we dont use a ladder, but a rainbow instead.......basically a simplified version of what Lisa posted as hers. We like it...keeps the kids in line better then anything else!!!!

Can you explain how it works again? The simpler rainbow system would probably work better for us since our kids are similar ages....

in our system, the point is to stay as high in the colors as you can. You are allowed to do anything in the color you are on or below that color.
our rainbow is divided like this....
Play Outside
Swim
Do Gardening

Watch TV or Video
Computer Games
Video games

Draw
Color
Play games

Read a Book
Play with toys in room

Do Chores
Schoolwork
Clean
Spend time thinking

we drop them one at a time (except in extreme cases, like when our oldest played with matches...he dropped all the way down). They then have to either stay there til saturday when we reset it, or they can work their way back up again (with housework above and beyond their chores). We also have some individual expectations we have for each of them...to help us keep them each on track with what they personally need.
HERE is a picture of our chart
HERE is a picture of the craft sticks with their pictures in it that we stick in the chart on whichever color they are on.
