Rebecca...Think Joe has left....JimmyP mom is not doing good. They had to cancel the cruise this week because of her health. She is 99 and Jimmy didn't want to go on the cruise because of her.

Thanks Robert, I will email The Diplomats directly. We just saw them last weekend in Winder and Gainesville. Jimmy was talking about how his Mama was 'ready to go home'. I love that whole group and I am so sorry they are going thru this.

There are many top notch Bass singers right now, but one of my favorites would be Joeseph Brown with The Diplomats. He not only has the Low end covered but has a good mid range also and on top of that a very nice individual also. There Joe, I said it, You can buy my dinner next time we sing together. Lane

I promised a few post back I would link to a audio file where you could listen to Mike Schlee, the bass singer with the SOngfellows. The links are below. Mike carries the melody on How Long Has It Been and listen to the chest rattling slide he does on You'll Never Walk Alone. Let me know what you think. IMO he is smooth and very good. Had It Not Been You'll Never Walk Alone

For whatever it's worth, as I recall, they intentionally recorded this project on older microphones (ribbon mics?) without any effects like pitch correction.

That is correct Daniel Vintage Ribbon 44's. But I have to agree with Bigboytenor that the tenor singer would not make my favorite list.

Yeah. I don't mind his voice, but he's not on my top 10 favorites either. I'm thinking he only stayed a few years, and that they have a new tenor now (if they're still going).

BTW bigboytenor we agree on more than you might think. It's just no fun agreeing all the time so we usually only post when we disagree. Maybe we should remedy that.

Daniel I have not heard anything about them since Bob Sr. passed away. I don't know if Bob Jr. is keeping the group on the road or not.

Will Lane of Driven is perhaps the most overlooked bass in SG today. He has a very powerful bass voice. What ever happened to Harold Gilley? Are any of today's bass singers going to be remembered as having both the talent and class of George Yonce, JD Sumner, Chief or London Paris?

I have only had a conversation with one bass singer mentioned here and that was Jeff Chapmen. I talked to him at one of the Dollywood shows for a few minutes about football {I know, I get the chance to talk to my favorite bass singer and we talk football, silly right}. Then a few months later LRBB,my wife, and I went back to see them and as I walked up he said, "How 'bout them Wildcats" remembering our conversation from months earlier that I'am a U.K. fan. To me that was a good example of class. I'm not an insider to the industry of SG music, and I don't get to see them every other day,or month for that matter. We had only spoken once before and he remembered me. And no I wasn't wearing any U.K. hats or t-shirts.

That's impressive, BRBB. I do good to remember my own name, much less someone from months earlier.

I'll throw in there that Billy Hodges and I talked about deer hunting both times also but he sings on the other side of this conversation. They're an all around great group of guys.

just stopping by the drop a vote for Mike Holcomb....the again I may be a little bias since he's been like a second dad to be since I was eight.

Hello all! I'd have to agree in saying that Mike Presnell is one of the best! I'd have to agree about trent adams too. He CAN be good but MUST listen to the advice given to him by his peers. I've told him this to his face before so I am not talking bad about him. It's not all about how low you can sing..its being a real singer with a low voice. That was what George Yeonce would always say to young bass singers. If you aren't willing to listen than you will never learn!
