I have learned that if I give David more than 3 oz at a time he will drink it and then spit a lot of it back up. That seems to fill him up without over filling his tummy.

Emily, when I first started Chase on formula, we were giving one bottle a day, in the evening. The next morning, he had a little trouble pooping, but just a lot of straining, he got it eventually. The same thing happened the next time, but then that was it, just those two days and he was fine.

Probably not. Gabby switched back and forth just fine, as have the supplemented babies I know.

Probably not. Gabby switched back and forth just fine, as have the supplemented babies I know.
I had one who wouldn't take formula at all. She'd take anything else from a bottle, but she hated formula.

Huh. Can't say as I blame her  Gabby won't drink the hypoallergenic formula, it is DISGUSTING. Makes regular formula look gourmet.

I think if babies are used to formula early on, they have an easier time transitioning later. I tried giving Jimmy formula at 8 months I think when he hadn't had it in a while, and he wouldn't take it. But, Timmy went back and forth from formula to the breast from 3ish months on. I think Nicole (Aus) had the same experience too.

I think she was about 2 months old or so. She just didn't like it. That was fine with me because we really couldn't afford it anyway.

Right.
I agree with Christina, that the earlier they are given formula, the easier time they have getting used to it. Both of mine had formula while still at the hospital (because of neo-natal jaundice) so were used to it right from the start.

This same dd had jaundice and many people were surprised that I wasn't instructed to give her formula. They did tell me to give her water though. I never had thought about it and just kept on nursing her and giving her water. She was an easy baby to nurse though. Looking back, I don't know if I'd have given her formula or not during that time.

What can I do to help Mary not throw up so much. I would say spit up, but what she does is more than just a little spit up. The amount she eats always varries. One feed it will be just 4 oz next will be 6. We usually make it with cool water. I'm usually hesitant to burp her because as soon as that belch comes out, the next thing to come is a good vomit or two. Any suggestions?

Sounds like she is taking in quite a lot of air when she is feeding. What kind of teats are you using? Do they come in different sizes (ie for different speed of 'flow')?

grrr just lost my post....
We have the first stage of a NUK and the number 2 of Avent. With the Avent she really guzzles down the formula. I don't like using that one as much. With the NUK she loses her latch a lot.

I would try the stage one Avent nipples, I might even have some if you want them. I returned most of my Avent bottles but still have some of the spare parts.

Have any of you tried this MAM bottle? I bought one today to try. They were only $13 for a 3 pack and $5 for one, so not too pricey. They are BPA free.

I have never tried them. It looks like way too many parts to clean. I have a hard enough time with just a simple bottle. I have a tendancy to dirty all my bottles before I clean them. It's hard to get in the habit of at least rinsing out the one I just used to keep it from getting funky.

and that is the exact reason I love the playtex nurser bottles!!!! throw away the bag...and the off chance it gets lost under the couch and you start growing a bio-hazard experiment you can toss the nipple too!!!!

They look good, EmilyAnn - I'd have bought them if they'd been around when my two were babies. Nice colours too!

hehehe...could it be like losing one in a TX summer heat? LOL. Yeah seriously though, this was my main reason for going with the playtex bottles when we need to use bottles...lol.

They are cute colors, that's part of the reason we *love* our Nuby's. Actually, we are getting ready to put all our Playtex Nurser's aside and save them. I'm tired of the $5 a month for bottle liners when 3 of the Nuby bottles are only $7.95.
