I can't remember if you've posted it here or not, but what does your marathon prep/tapering look like? When do you start to taper? Etc...

I peaked my miles three weeks ago with a long of 20miles. The next week it was 13miles. This past weekend only 8miles. This week, my runs will only be 2miles, with the race on Sunday. I know this is what I need to do, but I feel like I need to be out there doing something!

I special order a running...........ummmmmm..........undergarment, and I just got confirmation that it's out of stock and would be several weeks before I can get one. This throws a huge glitch in my plans!!! I'll see if I can track down another one somewhere. I can't run without it.

I hope you can find whatever it is you need.

I had an awesome run tonight in our chilly weather. I had to break out the tights for this one and it was fabulous! Four miles at 12:00 straight up. Slower than I'd hoped for, but that distance is getting faster every time, so that's good. It's supposed to be even colder tomorrow, so I'm glad about that.

I'm watching the Dallas Cowboy cheerleader tryout show and thinking I'm so glad I'm not doing that.

Now I'm watching a train wreck of a different sort...My Big Redneck Wedding is on. And the groom only wears his teeth for special occasions.

3k is...1.864 miles. That's a nice distance, especially since your husband was complaining before that 3.1 miles is absurd.

The amazing part is that it was HIS idea! But I think it's a good one-- this way, he'll have one race day experience under his belt and if he can do 3k... what's 2 more k? heh

Yeah, methinks he doth protest too much.

You'll all be glad I stopped watching My Big Redneck Wedding...right after I discovered the bride and groom were sister and brother.

I figure I run a 3K, it helps lessen the blow from the 5K and will minimize my time in the Amarillo hospital.

I am in the middle of the taper crazies!!! No workout today. I am so chomping at the bit. No relief in site either. Wednesday is an easy 2m, Thursday possible swim, Friday rest, and Saturday an easy 1.5m. It's about enough to drive one crazy!!!

They just remodeled one and it's quite nice.

HC--I think you need to nap. Take advantage of your body repairing itself to lay around and relax. The tapering is important, too!

During marathon training, runners will do a long run each week, adding miles each time--usually up to 20 miles or so. But then in the two or three weeks before the race, they will "taper"...which means they are decreasing their mileage in order to give their bodies plenty of time to recover before putting themselves through the 26.2 miles of a marathon.

stellaluna--very well put! Yup. That's exactly where I am. I ran an easy 2m this morning. That was barely enough to get me warmed up. I know it's what I am supposed to be doing but my body is wanting more!

I ran 2.5 miles last night (I couldn't get myself out of bed yesterday morning again... ) and today is my day off. I decided that tomorrow I will run 1.5 miles and throw a sprint in there, Friday I will run an easy mile then Saturday I head off for the testing.

I've decided...because my left arch is sore...that I'm going to cut my 4-mile run today to a 3-mile. And I'm going to run the first part of it with my husband as part of his Couch to 5K.

Has anyone done any hill training program? I want to do the Pikes Peak marathon next year. It's 13 miles one way, with a 6500 ft gain in elevation, then, back down. The other challenge is the altitude because the peak is at 14100 ft. I've hiked it, but didn't ran...mostly fast walk.

I live in the prairies where the highest elevation is the old garbage dump, lol. Lately, I've been setting the treadmill on an incline of 5 to 6. I'm not sure what that translate to. I'll probably check all the running forums but I'm wondering if anyone here has every tried hill training. I do it very slow to prevent injury. Any pointers?

I'm doing my first hill workout next week...I'm also on the prairie, so it was hard enough finding that. Pike's Peak sounds hard, considering the last time I ran up a hill. I'm sure you can do it!

So, do you have a hilll to train on or is it mainly treadmill work? Here, it's really prairie; no elevation gain or loss wherever you go, lol. It's like flat as a pancake! There's areas that are not so flat, but it's about 2 hours drive. I so wish I lived where there's mountains or hills to run or bike. I love mountains.

let me know how your hill training goes. Any specific program? I should check on all my old issues of Runners world, but I'm just too lazy.

We are flat as a pancake as well, but there is a draw that goes through the far northwest corner of town. That's where I ran a race that was pretty much uphill...maybe a 10% grade over about a mile? (That's a guess.) It was the first time I had ever run uphill and it totally sucked.

I'm in the third week of a 10k training program I got from Cool Running. It calls for 4-5 hills at 5k pace and I got some advice on Runner's World to look for something between 5-8% since I never run hills and they're hard to come by. Well, in the neighborhood next to mine is a slight grade that I'm guessing is close to 5%. It only rises for about three blocks, but that's what I'm going to use for now. I'll have to drive, too, if I want to run on a real hill.
