though.

We censor heavily with our kids. We actually went without TV for the past 2 years, but now that we just got a new Hi-Def TV set we pick up a few digital channels. PBS and a couple of network. We almost never watch network TV. Hubby and I might watch CSI after the kids go to bed, but even that's rare. We mostly watch PBS. We like American Experience and other documentaries. Kids watch PBS shows in the morning. TV is rarely on in the afternoon or evening. We watch a lot of movies through Netflix, or the kids check out movies from the library.

My parents never censored what we watched. I.e. 'The best little whorehouse in texas' when I was five and my sister was 3 or less.

We did not have TV or even a movie player of any kind until a few years ago, and we still get no TV reception. I am glad for it. My mom thought I was uncompromisingly anal about movies when the boys were little. She used to get so mad when she'd picked a movie and I said no (ie, Ants). Then when she found out we watched The Princess Bride she was even angrier! Of course, the two times there's a bad word in that movie, Nate yells 'Bleeeeeep!' because a friend taught him to do so, lol.

One day a year or so ago she said to me, 'Boy, you sure have relaxed a lot' and I was like, it isn't about me relaxing, it's about the kids growing up!' but she still didn't get it.

However, there are times when she will say something is probably not a good idea to watch nowadays. Like, we watched the first season of 24 with her and she said, 'don't do seasons 2 and 3, they are just way too brutal' and so we didn't. But I think the change is that we live here in town now and see her every week, at least once, and she has noticed herself becoming uncomfortable during some scenes when she is watching with the boys. So basically, parenting has finally kicked in after all these years.

My parents were consistent and strict about what we were allowed to watch. I grew up with Gilligans Island, Hogans Heroes, Hawaii 5-O, I Dream of Jeanie and Green Acres. I think I was 13 before I realized that those weren't current shows

As I went through my teen years they became more lenient with what I was allowed to watch, and I very rarely felt they were unfair with what they'd let me watch.

Ruth - is your husband on vacation right now?

My parents were strict, but probably lenient about some things. I don't think there was a Disney/Pixar movie that we weren't allowed to watch but they definitely censored nudity, sexuality, most language, and sometimes violence depending on the context. I still haven't seen the Godfather Trilogy... We were also only allowed Christian music or the 70's hits. We weren't even allowed to listen to Jimmy Buffet, which I thought was ridiculous but now I understand why, LOL!

We will be strict, probably like my parents were.

My parents were strict about censorship, but not as strict as some parents.

We'll be stricter with our kids, but only because times & regular TV have changed. We have decided to never have cable. Right now, our babies go to be at 7, so they don't see what we watch. They watch PBS during the day. But we are very selective about what we watch ourselves. We wouldn't have cable even if we never had children, and we usually avoid R-rated movies.

Fortunately, Reagan still shows very little interest in TV. But Lincoln shows about as much interest as her already. So he may end up liking TV. We'll have to set a time limit on TV when he gets older. Reagan likes theme songs of shows, and telling me the show's name, and that's about it.

Well, my sons are out of the house for a 3 week camp and I brought home a 3 month old baby so I guess I'm back to being a SAHM

I'm excited because even though I'm limited physically, God has blessed my life. Don't forget I'm a missionary and I've never had outside help but desperately needed it. A lady in my church is coming M/W/F to help clean my house. She is such a blessing and I hope she doesn't move to the US in a few weeks. I don't feel at all guilty and am going to enjoy each and every day that I have to enjoy, for His glory! Bringing a foster baby in the house after 17 years isn't easy but we are enjoying him.

My recommendation is to make a personal list of chores and do what you can, eat right and do a little exercise. Enjoy your babies because they're only little for such a short time and then they're big and leave you

Akeelah is showing more and more interest in tv. Whereas we used to have Treehouse (the preschool channel) on in the background, she'll now sit in front of it and watch. So I've begun taping Sesame Street, and that's the only thing she watches. She may end up watching the same episode 5 times a day but I don't mind. Sometimes (like last night when she wouldn't go to bed) I'll let her watch Big Comfy Couch or Backyardigans, but that's the only tv we have on.

We plan to do it like this, tape the shows we approve of and have our kids watch tv off of the pvr only.

My parents were so strict I got yelled at and grounded (from my radio) for listening to country at 16 years old. Seemed a little extreme to me!!
I also never got to watch PG-13 or R until I was a teenager at least and it was "pre-approved".
Hubby and I have not talked about how strict we'll be. I'm sure it will be pretty strict.
Jenny-Fair....isn't "Ants" a kids movie? How do you know if a movie marketed to kids is appropriate or not? I know my SIL also is extremely strict with movies and I just wonder where she gets her information.

