You can use antennas until the 2009 switch. But if you are in a rural area I am not sure how well they work. The stores are selling digital converter boxes for those that do not have cable or satellite. Cable and Satellite are already digital, they just want people to upgrade to High Def TV so they can get the best picture.

our van gets about 28mpg in town...on the highway it was be up to 32mpg...I LOVE MY KIA!!!!
Do Kias generally get good mileage? I have a Kia (car) and I can get 40 mpg usually....at least 36 mpg.

LOL. There are some complaints about the quality starting to go downhill on certain models but I think they are trying to keep their reputation. I am keeping track on the toyota forums anyway. If it will be a problem out of warranty I will get rid of it for something else when the time comes.

We have a Chevy Uplander van and then dh has a company truck. Both are fairly necessary - can't fit 6 people in a car now that they don't have bench sitting in front anymore. And DH runs his own construction business so he needs a truck.
You very seldom see me driving alone that's for sure! I'd love to drive alone every once in awhile - wouldn't that be nice and quiet?

Sorta topic change?
I know that as a country, Americans are constantly abdicating personal responsibility and expecting the government to take care of more and more for them. It seems to me that Christians are starting to abdicate their personal responsibilities also. I can think of two specific areas: evangelism and helping the needy.
It's easy when it comes to helping the poor for us to have the "I gave at the office" mentality instead of getting down, becoming a part of people's lives and helping them ourselves. I know that I'm guilty of that. It's easy for me to think, I gave at church and we have a benevolence ministry to help people, so I can check "feed the needy" off my to-do list. Also, if they're really needy, there's the government there to help them.
The seeker-sensitive church service has also been of great detriment to personal evangelism if you ask me (and I just know y'all did  ). Instead of actually getting out there and sharing with people, we invite them to a church service. It's easy to feel like if we can get them to church, then it's their job to lead them to Christ.
So, do you see those attitudes in Christians around you or is it just me?

Our church is having an Evangelism Explosion course in September and I'm really disappointed we're going to miss it because we're going out of town that weekend.

Brian (AKA mechanic man) says we will never buy a Kia. Every one he has worked on had serious, expensive issues. And he doesn't like working on them even when he's not the one footing the bill.
I miss his Subaru. We'll definitely buy another one when he is able to drive. I hate driving the van when it's just me and one or two kids, but it doesn't make sense for us to have two cars when only one of us can drive either. Our van is a Ford Windstar, gets 25ish mpg, which isn't bad for a van, and has been good to us repair-wise.

Donna- My hubby agrees with Brian- Kia's are trouble, he had to constantly fix a woman in churchs until he told her it was a waste of time. She got a subaru. Hubby likes Toyota's, Subaru, and Holden. Ford are ok, but in Australia there are big competitions between Ford and Holden

I think Kias are more shoddily made than many other cars, probably depending on the model of Kia. I think within my first few months of having it, all the headlights/tail lights went out and the glove compt. handle broke. Then the tires we drove off the lot with were junk... the engine broke soon after and we had to replace it for thousands of dollars. (The car was brand new.)
I'll NEVER get another Kia, but this one was a gift, so I'll take what I can get....plus I like the mpg I get, but now the car spontaneously cuts off. We got the battery replaced, but it still cuts off. We think the fuel line is crazy now.

Yes, there are many Christians I see who aren't interested in evanglism or helping the needy. There are many churches that could also fit into that category. I have become part of a church that is active in both areas and I'm finding ways to get involved. But I wonder if it is the job of all Christians and all churches. Please don't brand me a heretic! Jesus said that each of us is a different part of the body. Not everyone has the same function. For instance, how many churches or witnessing programs are aimed at the rich? They are in desperate need of God as well. And what about discipling those who are Christians. Sadly there are far too many people who say they are saved but have never read the Bible even once through and have no idea what it really means to be a Christian.
Having said all that, most Christians aren't any different from the average person in the country. As a group we are as self-absorbed, wanting benefits instead of responsibilities and come to church with a consumer mentality. Not everyone is like this, of course, but far too many are.

the dealership told me they typically do....I wasn't sure if they were just blowing smoke though....but our older van was doing good to get 20mpg, so I know the van gets' great mileage for a van. My parents have downsized from minivans to a couple of Toyota Corollas (empty nest). You can get them with 100K miles on them for next to nothing, and expect them to run for another 100K miles before giving out.
Granted, our '96 escort has 80K miles on it. I don't think they're supposed to last that long- our friend was calling dealerships trying to get a user's manual and was told they don't keep them for Escorts that old.

Call me crazy, but to me THAT is the function of the church. It's to equip believers so that they can go into all the world and tell the Good News. Not to evangelize or help the needy on behalf of it's members.
