Being a good little PK, driven by hormones at the age of 14, my buddies and I would jump up and peek over the wall and watch the girls strip down to put their suit on and then again to put their clothes back on. What a great idea to enforce modesty. NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey. That is what 14 yo boys are going to do if they can. It is an age of intense hormone driven curiosity. And it is entirely possible that some of the girls were peeking over at the boys as well if they could.

I am not saying it is right or good, just reality. Most young folk do not have the maturity to redemptively deal with those urges.

Mixed swimming...

Is that where one does the back stroke, then the side stroke, breast stroke ([sm=icon_smile_yikes.gif]I SAID that?), and crawl stroke all in the same session?[&:]

bluestone -> RE: SWIMMING AND SWIMSUITS...nor not? (3/12/2008 9:46:32 AM)

Let's call it mixed bathing like the old time holiness folks..make it sound nasty!!![:D]

phosadaud -> RE: SWIMMING AND SWIMSUITS...nor not? (3/12/2008 3:08:36 PM)

Does that mean as long as I leave the shampoo at home, I'm not sinning? [8D]

Speaking of.....

Hot tubs are definitely, if not sinful, incredibly gross. A human bacterial frappe.[sm=icon_smile_boggled.gif]

Natural hot springs on the other hand are wonderful things.

Swimming with long hair and nails while drinking and getting a massage listening to "jungle-beat" rock music.

Definitely.

Shoot them.

Oh, wait, is that a sin?

If it is at all enjoyable, it is a sin. There. That should end the whole "Is ----- a sin?" thread stuff.

Good grief, talk about straining gnats.

LET IT GO PEOPLE!!!!

I just about fell out of my chair laughing

OneOfHisJewels -> RE: SWIMMING AND SWIMSUITS...nor not? (3/15/2008 2:25:13 AM)

I wear a modest one piece with swim shorts.

amyk -> RE: SWIMMING AND SWIMSUITS...nor not? (3/15/2008 7:25:42 AM)

I have never thought swimming with people of the opposite sex is sinful. Now I am just too embarrased to be seen in my bathing suit by the opposite sex!

Sararileyann -> RE: SWIMMING AND SWIMSUITS...nor not? (4/9/2008 12:17:54 PM)

First of all. That this should even be in question seems ridiculous to me!
Its really hilarious though. Let me remind you all! God made us the way we are, this means physically too! You aren't born in your Seven jeans with your Gucci heals already in place. Adam and Eve wore nice leaves after they messed up. Are leaves okay for swimwear???

Second, it usually doesn't matter to a man/boy/teenager if a woman has on a potato sack or a bikini. Thoughts are still going to be there, in the pool, not in the pool, concrete walls, no concrete walls. Doesn't really matter. The great thing about being a Christian is you have the strength from God to not act on these thoughts (WHICH ARE GOING TO BE THERE WHETHER YOU ARE SWIMMING NAKED WITH THE LSU CHEERLEADERS OR NOT!) and live the life He wants from you. He loves us for who we are and he knows our human nature. [:D]

So I guess the only solution to this for the people who see SWIMMING and adorable swim suits as a sin is to seperate the genders completely!!!!

I sure hope they decide to move all the ladies to somewhere with a nice beach so I can wear my itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini!

Exception: It may very well be a sin to wear speedos or bikinis if you are over certain weight limits. Depends on the build and so forth. :D

Lighten up! Love GOD! Live this Life HE gave us for HIM! (Live it though!!!)

HEY! That ain't nice! You must be forgettin' 'bout all them womens who stalk boys. What's with the gender-cism in this forum lately? [8D]

doinkdom -> RE: SWIMMING AND SWIMSUITS...nor not? (4/9/2008 3:26:03 PM)

I can't believe this thread suggests we actually swim in water, much less around each other.

Don't you people know that water is for cleaning and baptism purposes only.[sm=nosestuckup.gif]

and you guys call yourself Christians [sm=shakinghead.gif]

doinkdom -> RE: SWIMMING AND SWIMSUITS...nor not? (4/9/2008 3:29:32 PM)

Seriously...our culture is so sex obsessed, we have it on the brain and everything we see or do seems to relate back to that.

