Darcie sneaks in the door of the cafe and looks around. She's not sure if she's in the right place because it's been so long that it all looks so different. Then she sees the girls sitting in the comfy chairs around the fireplace and realizes she's definitely in the right place.

So glad to see that even if I haven't been around for AGES, there are still some of my old friends here hanging out. I have briefly read the last few weeks of posts, so I'm kind of up to date but not really...

Tammy - you're a mommy? Congrats! How old is Josie?

Di, sorry to hear you're stressed. Family issues, eh? Is this the brother? Or more than the brother? How's work? Are you still at the same publication?

Trish, I'm sorry to hear about your health issues - this has been an ongoing battle for you, hasn't it? Now that you know what's going on, maybe it will be a little easier to deal with.

Ruthie, it's nice to see you around as well. Sorry to hear about the shed, the niece, the job and the daughter issues. I will be praying for you.

Gayle and Shaunii - nice to see you pop in. You don't need to feel bad about not checking in this month... I haven't checked in this year yet lol

Trishy, congrats on the engagement! When are you getting married? When did you get engaged? I suppose everybody else knows how he proposed... but do you want to share the story again?

I'm doing well. Just started a new job - a promotion at the same company I've been with for more than 5 years. It's going well. I just returned yesterday from a trip to Hawaii. I had an awesome time!! But the weather here is starting to feel like fall, so it was a little hard to come back to.

It's really late, and I really should be in bed. Nice to "see" all of you!!

Darcie

Hi Tammy, Darcie.

Darcie, it's been so long since we last saw you! Don't make yourself such a stranger, ok? Come and see us more often. You've been missed! Congrats too on the job promotion.

Tammy, did things still go through with Josie's procedure? Or was she too sick to have it done.

Yeah, being sick isn't the greatest. I've got a viral infection at the moment which kind of adds to the stress, but hopefully that will go away on its own soon.

As for Christmas. I'm one of those people who buy things all throughout the year so that I don't have a huge heap of gifts to buy at the end of the year. Less stressful. I've got my Christmas cards there to do, all ready to write out. Just have to get things and get them wrapped up. Doesn't mean a huge dip in finances at the end of the year due to Christmas either. Seeing as I send gifts overseas, I have to be organised anyway.

DARCIE!!!! Good to see you!!!

Yup, the brother and his girlfriend are trying to drag me and my roomate into their drama .... I'm not playing their game and have tried to convince my roomate likewise ...

Still working the same place. Sadly, two people were laid off this week. Thankfully, one of them was not me.

There is a birthday thread that somebody started for Tricia over in PFY if you'd like to post there.

Darcie! How wonderful to see you! Congrats on the promotion! To answer your question, Yep, I'm a mommy and she is 9 months old.

Trish, thanks for asking. Sorry you're sick right now. Bleh! Not fun! Wish I could be as organized with Christmas stuff as you! And I don't do nearly what you do so you'd think I could get with it.

Here's the update that I posted in the Women Only Prayer Request thread...hope it's okay to post it here too.

Everything went really well yesterday with Josie's surgeries! She was under longer than we had anticipated because the eye doctor wanted to get a good look inside her eyes while she was out. They did have to insert a tube in her tear duct system and will remove it the next time we're in B'ham (in February) unless she has any problems with it before then. The doctor found some far-sightedness so we'll have her eyes rechecked in February. He said sometimes they outgrow it. But other than that, everything was great! The ear tubes went very well.

She was running a low grade fever this morning (which is expected) but doesn't seem to be in any pain.

Trish, of course I've looked for jobs ... but unfortnately there's not much out there .... everything I'm seeing is part-time or just not me ....

I MAY be getting my hours back, however ... it won't be until later in the year. Meanwhile, my job has gotten a lot more complex .... trying to cover my area and a big part of the other person's area as well ...

Sorry Di, I didn't mean to make you sound like I thought you were an idiot or something. I sure didn't.

Tammy, glad things went so well. Will pray.

Hey everyone, good to hear from you.

What's happening in your neck of the woods, Mike?

Di, I know just how you feel. I keep looking for work, but there's just nothing that pays enough to make the jump worthwhile, let alone anything that's in my field. Of course with the fiscal year coming up, now I get all the dire threats and mutterings about how the next year's budget is sooo bad, and they might have to cut hours, yada yada yada. I get sick of it. Either lay me off, or shut up already! I sure hope you can get your hours back - make them appreciate how you've worked so hard to cover everything!

