Okay, so it's a corny title for this thread but I'm not feeling all that creative right now.

This is where I pour out my guts, telling the good and the bad, and encourage others to share what they'd like. I tend to write serious stuff more than anything else but goofiness is welcome. More than anything, I want to bring glory to God.

Thanks. I know there's nothing in the Bible to prove it, but church tradition has Mary Magdalene breaking the alabaster box of perfume over Jesus' feet. I like that connection but "Alabaster Box" has become somewhat over used in my opinion. I was at the hospital this morning and they have a beautiful new atrium at the front entrance. You probably couldn't build an atrium with alabaster but this is the Internet. We can do whatever we imagine. [:)] I actually own a couple of things made of alabaster. Years ago I bought a bust of Chopin for my piano. Just a few years ago a friend sent me an alabaster box with a hinged lid she bought when visiting Italy. I keep oil of spikenard in it. I love symbolism. [sm=dance.gif]

I love it ... a bust of Chopin for your piano! [:D] That's awesome. My older sister plays, and she learned all of Chopin's work for her own personal enjoyment.

And I love the oil of spikenard in your alabaster box ... very cool! I can imagine the emotions you feel everytime you look at it.

Your sister learned ALL of Chopin? Wow! I'm not that good. Or maybe I'm not that committed. But I love Chopin's music and he composed for piano only, which is cool.

My alabaster box is in my prayer room. Every morning when I go there, I take a bit of the oil on my finger and "anoint" my forehead with it.

I love a good horseshoe game! Sounds like your sons are very active in their travels! (And yeah, I'm with you, when do we get our turn?) You're probably the typical mom and put your children before yourself, as most of us do. I hope they call and come by as often as they can though.

When we married, I thought he was a very committed Christian. Turned out he wasn't at all. It was February, 2002 that he wanted to know why I was going for counselling. I (very fearfully) told him that I struggle with same-sex attraction issues. His conclusion to the matter was that he needed to start going to church and hasn't missed a Sunday since. And yes, he does more than go to church. He has committed his life to Jesus--at least as much as he knows how to do at this point.

I've got cool sons (I keep calling them boys but they're all in their twenties). They're pretty good about keeping in touch when they're not home--except for ds4 who lives in lala land most of the time. I've heard from ds1 twice already since he arrived in Paris yesterday and he'll show up in MSN and gmail at unexpected times while he travels. He spent two months in China two summers ago and was really quite good at checking in periodically.

She played for her own personal enjoyment. Both her boys are quite musical too.

My great grandfather was a composer. My sister came across a group of CD's with recordings of all his music! What a find!!

The music genes seemed to skip me, but my son has them. Little music dude. [:D]

Oh that's cool, Sam! Is your great-grandfather known in the music world? Surely you took music lessons of some sort as kid. What instrument(s) did you study? (Notice, I didn't say "play") And what does your son play?

My son plays the trumpet. But he can listen to any piece of music and tell you every instrument used ... down to the type. Amazing!

Me? LOL My parents made me take piano lessons, but I was so frustrated I couldn't do it, so they put me in ballet. I studied ballet for several years. [:)]

Ballet? Yes. I loved it! It was just so incredibly time consuming. I had to stop in high school because I was in several advanced placement classes, and just didn't have the time to take lessons four days a week. But I still love the ballet, not that I get to go very often... it's such a beautiful expression.

Now I would let you all in on a secret when I was real young but its kinda embarrassing though. Well it shouldn't really be embarrassing but somehow it just seems so.

Ok, not that embarrassing, just when I was little, I wanted to learn ballet is all. This was back in the 70's when it was thought of as being a girls only thing.

Ballet is VERY demanding. Everyone has their gifting, artistically. Too bad you aren't able to go to the ballet often. We used to have season tickets years ago and I loved going.

Mike, ballet has always needed men.

Good morning all! I'd love it, if we had opportunity to go to a ballet, here.
But unfortunately,[&o] we'd have to travel at least 3 1/2 hours away to get to watch a performance. (Get to watch some on T.V. though.)

Hi Mike. If it was the '70's now, would you change your mind and take ballet? And do you have any regrets by not taking the lessons? Maggie's right. Ballet can always use men! In fact, without a man in the performance (to accompany the pretty ballerina) it's not as interesting to me!

BTW: You may find that you would enjoy watching a live performance, if you attended once.