Yeah, Antz is a kids movie, and I won't let my kids watch it. It has the D Word in it! I usually just watch the movie beforehand. We copied our DVDs to the computer, and Robert used a program to edit out scenes I don't like in Cars, Madagascar, Ant Bully, and a couple others. Shark Tales...there was just too much int here to edit it, so into the trash it went.

Now, that cracked me up a little. I can't imagine my mom actually fast forwarding through parts of a movie when I was 17. By then I was on my own a lot, and could pretty much watch whatever I wanted.

Enjoy your trip, Yolanda!

Well, my situation got a little worse, and the doc office ended up bringing me in, just to check up on me. They did a quick ultrasound, and we're all fine. The midwife, as a general rule, would like me to continue moderate exercise, but to listen to my body and not over do it. I was having some BH this morning that were getting very uncomfortable.

Yes, my dH took this week off to get a lot of house stuff done and spend time with the family. My inlaws called on Saturday and asked if they could come up and visit today. It was kinda last minute, but they're family. Unfortunately they cannot have Nathan alone, so dH or I will still need to be with him at all times. Don't get me wrong, they are upstanding folks, but Nathan is still not ok being alone with them.

Last visit was the fist time he was ok playing with them, and even held his arms out to MIL. And he holds his arms out to a lot of folks, but inlaws still give him the creepies.

My inlaws were extremely lenient with my hubby and BIL. They never censored reading material and only the worst stuff in TV and movies. We'll probably be moderate about censorship, more on the level of my parents.

I agree that getting grounded for listening to country at 16 seems a bit extreme to me, but then when I was babysitting and the kids were in bed, I had free reign of my employers VCR collection!

Welcome back, Funny_girl! I've been wondering how you are doing. Are you still in Mexico?

My parents censored what we watched. I wasn't allowed to watch anything with dirty language or inappropriate sexual activity or innuendo. I wasn't allowed to watch R-rated movies (no such thing as PG-13 then,) MASH, or many night time sitcoms. I recall watching a lot of Gilligan's Island, Sesame Street, Electric Company, Little House, Anne of Green Gables, Christy, The Brady Bunch, and cartoons. You have to remember this was before "dirty cartoons" were allowed, like Ren & Stimpy, Rugrats, and The Simpsons. I watched things like The Smurfs, Bugs Bunny, Popeye, Duck Tales, Disney movies, and Gummy Bears ( bouncing here and there and everywhere! High adventure that's beyond compare! We are the Gummy Bears! .) Sometimes I think about the dirty jokes in Bugs or the non-christian worldview in Disney stuff and marvel that we were allowed to watch that. A lot of the stuff I catch now went over my head as a child, but some of the junk I probably absorbed and holds me back from a godly view of life and the world around me. I also recall the highlight of coming to visit my grandparents was getting to watch Hawaii 5-O reruns. The worst cartoon I recall watching was He-Man, but I was a pre-teen when that was popular.

We were brought up to appreciate "real" music (that's on pitch, doesn't destroy vocal cords, and has complex chord structure,) so a lot of the rock or country wouldn't have appealed to me. I don't recall any censorship in music, but I seem to recall my parents not liking my brothers christian hard rock. I wasn't involved in that too much because they were correcting him, so it could have been the volume at which he was listening to it and not the music itself.

Not having kids, I don't know how I would be with them, but odds are I would be pretty strict as they were young and then ease up as they grew and were able to understand that just because something is in a movie doesn't make it true or right.

That's a good point. My parents weren't restrictive with us, but they made sure to be open with us about things that may have come up. My sister is 7 years older than me and we had one tv. I remember watching 90210 when I was 7 because that's what she was watching. But my parents didn't turn a blind eye to it, they were open with us about it.

Same with Degrassi. The original Degrassi really pushed the envelope and I remember a friend whose sisters in high school weren't allowed to watch it. I was shocked since I could watch it, but I also learned that their parents were more of the keep their children from things and talk about it on their own terms whereas my parents were the let them see them and then talk about it type people. I don't think either way is the best or the worst. I do think I will be more restrictive with my children though.

My parents didn't censor things at all. Hubby's mom didn't censor either. But both hubby and I agree its important to censor our kids. Although we have fallen down on the job somewhat and really need to get back on it.

I use mainly www.kids-in-mind.com and family.org (the plugged in section) to figure out what we will and will not watch...or I watch it first. Sometimes I forget things or things are badly labeled. For instance, nudity used to be acceptable in PG films, so if a film was made before the PG 13 rating, you have to be more careful. Found that one out the hard way

Oh, and yeah, Antz is a kid's movie...with numerous sexual overtones, bad language, etc.

My parents censored pretty strongly too. Murder SHe WRote, Hogan's HEros, those kinds of things.

I never watched things like Dirty Dancing or Pretty Woman till I was grown and no longer living in their homes
