When this thread first started, I didn't feel ready to participate, because truthfully, around the time the thread started, I thought the mods were too "hard," on us (I hadn't been here long at the time). After an experience I had this morning on another website, I realize now the mods here aren't hard on us at all. They have to be firm at times, but trust me folks, we get SOOOOOO much mercy around here!

Enough people that are still around that comment once in a while about, "How many TOS's have I had?" show we get LOTS of mercy here!

I am (WAS) on another website, on which I posted last night. I had probably about 200 posts on that site, and not a one had been what we would call here a "TOS." They call it something different there. A lot of people were starting to use foul language, and it was getting to me..I asked if we could please keep discussing the subject at hand w/o using foul language..and it was only a p.s. in the post..I wasn't trying to play mod..just trying to politely express my feelings..I logged on this morning, to find I had been banned! For ONE bad post out of about 200! I had never even had a warning or anything there. Here, it would have probably been a post removed and a warning. Plus, they didn't even give an email where we could discuss it, like they do here!

Also, I am glad I experienced some "firmness" at first, even though it wasn't fun at the time. It helped me know where the boundaries were, and to stay in them. Of course, I read TOS before I ever logged on, and thought I would certainly never committ a TOS violation..but we all interpret things differently, and at first some people don't realize they might be violating TOS..so it helps to have a correction or two in the beginning to know exactly what is expected here.

SO, I am thankful for the GREAT jobs the mods do,
I am thankful they let us know where the boundaries are (just as a parent would).
And I am ESPECIALLY thankful for the INCREDIBLE amount of MERCY we get here!!!!

Kudos to you, mods!!!!!!!!!!!

That's cool, Jimbo! I hope some mods peek into this thread soon, so they can see the new posts, and it can help them feel appreciated

Jewels, that is terrible that they banned you with no warning for simply asking that people tone down the language. I am sorry that happened to you.

Oh, yes, I've noticed that! I've known that for quite a while! I think the home school folder moms were the first to want her to have that title. I noticed it because I hang out in home school support and public and private school support a lot. I'm not a parent, but I think parents in both situations need encouragement, so I like to hang out at both. Plus since I don't have kids its nice to at least see what's going on with other people's kids.

Mine too! Guardian Mods is a good title...they pull us back in line before we destroy ourselves.

Thanks Kate! I really did respond to you before, but my computer ate it. GRRR. Yeah, it was pretty devastating to me yesterday a.m. to find out I was banned. I felt like I had been arrested. However, even before yesterday, I had started to be convicted about participating in that site with its very unchristian behavior. I don't think it's wrong for christians to be on sites that aren't specifically christian (such as a gardening or an ice skating site)..but this site was starting to verge on just being cruel to a certain group of people, and having very bad things to say about christian beliefs..I had kind of been getting convicted about being on that site, but hadn't had the guts to make the break, so maybe that was God's way of making it happen sooner than later. But thank you for sympathy! It made me cry (in a good way).

Thanks everyone - it's been great being a mod - and being able to help in some small way with how things go around here. But, it's YOU all who make it work!

Once upon a time, I was corrected for a TOS violation here. Since we can't send PM's about their statements, I was unable to apologize and agree that the correction was appropriate. However, I appreciated it quietly.

For some time, I've been thinking how I appreciate Ps103. I wonder how anyone can so consistently be such a good example here. Even when she gets irate about something, it always seems to be in response to just the appropriate kind of thing and at just the right level. She seems wise beyond her years.

Agreed - she has a soft touch with words, even when speaking strongly.

I wish I could learn that skill!

While I certainly do not encourage anyone to ignore the rules, a mod has never written up someone for violating* TOS for PMing back a simple apology.

*edited because some people are too literal for their own good.

So does that mean there are instances where mods do violate people?

I have had to apologize to the Mods several times rightfully so I might add. IMHO we have some of the best there is. I am going to e-mail Fritzw and ask if he can double their pay.
