hello slew.
sure suicide's forgiven. there's no sin God doesn't forgive. what happens if a "true" believer dies while sinning? they're justified. it's not what we do or don't do that saves us, it's who we say Jesus is. if we accept Him as our lord and personal Savior we're justified. just if i'd never sinned. what happens to believers in sin at the moment of the 2nd comming? hell or heaven? heaven! we, like paul, have things that we don't want to do but do. that's it. later.

Ok, I was talking to a friend of mine about this, he said that the only thing that is not forgiven is blasphemy..Correct? So, if we are that
disturbed and distraught why would this not be forgiven. Especially when we are under such an attack by satan to want to kill ourselves, that is not coming from us, that is coming from satan...

God forgives us for ALL our sins except blasphemy..

Mar 3:28 "Truly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the children of man, and whatever blasphemies they utter,
Mar 3:29 but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin"--

Luk 12:10 And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but the one who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.

It is just that one sin that cannot be forgiven. Everything else can be forgiven if we repent and ask forgiveness.

There is only one sin that is called unforgivable - the sin against the Holy Spirit (Mat.12:31). There can be many reasons for suicide - God knows all and He is the God of mercy and compassion. Always remember that God's love for others is greater than ours. This may give comfort to those who have lost a loved one under such circumstances.

The poll question that rmoore posted was, "Can someone who commits suicide get into Heaven." I needed to clear my stand point from there since that thread is now closed

No. Anybody who dies in sin does not "get into Heaven".

The above is biblically incorrect and cheapens what Jesus absolutely completed on the cross.

And to answer the question... Yes.

Cheapening what Christ did absolutely on the cross was NOT my intention here. No way, no how. My answer was based on if the person was not a born-again believer as the question does not specify. Of course, one can assume that the question is being asked in regards to a believer as it was posted here, a Christian forum.

Maybe I can re-phrase what I stated:
Those without Christ who die, are dead for eternity.

I can't seem to explain myself clearly today or ever. Maybe it's the coffee or the Jimmie Dean breakfast sandwiches I had for lunch.

Sorry if I've misrepresented.

My dad committed suicide and he was a born-again Christian. I do believe that he has been forgiven and that he's in Heaven. He loved God with all his life, and Christ was his Lord, but he made a poor decision to end it because of his mental state.

Mari,

Thank you for taking the time to clarify.. and it would be awesome if you could share a hot cup of that coffee with me this evening.

Your father is indeed with the Lord - all born-again believers are His.. the Lord's trees are evergreen.

God bless you.

I haven't read all of this thread and don't remember if I've posted in it previously, but here is my opinion on this sensitive subject:

A few years ago, I was in the midst of a suicidal depression made worse by prescribed medication. My doctor wouldn't listen to me when I told him that the medication was causing the suicidal thoughts. He just told me I wasn't using my coping skills. He kept increasing the medication, which increased the suicidal thoughts, until in desperation, I tried to commit suicide several times. I was not in my right mind at the time because of the depression and the influence of this particular medication.

After the last attempt, I rededicated my life to Christ and allowed Him to heal me from the inside out. I found another doctor, who gave me new medication, which I still take to this day. I still get suicidal thoughts from time to time, but I've learned to just let them slip out of my mind like eggs sliding out of a nonstick skillet.

I've been saved since I was seven years old and I believe that God wouldn't have sent me to hell if I'd been successful in committing suicide, because I know that Jesus died for all my sins long before I was born. The only problem I have now is forgiving myself for trying to kill myself, which is a topic for another thread.

I've also been saved from a very young age (5 years old) and have also had suicidal thoughts and a suicide attempt. I also believe you would have gone to heaven if you had gone through with the suicide but that does not mean it is ok to do. Our bodies are the temple of the holy spirit and we are to treat them that way with respect and not commit suicide.

I'll be praying for you that the Lord gives you victory over these suicidal thoughts that are from the devil because God's not done with you on this earth yet!

I'm not sure where my thoughts will fit in here, but i wanted to share my testimony on this issue.

I got saved at the age of 20 when I was considering suicide or in the least murdering others because of the pain and rage inside of me. Even after I was saved, I still wrestled with pain. Many times I had wanted to die and not live, I felt it would have been better. I had these feelings for a long time and was not able to express them in words till one night I was out for a walk with my wife and the presence of God came upon me and I just needed to share this with her. It surprised her because I hid it well. It needed to come out so I could receive healing. Not that Jesus didn't already heal me at the cross, I was not able to apropriate this work till I admitted it. Anyways, recently I was sharing this with a christian counselor who looked me striaght in the eye and said "I believe God the Father wept over you because of this. That one of His kids didn't want to live" This nearly knocked me out of my chair, and I began to cry.

The very meaning of life, the very essence of living is found in the Lord. It is all good, to believe it is not and not worth having is to believe a lie from the pit. God weeps over His kids who want to die rather than live for Him. His heart cries for them to know His amazing love for them and He stands ready to pour it out upon them. They need to look to and to hold onto Him. When we are down, we look to ourselves, we examine ourselves and forget to love others. I have wallowed in self pity, lamented my situations and spent my time looking at only my pain and suffering. Read Isaiah 58. I look past the issue of Fasting and focus on what God is saying. He is telling us that if we focus on loving others, meeting their needs, then our light will break forth from the darkness, our healing will quickly appear, our night will become like the noonday. As we pour out into the lives of others, God will pour into us all that we have need of and more

Suicide is about me, love is about others.

