In one of my homebirthing books, can't remember which one, I saw a pic of a couple birthing their baby in lake/ocean water. I don't remember which. I don't know if I'd go that far. But laboring, yeah, that you could do. I think women whose water has broken can labor in a birth pool, don't know for sure. Help on that anyone?

Thanks for the support and advise ladies! I didn't have a bad dream OR heartburn last night. Yeah!

I would think it would be ok to labor in the lake as long as your water hasn't broken. Donna, you may want to check with your doctor on that.

I only know that around here, once your water has broken they won't let you in the labor tubs anymore. But that's hospitals, not sure about anywhere else. I would definitely say go for laboring in the lake!!! I'm much more of a lake than a pool girl, though.

I wish our hospital had a labor tub....Klay (who works there) says they do, but its used as a storage room. Though I am hopeful that with an acutual OB/GYN on staff now, they start doing things a little better, we have already seen changes in the year she has been here, and now she is one of the doctors on the board.

Seems to be a common thing ... our L&D is the same way ... they have a big tub for labouring moms, with one of those really nice 2 headed showers so you can point the water pressure at two different locations ... and it is filled to the brim with JUNK ... and has been since before I had dd in March 2001!!! In this "junk room" they also have two very dusty/dingy birthing stools, several of the birthing balls, etc. I'll tell ya, my midwife is quite peeved that it is that bad, and she can't do a darned thing about it! Also, each birthing room has a bar that attaches to the bed so that you can squat to deliver, rather than doing the whole lithotomy position, and those are covered with a thick layer of dust as well ... the OBs use it to hang their hats instead of letting the moms use them ... since it is "easier" to deliver lying down (easier for the OBs only!)

My midwife is SOOOOO happy that I'm not anaemic this time around and can therefore have Caleb at home ... she said that the thought of me having to do my entire labour in the hospital was making her queasy!!

I'm thinking I have a more natural hospital than most...
The information binder I got when I first was pregnant is very much on the side of going natural, taking into consideration all the risks of any interventions, staying at home with your baby if possible afterwards, etc.
Then I picked up the childbirth videos to watch before our class (2 1/2 hrs of videos, 8 hrs of classes) and they were all about natural pain techniques and going naturally.
And my hospital frequently uses the birthing tub...the only way you can't use it is if your water has broken, or there is someone else already in it.
Maybe that's why I'm so comfortable with my hospital...because they're more on the natural side anyway? Even if I do end up with an epidural, which at this point my husband is highly encouraging I don't think that I will be at all pressured into it by my doctor or the nurses. Not that I'm one that usually caves to pressure anyway, but...

Oh, and no call from the doctor today, so I guess my GTT was ok.
I'll find out for sure when I look it up on the computer at work tomorrow.

*sigh* My headaches are really coming back, and the pain pills the midwife gave make me really tired, so I think I'm going back to Tylenol.

Sideways - I am sorry to hear you are battling with your headaches again. I hope the Tylenol can take them away. Did the cold/heat packs work?

I have had back aches lately that wake me in the night. My hubby gave me a massage last night, and I put a cold pack on my back afterward. I felt so much better.

Ruth- How are ya feeling? Did you ever have stuff like this with your first pregnancy?

Angela- My back has been starting to bother me too. DH gave me about a 3 minute backrub last night, but it helped SO much!

My GTT result was 88. I'm rather proud of myself. My WBC's were up, but just a titch, so I must've been fighting something. But I've felt fine, so that's good. 30 weeks today!!!!

Congrats Chelsea!

Purejoy - That is great news about your GTT test.

Last night I used a heating pad and did some stretches for my back. That helped quite a bit.

Does anyone have experience with a chiropractor while pregnant? I went to a chiro years ago when I threw out my back and am considering going again because my back hurts just so and it cracks when I get out of a chair. I am kind of wary about going for some reason.

Thank you so much everyone !!!!! It is fun getting to post in here again!

We just found out last night, I am approximately 3 weeks along. I realized I was on day 30 and still no AF so on a hunch I went to the store and got a test. Well sure enough, I peed and couldn't look so I let Nathaniel (who was positive I wasn't pregnant lol) go in and look and he came out with a positive!!! He was pretty surprised needless to say but he is totally excited and thinks we are ready.

I'm still pretty much in shock I think, we were going to wait until the fall to start trying....it would seem God didn't like that plan. I'm pretty nervous too, the though of having two babies less than two years apart scares me more than a little!

One of the really great things though is that we have decided we are moving back to where our families live!!!!!!! We have lived six hours away for just about two years now and we want to be back, I don't think I could handle having another baby and being so far away from our families so I am super stoked!!

Congratulations Chelsea! That's wonderful news. Everyone I talk to tell me there are lots of positives to having two babies close together.

No headaches for me today, but I overdid it yesterday, and I need to rest today, so no going to the zoo for us! Poor Nathan is overtired, he woke up really early today, but he is fighting a nap.
