Becasue I was doing an open water swim this afternoon, I got to sleep in this morning. Except, at 6:30 my eyes popped open. Oh well, I guess I did get an extra hour's sleep...

My swim was pretty difficult, but I got it done.

Tomorrow I'm back at the run. Looking forward to getting back at it after the race this past weekend. Ds1 and I will be racing a 5K on Saturday.

Ooooh! I'm jealous! It's "cooler" here to, but it's still in the mid to upper 80s... I can't wait for Fall...

I did have an awesome run!!! It was barely sprinkling the first mile, but then it really started coming down! I was soaked and it WASN'T HOT!!! WOOHOO! I ran two miles in 22:00, which is a record for me. Never even stopped. I did, however, have to pour the water out of my shoes before I came in the house. I ran right through the puddles!

Ohhh!!!! I love those runs!!! When I run in the rain, I always leave a towel on the porch so I don't drip water all through the house.

What did I ever do to you??

Now I'm surely going to have to run a 5K this year. I've been trying to obfuscate and block all the running sites on our home connection, then you go ahead and link them for her?? Why do you hate me?

Pffftt. Please. My DH is such a drama king-- running a turkey trot this Thanksgiving was *his* idea. I'm merely being a submissive, supportive wife and holding him to it.

(Don't tell him, but I do have my doubts about whether he'll actually complete a 5k this year. He couldn't even make it through our pre-run stretches tonight-- LOOK! )

In case anyone is wondering, that lizard is a collared lizard. The guy that runs our natural history museum says it's a male and he is quite "common." ha ha Little cutie!

It appears we are getting remnants of Hurricane Dolly. It rained all night and I'm glad I ran when I did, otherwise I would have had to contend with lightning and deafening thunder. It actually woke me up about 3:00 and I am definitely dragging today.

Ugh! I'm dragging, but at least I got a decent night's sleep. I felt awful this morning though. Between the remnants of whatever I ate at lunch yesterday that didn't agree with me and horrid allergies, it took everything I had to crawl out of bed this morning and run. I did though - 2 miles and a pretty decent pace. Of course, as soon as my run was over, I walked back to my house, did my cool down stretches and laid on the floor for about 10 minutes hoping I wasn't going to throw up.

Fortunately, I feel immensely better now...

I thought perhaps it would act to expose the sort of drill-sergeant mentality prevalent in our household. As you can plainly see, I'd collapsed from exhaustion while high-stepping down the stairs. Can you imagine what this 5K will do to me? Luckily, her wonderful, homemade enchiladas revived me in time for a rigorous night of TV.

We aren't sympathetic.

If you will take a few minutes to read through the thread, you will see that we all push ourselves to run in all sorts of inclement weather, during illness, despite other commitments.

We expect the same from you.

And you know what they say: the faster you run, the faster it's over.

Did everyone poop out this week? My run was less than...triumphant...following my frolic in the rain Monday. Out of boredom, I set myself a new route to run this evening and while the going was fine, the coming back was yuck. Imagine a 10-degree incline for nearly a mile--what was I thinking? It made my knees hurt. I managed to finish nearly three miles at a decent pace, though. And I'm excited because they put a new water fountain in the park by my house and it's right by the sidewalk and convenient to runners. It's the little things...

I pooped out this morning... I was so exhausted I just couldn't get out of bed until it was too late for a run. Which stinks because it was cooler today and would have been the perfect weather for a run...

I had a bit of a scare on Tuesday evening. My training schedule called for a 15 minute run, but I decided to do my speed work (5 x 440 at 2:52-2:55 pace) instead, since my friend/mentor was going to be doing his speed work then. I had walked 1 lap before he arrived, then another one with him. We stretched out mildly, then began our run. About 2/3 of the way through, my neck started pounding - just like I was getting one of my really bad tension headaches! I finished the lap, then walked another one to see if it would calm down, but it didn't. I immediately decided to call it quits, although I stayed around to time my friend on a couple of his 880 runs. While timing John, I put ice on the back of my neck and my forehead and the throbbing eased. That was the weirdest thing that has happened to me since I began running last year. I've been out in the heat and humidity before, but nothing like this had ever occured. And I certainly hope that it's the last time.

Tonight, provided there's no a thunderstorm in the area, I'll do my 15 minute run.

Duane

I've had the same thing happen from heat, Duane. And the top whole top of my head throbbed. I did the same as you--put a cold pack on it. It's happened at least twice this summer and you're right...it's fuh-reaky!

Duane--careful out there!

Kristen--cute dog! Can't tell by the size, but is taht a cocker mix or a neuf mix? Or did I totally miss?

I'm still working out. Did a swim/bike yesterday. Today was a bike/run. I'm having a blast!

Had a bit of a scare with ds1 yesterday. He's the one who races with me. He had been lounging on the couch watching TV. We called him to dinner. When he got to the kitchen he fainted and fell into the counter where luckily I caught him. He never went totally out and recovered quickly. But it did give us a scare! I'm assuming it was because his HR/BP are low and he just got up too quickly.

Ds1 and I will be racing a 5K on Saturday.

Actually she's a purebred cocker who needed a haircut really bad when I took the picture!

I ran 3 miles this morning and it felt great. I probably could have actually gone further but I started my run late and knew I really needed to get in the shower and get ready for work or I'd be late!

Kristen--sorry! But I did see the cocker! But, uh, yah, she needs a haircut! My first dog was a cocker. We used to keep the show cut. Until the kids came along. Then, in the summer I'd shave her down except for her ears. She LOVED the water so it was easier to have her shaved! In the winter, I'd keep her face shaved and let the rest grow. She LOVED the snow so she needed a good coat.

I had an easy run this morning. One of my slowest in a very long time. 9:33 pace. Yikes! But, I was focusing in keeping my heart rate down. Although tomorrow's race is only for fun, I do want to go in with as much in the tank as possible. Son is gonna whip my butt, though...

Whenever I give her a haircut, it's like a brand new dog appears!

Anyway, I ran 2 miles this morning and it wasn't a great run either, but then it was windy and I hate running in the wind...