Kill Me Now is one of the articles posted here on crosswalk. it's about even the prophets despairing and wanting God to take them home. But Jesus, when faced with the cross asked that this cup be taken form him. so God is for life.

as far as suicide being an unforgivable sin, the bible does say the only sin is the sin of blasphemy against the holy Spirit. what is the definition of blasphemy, denying him? cursing him, i am a little unclear on that. perhaps I need to look it up in Websters Dictionary. okay, I looked it up on Websters Dictionary and it said to show irreverence.

Alright. I have tried committing suicide. I took a bunch of pills and my parents found me lying on the floor. It was just me not trusting people, so I kept everything inside. Until one day, I just gave up. When I was in the pshyc (sp?) ward, I felt God's love overwhelm me. I knew he was there with me.

God love for you never changes.
But this is what I think about suicide. If you are a STRONG Christian and you believe that Jesus died on the cross to save your sins. And you commit suicide, I don't think you'll be going to hell. You know the well-known scripture that says Jesus will never leave you, nor forsake you (Jeremiah 29:11). Why would Jesus forsake you the last minute?

But here's another thing, you cannot murder anyone. And I believe that you killing yourself will be committing murder.

So, I really don't know what will happen if someone will commit suicide.
But I'm pretty sure you won't go to hell because of it (only if you have Jesus in your life that is).

But I looked it up on the Internet and it doesn't say anything about suicide. It does, however, talk about people wishing they were dead. I know that King David wished many times that he wanted to die and actually yelled out to God to take his life away. But thats about it.

For a lot of professing Christians, where one stands on his beliefs regarding the belief of "eternal security" usually determines his beliefs on what happens to a professing Christian that commits suicide. What I have found is that on most threads dealing with what happens to a professing Christian who commits suicide is that the answers come mainly from an "eternal security" belief perspective (otherwise known as "once saved always saved - OSAS). For those that believe that the Bible teaches it is possible for a person who is a Christian to return to a lost state, the answer will be different. I posted on this earlier in this thread in case you want to read what I said about it. When I comment on this, I try to be careful in my wording, as sometimes someone will try to take the thread off-topic by debating OSAS. This makes questions such as this about suicide very difficult to discuss without running the danger of getting into a debate about OSAS. If you notice, people usually state matter-of-factly what they believe happens to a professing Christian that commits suicide. Comments are usually made such as - the person will go to heaven since when the person became a Christian, all the person's sins were forgiven for all time. A comment like this would most likely come from someone who did believe in OSAS. However, a person that believed in CS (conditional security) could make a comment such as this - what happens to a professing Christian that commits suicide will depend on whether or not the person was still in Christ (saved) when he committed suicide - or - if the person knew what he was doing (state of mind), then he would not go to heaven since he would not be able to ask forgiveness for self-murder (assuming the death was immediate). I gave two examples since among those that believe in CS, there are different beliefs regarding how one can return to a lost state. You can see how this could lead to a debate on OSAS versus CS. This is why when I comment on threads such as this about suicide, I will point out how the answer will most of the time hinge greatly on what you believe about salvation, and then I will give examples of different beliefs about what would happen after suicide based on different beliefs about salvation without stating that one of the beliefs is the correct belief.

hello slew.
sure suicide's forgiven. there's no sin God doesn't forgive. what happens if a "true" believer dies while sinning? they're justified. it's not what we do or don't do that saves us, it's who we say Jesus is. if we accept Him as our lord and personal Savior we're justified. just if i'd never sinned. what happens to believers in sin at the moment of the 2nd comming? hell or heaven? heaven! we, like paul, have things that we don't want to do but do. that's it. later.

This is not altogether true. There is one particular sin that Jesus declares is "unforgiveable," and that is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. Don't know if anyone already pointed that out, since I didn't take the time to read through all the posts.

In any case, I can't really say if suicide is forgiven or not. I'm of the opinion that any sin that goes unconfessed and/or unrepented is a blight against our souls; what God does about that in the afterlife is.. well, a bit unclear to me at present. I could go on about certain scriptures that state the salvation of our spirit according to our confession of Jesus in our lives, but I have to get going pretty soon here.

My two pennies~

Well, I am sad to say that while I was at work last week, one of my residents at the apt complex committed suicide. I do not think he was saved, I don't know but I think that if you are not saved so if you commit suicide, I believe you will go to hell..I don't know but I am kinda torn about this...I just feel if you were not saved and didn't have God in your life you will not go to heaven if you kill yourself...I do believe that if someone is saved and just that distraught, and in a terrible mental state, and they commit suicide, I think they would go to heaven...I think because satan has basically taken over and that is what he is trying to do, is, steal, kill, destroy.

I don't know I am really torn about this...It is not our decision to make when we die, only God can decide that, we do not have a right to take our own lives when God created us. I also don't know because if god knows everything, why would he know that when someone is born and when they turn 20 they will commit suicide, why wouldn't he stop that so that this person doesn't burn in hell... It is a confusing to me now....

Someone who is not saved, I think will may go to hell.
Someone who is saved and in mental turmoil or who has mental problems, I think may go to heaven.
The man I knew that committed suicide, did it over money...He had filed ch7 and was just having financial troubles....I would say that that is not mental turmoil....
I don't know guys....I don't see God being to understanding to someone taking their own life when it is not their decision to make.....
