The verse from Mark 11:22-25
22"Have[f] faith in God," Jesus answered. 23"I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. 24Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. 25And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins."
(from NIV)
The above verse is used by WOF teachers to back up their belief in "name it-claim it".
"Say to this mountain, "Move from here to there", I looked this up in Biblegateway.com and could not find any scriptural source.
In any case, she sounds a bit Word of Faith to me. I am wary of her.
Whenever scripture is used out of context to prove a point. This can be dangerous.
Scripture must always back up the point one is making in context. It is abusing scripture, IMO, to do otherwise.

About the leather pants.....Beth wore jeans with a jean jacket friday night and she wore blue pants and a bright pink jacket Saturday. It was cute but not too flashy. It doesn't really matter to me.

I just got caught up on this thread.
A lot of talk about a crystal sea.
A friend of mine has been looking for the scripture that says
our sins are cast into the "sea of forgetfulness." To my knowledge
there is no such scripture. Anyone have a clue if there is?
I think it's one of those chimney scriptures.

I think the reason so many women love Beth is because she relates to the majority of Christian women today who really are so frazzled with their busy lives and in their walk with the Lord that they have little influence on the culture around them. Beth teaches from the perspective of one who has been, (and at times still is) on the edge, yet because she has chosen to be in the Word for herself, Jesus carries her through. She says that every one of her Bible studies are the end result of those dark and desperate times.
Beth was fun, and a blessing, and definitely the "draw" for women going to the Atlanta Deeper Still conference, but the powerful word of God given through Kay Arthur, was what the conference was all about.
Priscilla Schreier prepped us, challenging us to keep our eyes on the LORD even when we're in the wilderness.
Kay brought the message that God gives through Jeremiah and Isaiah of judgement coming on God's people, for their sin. I have heard that many women were at a complete loss to understand what they were hearing. God bless their poor little hearts, most have never heard, let alone have studied, a message like that.
Beth brought the message that "the Word" Kay had brought to us was indeed THE WORD WHO BECAME FLESH, Jesus. Sin will be judged, the nations will be judged, but if we are in Christ, we can rest in the knowledge that we have a hope and a salvation in Jesus our One and Only.

What's a chimney scripture? I've never heard that before!
I don't know of a verse that address a "sea of forgetfulness" but we are told in Jeremiah 31-34 "For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more." And Micah 7:19 "...you will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea." Not just throw - He's going to HURL them into the sea!

Mandisa was on American Idol a few years ago. Before that though, she was part of the worship team that travels around with Beth Moore. I wish you all could have been there when she sang "Shackles". Unbelievable.

I think you put this very well. I have seen Beth speak at a conference too. I have done most of her bible studies, watch her on tv Wed mornings and read some of her books. I can see how someone may not like her particular style but, once you really listen to her you can hear truths of the bible and realize her love is real. I always research what the critics say with each bible study but, have yet to read any dirt on her that will keep me from doing her studies.

In the following matters, I don't praise you. Your meetings do more harm than good.
First, here is what people are telling me. When you come together as a church, you take sides. And in some ways I believe it. No doubt you need to take sides in order to show which of you God agrees with! (1 Corinthians 11:17-19 NIRV).
Beth Moore is emphatic and wears leather pants to show that you can LIVE and Love Christ at the same time. You don't need to be a self-righteous, ugly, lonely woman to Love Christ and Live in His name on a daily basis. I am very wary of anyone who judges her as her motives are pure and the Holy Spirit dwells within her. She has an incredible research and resource team who help her deliver Christ centered messages for those who have been in very dark places. If you live on a high and lofty hill, then you probably will have difficulty relating to her.

I really wasn't trying to avoid anything, just employing a little humor to make an important point. Everyone of us are making some form of judgment about Moore, including you. Some judge her to be, as you say, "pure," others take the opposite position; others land somewhere in the middle.
I am probably more in the middle than anywhere else. Ultimately, all any of us can do is test actions (as we don't really know what is going on in a person's heart). I have encountered some things about Moore's teachings that trouble me, but I also see the good. I made a personal decision not to do her studies anymore because I prefer teachings that stay more grounded in what the word has revealed instead of reading into it things it doesn't actually say.