Tammy, that's great that Josie got through her procedures so well! I hope this all really helps her. A book club? Sigh. I live too far out in the boondocks for anything like that. I read all these great books, but have no one to talk with about them.

Darcy! So good to see you! A trip to Hawaii? Wow! I'll bet that was fun!

Trish, you're so organized! Christmas shopping? I'm still on summer mode, trying to can and freeze and otherwise put up some food; haven't even taken down my pool yet.

We're getting the tail end of tropical storm Ike; it's been raining since Friday. My yard is flooded, my basement is flooded, my driveway is underwater, and my pool is full to overflowing. But we still have power, and no real damage. The folks in Texas sure need prayers though!

Found out this week my daughter need oral surgery and then braces. Yay. Not sure how I'm going to pay for all that. The bad part is I'll have to go back to friend of the court and open the case to get butthead to pay his fifty percent. Not looking forward to that, you can be sure.

Got the first check from the insurance company this week; have to go to the city next week and buy a replacement generator. They only send a portion of the money; I have to borrow the balance, buy the item, and then send in the receipt to get the rest of the money. Seems like after paying money in all these years, the least they could do is send all the money up front!

Anyways, hope you are all well. Take care and God bless!

Hey Ruthie!

I'm so sorry for your dear daughter's dental situation ... but thank goodness she has parents that are willing to help her for that! I really needed oral surgery and braces when I was a kid ... but I was always told that "insurance won't cover it b/c it's cosmetic" and now that I'm a grown-up ... I can't afford it either ... and most people don't notice that I have a missing front tooth.

And I hope things get better with your job situation.

I don't like Ike ... we are dealing with a serious wind storm. It's scary out there! Trees are down ... cable is out ... fortunately, we have power! It sounds really scary out there.

(It would be nice if it caused some damage to my aluminum siding so my insurance company would replace it! )

Hi Di, now is oral surgery very painful? I have a tooth that needs to get pulled at some point, but do not want to face what I might have to endure at all.

Only oral surgery I've ever had was wisdom teeth. I was knocked out for that. And I remember not being in any pain afterwards. The pain pills pretty much went un-taken.

As for the fillings ... worst part is the shot they give you to numb you ... then your mouth feels funny the rest of the day.

Pay attention to what they tell you to avoid "dry sockets."

Oh yes, I have had extractions before, however when they use the term "oral Surgery" I just got a little worried is all. I guess it is more common than I think?

Sometimes if they call it "surgery" it gets covered better by health insurance ...

Its just when I went to get it extracted a month ago, the dentist there said that he wouldn't pull it because he said it was about to fall apart. He was right, at least I am not in pain anymore for the time being anyway.

Ruthie, so sorry your daughter has to have oral surgery and braces. Not fun. This may make you feel better...my insurance company did the same thing to me for roof damage from Katrina.

Wow, Ike really made a name for himself, didn't he? I'm so sorry to those of you suffering from it.

Josie's eye is clear! No more gunk! And she's only been found digging in one of her ears once since surgery! Now, if only we could get the kid to sleep a little better. It seems anytime she's been put under, her sleep at night is interrupted for a couple of weeks. It's getting butter and it's worth it!

Got offered a job as a secretary at the church I used to go to. It was a huge honor to be asked but I turned it down. Felt kinda funny to turn down a job.

Hi everybody.

Ruthie, good to see you back. I hope everything works out with your dd's dental work.

Tammy, I'm glad Josie's better. I hope you can get her settled back into a good sleep routine again.

We even had Ike remnants up here! Of course, I'm really not that much "up" from Ruthie. It came through last night. I did see some broken limbs on trees, but none around us. We caught the edge of it.

Hi everyone! I'll some major catching up later cause I don't have internet at home yet. We are hanging by a thread with a wireless connection. But Di, so sorry we weren't able to connect while up in Cleveland. The next time we get up there I'll be sure to remember to plan things more ahead. We had a great time! I loved Medina and Chagrin Falls. So lovely. :)

Like I promised, ALL of our wedding pics are available in my sig! Enjoy.

Trishy ... that's OK ... I was busy too ... your wedding photos look absolutely beautiful!

Tammy, I'm sure that must have been flattering to be asked ... of course, you DO have a full-time job with Josie! And I'm glad Josie the Brave came through very well!

Birthday was good. I made and canned salsa that day, LOL! In the evening we went to my in-laws' house for cake and dominoes. (Kevin had taken me out for a birthday dinner last weekend; it's easier to do it then than on a weeknight.)
