I don't mind being found. I never answer the door anyway. People I know always call before they come over.

Seems to be a lot of midwesterners here!

And Shema, it's great to finally "see" you.

LOL! It's great to "see" you, too. I surprised myself by uploading a pic.

I agree that we should be careful not to make it too easy to be found. Sometimes we get carried away. I figure if someone I know comes on here, there's enough information for them to figure out it's me. I'm ok with that. But if for some strange reason someone wanted to stalk me, I don't want to make it easy. It's especially important to remember that we can give references to our location if we want, but should be careful not to actually type out the name of our city (such as Atlanta). If someone were to do an internet search on my screen name and Atlanta, or just Atlanta, this page would come up.

Google hasn't been able to find me and my last two moves, lol.

I think I was placed in the middle of a field. Not sure, I'm no map reader. But they way I look at it, if someone really wants to find me, they could.

Well, you could always put yourself NEAR to where you are - just not in your exact location.

For me, I've got SUCH a common name (there are 7 of us in my county alone), it's really not a big deal. And, I just put my city, not my zip code. It's showing me at least 6 miles from my location.

I can't zoom into an area without it switching to another member. Strange.

Am I in the largest city? Mike may be, if he lives in his city proper.

Steve - I think it may be because you both just put down your city name - so it's getting confused.....not sure though - I couldn't even see you at all yesterday when I zoomed it - it was just the other person. But, your pic was there, so I knew you hadn't been deleted.

That's true. If someone is determined enough, they can find any of us. Theoretically, they only have to find the people who know people who know people who know us, and they can locate us through social engineering.

There's little security in obscurity. Just ask Microsoft Windows(tm) users.

Don't you mean Mac users? We're the obscure ones.

(There's just no security of any kind with Windows. )

If your username is unique to these forums, you're probably safe. Same if your first name is a common one.

I don't want to go into too much detail, but if anything you put on here (including your username) is on some other page on the Internet, that other page can probably be found, along with whatever other info is on it. (It can take as little as two items in common to come up with other pages associated with you.)

If your curiosity still isn't satisfied, PM me. (We don't want to educate any would-be stalkers who might be lurking. )

Thanks Robb.

As Mike in Boston I do live in the greater Atlanta...and we are 5 million in here.

My location here in US indicate Iam almost in the middle of highway...LOL and in Brasil in a very industrial area.. Oh no..I place myself at the beach there...

Ouch! my little foot!

Good morning dear earth and all neighboors and its inhabitants !!!

No. Macs are just shy of being open source. You're inscrutable, not obscure. ;)
Well, I'll agree with that, but Microsoft often claims greater security through the obscurity of their closed-source code.

Aw, Beaker only looks like that 'cause he gets blown up every five minutes by Dr. Honeydew.

-Robb

I love Beaker! Had a friend in college nicknamed "Chef"... he could do a mean Muppet's Swedish Chef impression. Do ya think we might be the last generations to know The Muppet Show?! It's really TOO BAD! Awesome show! Still love to watch it! O.k. off topic! ...um... nice map! : Ha!

Have no fear, Christina, the Muppets will live on forever! I am 26 years old and can still remember watching reruns of the show growing up.

I have the episode from the Muppet Show that featured Mark Hamill, Chewbacca, C3PO and R2D2 on VHS.

I loooved the Muppets Take Manhattan movie. Beaker (I don't care how harmless you say he is Robb), the big furry guy with big lips, and Animal used to scare me to death as a kid.

RERUNS!!!! Now I feel old! Boy, my back hurts today! Hahaha!

Oh, wasn't the weekly show terrific?! The Muppet movies... not so good (at least in my opinion)! ... sorry Tink! The movies were just so different from the show... liked the sudo-live-audience!

Oh, I remember Animal. He was one of my favorites. There was a drummer, I'm having a senior moment and forgetting where I heard this, who learned to play the drums by watching him. And he was good!!!

Yeah, the students are real good at making me feel old when I throw out some reference and they just give me a blank stare back. AUGH! (Hasn't happened with the Muppet Show yet though.)

Worse still is when you mention something and they only know it through some crummy remake. Horrible!

I would love to see that episode!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Remind me and if I can find it I'll bring it to the GT. My friend actually gave it to me because of what a Star Wars nut I am.

Robb, your geek card can't be taken away unless you can't count pi to the 50th digit. Only then will you lose it.
