ORIGINAL: CoeurdeLeon Can't you just go ahead and get her whatever book she wants, Nadine? Even if she doesn't get reading credit for it? I'd sooner buy a book than a recorder. For more than one reason, too. I have done that. We just have sooooo many books that are below, or above her level, and very few at her level. The other problem is this, they have to get a certain number of points by the end of each quarter. The number of points is determined by their reading level. The kids in her class that read at grade level, have to earn 10 points those a little above 15 (very few kids in the catigory) and my daughter has to earn 20. That is very hard to do if you read too many other books (purely for pleasure) in between. Sad but true. Really, the maturity level should be taken into consideration. I have found very few books at a 6.0 level that are appropriate for a 9 yr old. I'm sure that is a problem. The content being too mature. Seems a little like school is punishing her for being a good reader. Not intentionally but it'd be simpler for her if she read at grade level. Makes you question their methods, doesn't it? Well, I hope she picks the stationery but it's too bad there aren't more books for her level or an adjustment made so that she could get her points at school. Lioness, I just looooove your avatar. *snigger* I need something like that for my kids.

I really think she will like this series. I hope the books are on the AR reading list. That is the other thing I forgot to mention. The books she reads have to be on the "reading list". The reason for this is; they have a reading comprehension test, that they have to take, after they read each book, in order to earn the points. Thank you so much! Also, Congrates on your daughters engagement! Blessings!

She reads AND comprehends at a VERY high level, and reads faster than any one in the family as well. She has read all those books many, many times...so many, in fact, that I'm ashamed to say she memorizes stuff out of them better than she does stuff out of the Bible. She could probably draw you a family tree with all the characters on it...sheesh. At any rate, maybe if they aren't on the list she can use them for summer reading. shallbe
