ORIGINAL: robertyork Are any of you singing in showcases at NQC this year? If so, when, where and what showcase will you be performing in? I just found out that the Promoters Showcase will be Thursday at the Executive Inn. Not Executive Inn West where it us usually held. Donna Basically from the artist that will be performing there. They usually have flyers that they pass out at their booths. Executive Inn West is under a remodling program and a lot of the rooms there will not be available this year. I suppose like the Promoters Showcase some of them will move to Executive Inn. I can't find out anything about the Diamond Awards they are usually on Friday at Executive Inn West

Several months before NQC fans nominate and then later vote for their favorites in several categories. The night of the awards, all of the top nominees are seated around the stage. Selected presenters then read off the names in each category and The winner is......and they go up and accept their award. Of course there are some funny moments and some serious moments. Janis

One thing I really like about the awards night, besides seeing your favorite artists receive awards, is getting to hear the Top 10 songs performed. Nice event!

ORIGINAL: robertyork I understand that they are remodeling Executive West. A lot of the meeting rooms are under remodeling construction now and won't be ready for NQC to use. I know the promoters showcase has moved to Executive Inn East and the date had to be changed to Thursday when they moved. Not sure what other showcases has had to move. After they complete the remodeling of Executive West the other Executive Inn will be destroyed and they will be building a hotel next to the South Wing of the Convention Center. It's supposed to be a five star hote. That's a shame about the original Exec being demolished. Of course, there are sections of the original Exec that look like a dungeon, but there's a classy historic quality to both of those hotels. I've always enjoyed eating at the original Exec, while I prefer staying at Exec West. (In recent years, I've opted for cheaper, less classy rooms on the north side of Louisville.) When I've stayed at Exec West, the dressers in the rooms I've used have been the same design as the ones that have been in my parents' bedroom for as long as I can remember. I always thought that was neat.

With NQC less than 3 weeks away, I am beginning to get excited. I have just finalized all of my arrangements with hotel and bus pass. I will be using the shuttle to the east end of town for the first time this year. I hope it works out good since gas is higher. I got a better deal on a very good hotel in the east end and then purchased the shuttle pass. I can't wait to see the new exhibit area this year. Michelle

As my sister pointed out, we will be at the Executive West Hotel for the third year in a row. I originally booked us at the Sleep Inn at Gate 6 back in like April or May. Highly recommend it, very nice hotel - I got it for a good price, too. This is the one time of year I will pay more for a hotel. I got the Sleep for $107.99/night, which isn't bad for a hotel practically on the property! The only reason I booked there was because the Exec West has been telling me since October that they were "Booked". I asked them once, "Booked, or blocked?"... that wasn't met with a very pleasant response, but I couldn't resist. HINT: Blocks are lifted 30 days prior to the event. I called on August 8th, and got a room, not only a room, but the same room I had booked at the Sleep Inn, and much less expensive. I learned from my good friend Ms Judy to BE PATIENT!!! lol There will always be rooms closer to event, and usually much less expensive! After seeing on here that the Exec West is under construction, I called the hotel. I was told that yes, the hotel is indeed under construction. I told the lady I had some questions. They were very nice about my questions. I asked how this would affect the hotel's guests. I was told that the hotel would be (of course) a little noisier during the daytime hours, and the pool and exercise room would be closed. She also informed me that any guests of the Exec West that find themselves wanting use of an exercise room or swimming pool would be able to use those ammenities at the Executive Inn next door. I figure, in all my years traveling, I have been met by much worse things that daytime construction, and decided that my love for the Exec West, the price, and overall experience are well worth enduring some "Construction Mess"!!! I am SOOOO excited -- CAN'T WAIT

I learned from my good friend Ms Judy to BE PATIENT!!! lol There will always be rooms closer to event, and usually much less expensive! When booking a hotel in advance, I always make sure it's a reservation I can cancel with no penalties. In years past, I've booked a hotel 11 or 10 months in advance. This year, I didn't even bother to start checking until a couple of weeks ago. Judy is correct. The price ALWAYS drops. Of course, I usually stay somewhere other than the Execs. I love those old hotels, but the noise of the jets keeps me awake if I'm near a top floor. I've found a nice quiet hotel away from the hustle and bustle that is relatively inexpensive...I've never paid more than $60 per night there...though I may have to this year. I'm staying Tue-Thur nights rather than my typical Mon-Wed. When I checked two weeks ago, the hotel I typically use had rooms that were very affordable the first two nights, but then the price nearly doubled for Thursday night. I checked last night, and the price on the first two nights had gone up a couple of dollars each, but the price on Thursday had dropped by $29. I went ahead and made the reservation, BUT I will be checking again...up until a few days before. If I find it's cheaper, I will make another reservation first...get it confirmed...then and only then, I'll cancel the one I made last night. This seems to be the best method for getting the best price. Most people never check again after they make the initial reservation. That's what they're banking on when they offer a higher rate several months before. Once the hotel realizes they aren't going to sell out, the price drops.
