Oh the joys! I get to have a pap on Monday. I am not looking forward to it, but at the same time I am. My last TOM was really bad. I have to write down the questions that I have for her so that I remember to ask them. Now I just have to remember what the questions are that I have for her.

Oh I know how that can be a problem!

Just don't forget your list

I still haven't made an appointment for my yearly exam, it was due in Feb. Usually they make it for the next year as one is walking out but they were busy so I didn't wait, and now I'm so overdue.

Well, when I was talking to my other dr. today, he asked how long it had been since I'd had an exam. I thought I'd missed a year, but when I figured it out, it's been almost five years! Not a good thing. Especially bad for a woman who has already had two bouts with cervical cancer. That was really dumb to go that long! But the good news is that they were able to get me in so quickly! That is almost unheard of, calling on a Friday and getting an appt. for the following Monday.

I didn't realize you had problems like that. I'm sorry to hear it. I'm glad they were able to get you in right away too.

Yup- the first time was when I was going in for a routine exam when I was 30 and the second time I was going in because I'd had a miscarriage and I was 38. I went in every year until the one when I was 38. For some reason, once I got treated, I never remembered to schedule myself another exam. I was blessed that each time it was caught very early!

Well, my appt. is coming up on the 25th. I haven't seen an ob/gyn since I was in the hospital having my last baby and she is 2. I didn't even go in for my 6 week c/u. I *really dislike* going to the Dr. and the hassle of taking little kids with me just put me over the edge!

Since we are in a new town, I will be meeting this Dr. for the 1st time. I need all the regular stuff plus a mammo, and I need to discuss all of my yucky possibly perimen symptoms....is there anything else I should talk about?

YES! your mood and depression issues that you told us about before and that amino-acid stuff you're taking that you bought after seeing it advertised.

I stopped taking the Sam-e after you all wisely recommended talking to Dr. 1st! And I must admit...I feel worse without it.

Just talk to your doctor about it all, and tell him/her about the pills too. It surely has to be worth finding out what may really be causing your symptoms, and getting proper help for them, rather than taking something which may make you feel better now, but may not be getting to the root cause of the problem.

OK ladies, my dr. wants me to choose between Mirena or ablation.

I have some strong convictions against Mirena, but I wouldn't be using it for birth control, which is where my convictions are. Even though I wouldn't be using it to cause an abortion, I'm not sure that I want to give money to them to help other women cause an abortion. KWIM? Maybe I should start/join a thread on it?

I know nothing about Mirena. I'm assuming it is some sort of birthcontrol? I'm going to google it. Anyway, I would go to a thread if you start one.

I will be making those decisions here shortly...

Mirena is an IUD that also releases estrogen into the woman's body.

I've really benefitted from reading this thread. I am in the middle of perimenopause myself, the whole gamut of symptoms except for the libido bit (I think I skipped over having a libido). I have an app't. with my doctor on 7/31 and kinda-sorta want to show him the tracker from my menstrual cycle I've compiled over the last year (for 5 of those months I had a menstrual cycle) and discuss my plumbing with him. Well, I guess my point is -- Mother & I were talking last night about HRT and thinking Dr. H. might bring up putting me on it, to which I replied I've decided it's out of the question. He will probably refer me to a gyno, I'm sure.

Have any of you taken -- currently taking -- decided HRT is not for you, and may I ask why? I am interested in hearing your opinion(s), experiences, etc. In a fit of not wanting to go on any more pills (I take medication for high blood pressure), I told Mother "I might be a big fat cow, but I'm not a pregnant horse!" -- I guess I said that just for effect.

Thanks for listening, and thanks for letting me vent.

Julie

Hi Julie and welcome!

I have decided against HRT - one of the reasons why I'm not sure about Mirena - because of the health risks involved.

When I developed interstitial cystitis, I explored the holistic realm of treatment. I was greatly encouraged to hear about natural progesterone & how effective it is during peri & through menopause. It has been quite helpful & I don't have to fear the health risks like I would w/ anything synthetic. kd

I understand your feelings about giving money to a company that helps other women cause an abortion. However are we always so conscious about the things we buy? So much of our food, clothing, jewellery etc comes from countries who have young children making them and we have no concern for them.

You need to speak with your doctor and do research about the side effects of both the mirena and ablation. For instance, your personal circumstances right now may be that you don't need the mirena for birth control, but who's to say what will happen in the next 12 months? What happens if those circumstances change and you want to have a child? Having an ablation must be deemed as a sterilisation procedure as well as an ablation due to the difficulty/risk of pregnancy.

For many, many years, I've tended to get a few pimples before my period, every month. Now, for some unknown reason, I get them after my period. Has any one else experienced this?
Maybe I'm the only one who still gets pimples at this age, I don't know.

I get pimples too. In fact, I figure some day I'll have pimples and wrinkles together. I haven't noticed a change in when they show up though.