It's just swimming! It's swinging from a rope on a tree over a river or lake. It's hanging out with friends and family during a picnic near the river. It's a pool full of kids and parents splashing around and laughing.

If the bathing suits are modest and they reflect the true modesty of the wearer's heart...then anyone offended may need to check their own heart issues.

phosadaud -> RE: SWIMMING AND SWIMSUITS...nor not? (4/9/2008 11:01:43 PM)

I just wanted everyone to know that I just bought a new swimsuit... And I'm sure when I wear it the first time, it will be "mixed bathing"... [sm=icon_smile_yikes.gif]

sunshine4God -> RE: SWIMMING AND SWIMSUITS...nor not? (4/10/2008 1:27:18 AM)

as someone who is blessed to have a pool in my backyard I certainly don't think swimming is a sin, even if boys and girls swim together.
I also don't have any problem swimming at the beach.I refuse to wear a bikini though and love tankinis and boy shorts.

Oh I so agree with this statement! Here's a slightly interesting story: my brother was recently in the area with his two girls 11 and 3. I have two boys 11 and 8. My 8 year old son was in a bedroom (state room to be exact) with my 11 year old niece. When my brother found out about this, he went balistic. Said it was completely inappropriate for them to be 'alone together' as 'something' could 'happen'. *sigh* I don't know about him, but I talk to my boys all the time about girls and dating, and what God wants for us.

It doesn't matter if someone is in a string bikini or a jogging suit while swimming; if someone is going to lust, they're going to lust and there's nothing we can do about it except keep ourselves as modest as possible and respect those around us.

lightshineon -> RE: SWIMMING AND SWIMSUITS...nor not? (4/10/2008 9:34:15 AM)

I used to wear bikinis when I was young. I shudder thinking about it now, looking back. I have three daughters, and their bikinis, are very modest, Boy Shorts, and tank-top things. I will never, as long as a breath is in my body let my girls wear those vulgar bikinis, that I would wear in younger days. My point is, that swiming is not sinful as long, as people are dressed both male and female, in appropriate wares. BTW, I may sound like a hypocrite, doing what I did when I was young, but hey what they do not know, will not hurt them, but help them.

America has become an obese country.

You may want to rethink that one.

traisjames -> RE: SWIMMING AND SWIMSUITS...nor not? (5/28/2008 9:27:25 AM)

I would go swimsuit less. then when I get done swimming, I can dry off and put my dry clothing back on. No need to worry about a wet dripping swimsuit that would get moldy

Old men in speedos are gross...but not necesarily sin.

LOL....I was married on a beach....and the first thing I saw as I walked down the beach to meet my husband was an old man in a speedo. An unfortunate thing I will never forget about my wedding!

I wear a bathing suit that has the boy cut shorts and a tank top so really you see my arms and legs.

I don't see this as a sin issue, but I've seen someone in my church wear very immodest bathing suits and I think that is an issue that should be talked about.

I posted in another thread the genius of my church camp directors.

We had two pools. One for the girls, one for the boys. There was a cinder block wall dividing the two. They decided to build a changing area at the pool for modesty reasons. They build it at the wall between the two pools and left about a 3 foot gap between the top of the wall and the peak of the roof.

Being a good little PK, driven by hormones at the age of 14, my buddies and I would jump up and peek over the wall and watch the girls strip down to put their suit on and then again to put their clothes back on. What a great idea to enforce modesty. NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love it, You are a sinning, lust filled, rule breaking, rebellious, little snot of a teen; and you want to bleme the camp rules. How typical of the devil.

Thanks
RC

How can you even think about swimming!? Much less with the opposite sex. If you do feel the urge to sin by swimming at least wear this http://www.wholesomewear.com/

Honestly people. This is a culture issue. Not a sin issue. In America it is appropriate to wear a swim suit. In some countries it is appropriate to swim nude. It doesn't matter. I think a lot of this is people showing off by "who can be the most modest". Get over yourselves.

According to the poll 79% of us feel the same way you do. So I guess we are 'over ourselves'.[8|]
